My preference would be to stick with 2e.

Same.

This, however, would still require your (Gary) decision on which optional rules in the core books are being used (of which, proficiencies are one). Even a "yes, we're using them" or "no, we're not" should suffice.

Then, if an optional rule is being used, it is being used by the book.

shaidar wrote: Mon Nov 18, 2024 3:13 pm I also get where Edeldhur is coming from when it comes to WP, vanilla fighters do seem to get a poor deal.
I strongly support this as well. Possibly even to the exclusion of multi-classed fighters.

Here is my suggestion "K.I.S." Keep It Simple!

I am fine whatever direction we go to be clear. But I like Dave and Edeldhur's ideas.

My point of view is that the GM is putting in the effort to run the game, he or she needs to like the rules. Player then have the option to play or not. Give me the rules and I will do my best to comply

I am ok with 1e :)
But my alternative vote is toward what you suggested initially - 2e PHB and DMG RAW. Done. No houserules, no weapon groups, no Complete books, nothing.
Definitely leaning in this direction with the exception of allowing specialty priests. Specialist wizards are in the PHB, why not specialist priests? 8-)

I like options too, Darithe, but dang there's a ton of 'em for 2nd edition. ;)

Will wait for input from the other players.
I can certainly live with this (2e/PHB/DMG/Specialty Priests). I'd prefer NWPs in some form, but can live without if that's the decision.

Correct! Keep it as simple or complex as you are willing to deal with Gary! Yes players should be happy but so too should the DM. :)

Sorry, I first learned to play using Pathfinder so I'm partial to options.

Played LOTS of Pathfinder and still think it is an amazing system. Just feel it got 'out of hand' with soooooo many extra books and rules. Feel like it lost some consistency unfortunately.
Would play Wrath of the Righteous without a second's hesitation though :D

Hey folks > I've been avoiding this game for a few days; just needed to step away, and reconsider whether I really want to do this again.
And I still haven't decided. :?:
If so, we're going to, as many of you have suggested, keep it simple.
(2e/PHB/DMG/Specialty Priests) and not much else.

Been there (frustrated with players turning something simple into a tangle of rules questions).

So apologies if my questions caused disruption and introduced unwanted complexity - happy to play the game as close to the 2e RAW as it goes.

Gary, I'm here no matter what rules make it. I don't care if it is PHB and DMG and nothing else in any system. It's all good here i can make just about anything work.

You tell me humans only and I say ok my human character thinks he is a dwarf and acts like one ;)

Me too. I am fine with it stripped down to just the core books and have no issues with WP and NWP in play.

Alles ist gut, mein Freund ;)

Happy Sunday, folks.
My gaming goals this week for FR Adventures are as follows:
1/ Update the maps for Port Llast and become reacquainted with my campaign notes.
2/ Plot out the scenarios going on in the sleep little coastal town - oh, there's always something going on in these out of the way places
3/ Help you finalize your characters.
4/ Set a launch date. I'm looking at either a week from today or Monday, December 2nd.
5/ Read and read some more the sources listed for the game.
6/ Continue to update the creation thread and Realms lore as needed. BTW, I did some editing and adding this morning already. Check it out ;)

Your gaming goals for the week:
1/ Let me know, either privately or in this thread, whether you plan to continue this game.
2/ Finish your character sheets in your private threads. No need to share everything with your companions...unless you just want to.
3/ Post a pic of your character, along with a description, in the Future Heroes of the Realms thread (if you haven't already done so).
4/ Unplug and have some family and friends time this weekend. Rex are going hunting? If so, good luck!

1. Yes I absolutely plan on continuing this game.
2. I'll have to sit down and look it over better to make sure it is definitely in the right edition that or I can always just do up a new sheet in 2e to ensure it is accurate.
3. Pretty sure I still have a picture and description on the current sheet so i can easily do this.
4. Rex probably is hunting he is further north of me so i wouldn't put it past him. ;) I personally haven't hunted in probably 28 years. Unplug plan on doing that here shortly.
