Rhul books it, gripping his crowbar in case he needs to turn around and fight

Etul isn't willing to abandon his partner, though at least as much for pragmatic reasons as moral ones. As he turns to run he tries to make a mental note of any features, so they can attempt to return and reclaim their equipment (assuming they make it out.)

I wouldn't mind turning back and fighting, but you're the one with a carbine and I've got a crowbar

Etul is usually up for a jog rather than a fight, but a night lying cramped and cold, nervously watching has not warmed him up well. He starts to flag and huffs to Rhul:
"I'm not sure how long I can keep this up. If they don't drop back in another hundred paces I start blasting."
I've always felt like electronic dice rollers hate me, but at this point the forum roller is just taunting me.

Blast away ... the roll is DS 10 per Tech thread.
Each success takes down one of the five Dead. You get two attempts before they're too close to shoot. Then the carbine is a +2 melee weapon, roll becomes +Brute(0)+2(carbine) v DS 8.

Rhul continues running, feinting a continued retreat, but will swing around to hit with his crowbar from behind as soon as the dead stop chasing him, or when Etul has fired his last shot, whichever happens first.
Brute Check: [2d6]=7
Skulking Check: [2d6+1]=8+1=9
brute for the actual hit with the crowbar, skulk is for the feint, if you think that needs a roll to see if it works in catching any of the undead off guard.

Etul feels his breath catching and decides that he doesn't have it in him to be chased an further. He spins, raising the carbine of the star kings and letting fly at the leading shambling dead.
Pew! Pew pew!

I think the Skulker success + the Brute fail = a wash for this first attempt.

The carbine chirps pointlessly. Etul squeezes the switch again, and one of the Restless Dead spasms and collapses as it's sheathed in a blue-white electrical glow. Then the other four are upon you! Three focus on Etul while the fourth, which Rhul tried to crowbar, attacks Rhul.
Here's what we're gonna do for this grouped combat, to represent multiple opponents helping each other and getting in each others' way. Etul will roll (2+1+1)d6+Brute+carbine = [_4d6+2] and uses the lowest two dice. This throws the odds out of his favor but does not have as bad a worst-case as making three separate 2d6 rolls. Rhul will roll normally.
Lay on!

As the three dead approach Etul flips the carbine to grip it, bat-like, by the barrel. He's pained to use it as a melee weapon, but better to crack skulls with the butt (he hopes).
I don't know what we're using for the DS for this combat, but it could have been worse.

Etul whirls the carbine around him, fending off the three assailants but making no real impact. DS 8

Rhul flails at the dead ineffectively.

Rhul should have had +1 for the crowbar, so total roll is 5 = take 3 Strain for total 13/18
One of the three Dead that had been harassing Etul shifts its attention to Rhul.
Each of you now rolls [_3d6]+mod, using the lower two dice, v DS 8

Etul attempts to take the legs out from one of the dead facing him, but whiffs his swing and leaves himself vulnerable to a strike in reply.

That's a "6" → take 2 Strain for total 5 / 18

take 3 Strain for total 13/18
This also should have been total 5 / 18 bc you left a bunch of stuff at the campsite

The Dead cut at Rhul with the shiny glass-like blades of their naginata. Their expressions are blank, eyes glowing faint blue. Their skin has an oddly smooth appearance.
Take 2 more Strain for total 7 / 18

Rhul tries to run away, flailing his arms and trying to keep their attention, hopeful this might give Etul another shot at the creatures to even the odds.
Skulking Check: [2d6+1]=5+1=6

Rhul ducks and dodges away from the two Dead attackers, taking a glancing blow to the shoulder as he does. Is it just a scratch, or more significant?
take 2 Strain; that's a total of 9/18
