Galreth follows, he looks at the boxes and such in Quadrant 1 for a hole or something so he can place the torch in so he has his hands free.

Round 1 -Second Half

The group moves about Quadrant 1, picking and poking. There is much ruined baking supplies here, rat prints and droppings, but the skittering and scratching is coming from ahead of you in Quadrant 2. Examining the floor in the Alcove 1 doesn't expose anything that looks like it was once a well. Evidence of the rat problem is clear here, but not the source of it.

Galreth
At various locations along the walls there are sconces where a torch can be placed. I take it Galreth does this, does he take the torch with him when he moves along later?

Vesper stops her advance and says "We need more light to see both here and over there. Wait while I light another torch from Galreth's. I will then hurl it over to illuminate the darkness and whatever creatures dwell within".

She will set about executing this proposed task.

Round 2-first half

Vesper lights a torch (T5 )and tosses it into the area of Q2 and Q4
[1d6]=6[1d6]=5First roll was if it would go out when it hit the wet floor (1,2), second was max time it will burn
The torch lands and stays lighted...casting light throughout the back of the basement showing piles of trash and a dozen or more scampering bodies running for what looks like a shadow on the floor in Alcove 2.

Galreth, posts his torch (T4) in a wall sconce at Alcove 1. He hears the skittering and squeaking behind him and sees the light from Vesper's torch as she casts it ahead of her, but has his back turned at the moment so misses seeing the rats.

Gaurbal (L4) and Draven are following Vesper. They also see the rats scampering toward what is probably a hole in the floor inside Alcove 2.

Galreth will turn towards the rats and cast ShadowDance.

ShadowDance with Advantage [1d20]=8 [1d20]=19 - Success!

As many rats there is, that many large black cats (just a bit bigger than the rats) will jump silently down the stairs and bound between the company and the rats.

They will looks very aggressive by not attack, moving to stay between the two groups.

(I'm not sure I will do both this round, if not the arrow will be next round)

Both shots miss, Draven's arrow shattering against the back wall of Alcove 2 and Vesper's bolt skidding and disappearing into a pile of trash next to the jumble of stones in Alcove 2.

Gaurbal (L4) is caught on the hop and can do no more than put his lantern down at prepare his bow to shoot at the rats. As he is trying to line up a shot at the weaving rats.

At Vesper's shout, Galreth (T4) turns towards the rats and quickly casts ShadowDance.

You will all have a chance to shoot at the rats once more before they all disappear down this hole into the darkness below.

Galreth strikes at the horde as they stream away from the illusion.

Staff [1d20-1]=19-1=18 Dmg [1d4]=2

The cat shades will follow the rats to the hole and circle around the hole looking in and scaring the rats to stay down.

Round 3 - First Half

In the flickering light of the torch(T4) on the stone floor, Vesper holds her ground to reload and fires again, and her bolt strikes one of the rats. It looks like a rat on a skewer as the bolt goes all the way through the rodent, killing it. Draven's shot, however, bounces on the stone floor where a rat was a moment before missing any of the beasts!

Gaurbal lets fly with an arrow, striking true and killing one of the rats! His Lantern (L3) shines on the scene.

With his torch (T3) in a sconce behind him, Galreth strikes at the horde as they stream away from the illusion smashing a fleeting rat.

You have killed three rats, but more than twice that many scampered down the hole in the alcove's floor. Looking closely at it, you can see that it once might have been a well opening that had been covered over by wooden boards and flat stones to hide its existence. The wood, though, is old and rotten and has partly given way. Some of the covering stones may have fallen into the hole, but some are moved aside and piled into a stack.
