Chapter 6: Snatching Ace. Section 1: Setting Up the Ambush

At about 10:45, fifteen minutes or so before El Cid arrives at Murphy's Lay, the team gets a message from Skye.

-Ace is with a mage, but he's a civilian. Don't touch him, you'll make Ace very angry if you do.-

"Gentle interference," Baby Blue clarifies.

Baby Blue's eyes narrow a little when she sees the message. "You want me to run interference on the wizard, Headstone?"

{Headstone}

''That would be most appreciated, chummer. Since we don't have a magician on our side during the most dangerous part of the run, we simply cannot take any chances.
If the wizard starts casting, we should follow usual protocol; Geek the mage first.
So if you can avoid this individual of getting into the brawl, we should definitely try to do so. The target getting angry is obviously not our main concern, his opinion is not that relevant. Still, if we can avoid it, we definitely should. Especially if the wizard isn't a runner.'' Headstone responds preferring no casualties during this run.

"Remember boss, that's probably Professor Carl Toltz, from the enchanting department at the University, Beamer mentioned him. Definitely don't want any problems there, him and Ace being besties."

''I do, so if BB can run interference. That would be best. Not looking for creating casualties here.
Also not looking to getting our brains fried because we underestimated a non-runner. Excluding dragons, Magicians are the most dangerous of all. Best to remember that. It's not all bad though, if we fail to take down the target now, he just gifted us a weakness to exploit. Just hoping it won't come down to that. But let me reiterate, we should avoid it if we can.''

{Baby Blue}

Baby Blue blinks as something occurs to her. "Slag, Headstone, we're about to abandon a drunk academic in the middle of a rough part of town in the middle of the night. An academic, it should be noted who is apparently close friends with a very dangerous man who knows a lot of very dangerous people. You might not care what Ace thinks of you, but unless we plan on geeking him too, I sure as hell do."

"We don't know if the Prof is going home with Ace, he might be making his own way, and he's a regular at Murphy's so it's not like he hasn't been around here before. Yes, we need a plan, but there's no need to panic."

{Headstone}

''Panicking? me?'' a very calm and collected Headstone responds slightly confused. ''Neither of you think it is wise to geek the mage when he starts casting a spell? Since that was what I was referring to? Thought that was common sense in the shadows, but I trust in your judgements. Null sweat, I will stay out of dealing with the wizard even if he becomes a danger. Not planning on causing a stir from my end.'' Headstone responds shrugging his shoulders and leaving the matter to the others.

{Baby Blue}

Baby Blue's eyes narrow as she ties her mask over her face. "Some of us have family in town Headstone, and if our actions lead even indirectly to Ace's best friend getting hurt or killed, ain't no guarantee Ace'll keep his retribution limited to just us."

{Revs}

"Disable them quickly, yes but geeking? No, that doesn't sit well with me. I thought we didn't do wetwork, surely that counts for collateral damage too? We have non-lethal options for Ace, we just apply them to the mage if we need to. Use the stun baton on him."

{Baby Blue}

"I very seriously doubt he'll pose any intentional threat in the fracas," says Baby Blue. "I don't know nothing about magic, but if it's anything like a gun, using it in his lab or whatever and using it in a fight are going to be two very different things. My plan was mostly to keep him at arms length so he doesn't get caught in any crossfire. Still don't like leaving his drunk hoop alone in the middle of the street, but fine."

"The prof doesn't drink, or at least not heavily. We'll, that's what we were told."

{Baby Blue}

Baby Blue relaxes as much as she ever does (which isn't much). "Ok. That's much better. Means folks will find out Ace's been kidnapped a lot faster than we'd like, but that's fine. We weren't gonna be dawdling anyway."

"There was always a chance we'd be spotted by one of Ace's street people and the word would go out."

{Bone Biter}BB and Revs

Bone narrows his eyes as he hears the words do not touch the Mage. A hint of anger is in his eyes as he looks at Revs and BB. "I understand, but if the Mage makes an offensive move at us, I will not make any promise as self-defense, and the group comes first. I will focus on Ace and do my part." Bone flexes his hands, causing his knuckles to crack.

At about 11:15 PM, fifteen minutes or so after El Cid messages the team to let them know he is at Murphy's and that Ace is already there, the team gets a message from Skye.

{Skye}

But before she starts to look up stuff, she sends another text to the group: -A ginormous troll is meeting with Ace now.-
