Re: OOC Chatter I
I really want that in my next expedition group: a cart with a keg on it.
If we get attacked, we could just offer the attackers beer.

Re: OOC Chatter I
Definitely worth a disposition bonus.

My next character is bond to be a lush then.

Re: OOC Chatter I
Can't seem to open the LL rulebook, just checking the rate of fire per round for bows?
Not sure if LL is 2 per round like in D&D?

Re: OOC Chatter I
Bows get just one shot per round in LL (as in Basic D&D). Crossbows can fire every other round.

Re: OOC Chatter I
Kinda sorta kicking myself for choosing to play a character who doesn't talk.
I modelled him after a character in a favourite book series, thinking it would be fun playing with hand gestures and stuff.
It's harder than I expected. Beyond just trying to tell folks "Hey, I'm off for a pee," he's certainly not planning on holding any metaphysical debates any time soon, let alone contribute to planning in any major way.
What I might do is just start to shorthand it a little for more complex interactions. I dunno.
I'm open to suggestions if anyone has an idea. I really like the idea of him. The practicality of it, not so much.

You could always decide that he had a temporary case of laryngitis.

Re: OOC Chatter I
He is an interesting character to read, bu i can see how playing him would be difficult. Possible ideas:
He could just have a bunch of vellum and a charcoal stick and have him write out lengthier thoughts, though that would rely on other PCs having the ability to read and write.
He could hire a retainer than knows sign language.
Or keep him as he is and have him get frustrated at times, leading to seemingly impulsive actions as he loses patience with the others. That could lead to a bit of fun for you - pushing the group forward into situations they might not be eager for.

I am enjoying it.
Another route is to post summations in spoiler tags identified as Alignment Language. (Clarified here, doesn't need speech.)

Re: OOC Chatter I
Is it bad form to throw out ideas to another expedition? If so, I will keep my trap shut, but if not... Well. I will wait for an answer.
Re: OOC Chatter I
Table talk among players is a thing, but sharing of plot points and ideas is more iffy. The expeditions are public so we can all, as players, enjoy our unfolding communal story, but use judgment when it could sway IC action.

Re: OOC Chatter I
That was my assumption, but I wanted to make sure I was right. Thanks. So... I just shout at the computer screen like I do with Jeopardy contestants, then?
It is really fun watching the other adventure unfold, by the way.

Nick Cravat made a name playing a deaf stooge opposite Burt Lancaster in several pirate swashbuckling movies despite him hving a broad New Yirk accent. Maybe Mr Silent can communicate through whistles, common sign language and a gift for charades...it's a book, three words, sounds like....
Spells, you hve remove blindness, seek a cleric who can cast remove mute, or get you permanent ESP. ...that would be wicked, he can't talk but he knows what you're thinking!

Re: OOC Chatter I
Hey Rules Lawyers...
Has anyone seen a rule in Lab Lord about changing weapons?
I don't see one. If it becomes a house-rule question, my thought is:
Changing Weapons in Combat: You can change weapons during a round and still act within that round. Your action, however, moves to the end of the initiative, going last.
Thoughts?

Re: OOC Chatter I
Given OD&D's philosophy that fewer rules is better, I've always assumed that you can switch weapons freely. You can only attack with one weapon at a time anyway, so there's no reason IMO to restrict how long it takes to change weapons.
Also, making the weapon swap take time is a rule that hurts PCs more than their enemies, even if applied to both, because most PC enemies are either monsters without weapons or tend to use one weapon all the time anyway.

Also a good point.
