Finally you are able to get the thin metal plate you had been using wedged into the door at the right angle to lift the latch. The door swings open and reveals a spacious kitchen. The smell of old smoke, spices, herbs and other foods fills your nostrils. A long table with cutlery, pots, pans and other accouterments lines one wall while a large firepit takes up the center of the room. To the left, there is a set of narrow servants stairs going up, a door covered by a curtain leading further into the main level, and a trap door set in the ground, likely leading to a root cellar.

***Mukuli, Thief, Y'Mataar, Inside Templar House ***

Sneaking into the house, Mukuli heads toward the stairs that lead upward. He listens for noises coming from up the stairs and from behind the curtain.

"I say our best bet is to take a look up these stairs." Pointing up the flight of narrow wooden steps he waits to see what the others want to do.

Yes, treasures are not usually kept on the ground floor. Up then we go good friends.

Arngrim will follow last, acting as a rearguard.

Ptah will scramble though the window as quietly as he can. He'll let the stealthier of the group procede up the stairs first.

Sargon quickly scans the room and then whispers, "Those stairs more than likely lead to the servant's quarters. I'm not sure there'd be much treasure to be found there and the map would definitely not be kept there. Let's check the rest of the house."

Sargon will then take a peek behind the curtain.

OOC: Is the door open or closed or is the curtain the door?

******Mukuli, Thief, Y'Mataar, Inside Templar House ***

Hearing what Sargon has said does not prevent Mukuli from sneaking up the stairs. He thinks to himself that if there are servants here than they also need to be taken care of before exploring the rest of the house. Nothing like having some upset servants sneaking up on the party when least expecting it.
Using my sneak skill, that I rolled a little while ago, he continues up the stairs.

Mukuli: It would appear that indeed the stairs do lead to a the servants quarters. At the top of the stairs there is a short hallway with 3 open doors leading off from it, as well as a closed wooden door at the far end. Please roll for surprise. (just 1d6, surprised on a roll of 1 or 2)

Sargon: Sargon, as you pull back on the curtain it appears to lead into the back wall of the homes great room. You see two other larger windows with glass in the frames to the left, overlooking the garden, while on the right is an arched doorway leading into what appears to be a sitting room. Towards the back of the great room to the right of the kitchen entrance is a larger staircase going up. The room is tastefully furnished with a long wooden table able to seat about a dozen, a beautifully woven rug on the floor under the table, and tapestries on the walls beside the sitting room entrance. Of note if you are of a larcenous mindset there is also a sidetable with a silver pitcher and crystal glasses on it as well as several drawers that likely contain cutlery.

Not quite, a roll of 1 or 2 means you are surprised. Your stealth roll means you surprise them on a 1-3.

Maid's surprise roll: [1d6] = 6
As you reach the top of the stairs you are startled to almost run into a woman dressed in servants cloths coming out of one of the rooms. She has a bundle of sewing in her arms, and upon seeing you here eyes widen for a moment before she lets out a blood curdling shriek, and hurls her sewing into your face before running towards the door at the end of the hall.

Running over to the lady, Mukuli, strikes her on the head with the handle of his dagger. "I mean you no harm but now you need to shut the hell up!"
Roll to hit= [1d20] = 20
Damage= [1d6+1] = 6+1 = 7
Crit Table II, Crit Table roll= [1d10] = 3

He is trying to knock her out, not kill her.

Upon hearing the scream Ari-nasir fades to the side of the room and attempts to hide among the shadows.

Sargon rushes to the trapdoor and pulls it open (if he's able to) to see if if offers any hiding places. "Quick! Down here!" he whispers to the others. He will hold the door for anyone who is willing to follow him and then he will enter the cellar and close the door.

I'm not going to get trapped like a rat in that cellar Ptah-Kahtmak thought to himself as Sargon urged them towards the trap door. Instead he bolted up the stairs after Mukuli, pulling he dagger from his belt as he climbed the stairs. At least upstairs he might be able to climb out a window to escape if needed.

As you smash the pommel of your dagger into the side of the woman's head her scream cuts off abruptly and she collapses to the ground, blood trickling from a gash on the side of her head. You don't hear anything else from within the house though, it might appear that she is the only person at home.

Noticing Ptah-Kahtmak coming up the stairs, Mukuli goes over to the closed door, stands off to the side than opens it. Peeking within he sees...

A short hallway that opens up to a balcony overlooking the homes entrance. There is a staircase going down to the main floor, and a second door off on the far side of the balcony.

Ari-nasir, waits with the patience of a desert creature awaiting the fall of the sun, in the shadows ready to spring to the aid of his Aesir friend Arngrim.
