Black Wolf, Naugrim, and Willow on the Trail

Round 1

OOC: To be clear you can't melee attack this round as you are still too far from what is going on up the trail. This round you will hear the horn and can run from where you are to the FAR zone where the first party and the goblin spearmen are. You will be, still, too far away to attack the goblin bowmen, but will see them.

"Aooooooo!" sounds through the dark forest. It echoes around, but you are close enough to pin point that it is coming from only a bit further up the trail you are on.

Black Wolf draws his long sword and runs up the path. Naugrim pulls his axe from his back and runs forward. Willow who was in the lead sprints ahead sliding through the trees off to the side of the trail as the trio comes to a bend in the trail.

As Black Wolf and Naugrim round the bend they see a fight going on ahead of them! A human and a dwarf are engaged with a Goblin holding a spear, both are FAR from you and you won't be able to attack them at the moment. GM: Round 1 got you to this point FAR from the melee and OUT OF RANGE for the bowmen. Next round you can move to NEAR and attack in melee, or at range to the bowmen (unless something else happens).

Willow, however, finds herself at FAR range of a Goblin attacking a Human and Dwarf. She also sees another Goblin who is OUT OF RANGE further up the trail. GM: Willow can fire an arrow at the nearest Goblin and your previous order was to do so. I'll roll...

Quickly drawing her bow, Willow lets loose an arrow Willow's Longbow: [1d20+0]=20+0=20; Damage: [1d8]=7 which goes right into the Goblin's open mouth and out the back of its skull. It stands in shock for a second then collapses to the ground to move no more.

OOC: What a shot! :) Double damage, so 14 points to the Goblin, more than double its hp.

Ulfgar, Wendel, Fergus, Black Wolf, Naugrim, and Willow Stir up a Hornet's Nest!

Round 2

OOC: Forget Initiative rolls! Just post what you want your PC to do and I'll organize the posts into what happens. I think that works better online than trying to do one PC at a time.

Here is the situation:

Ulfgar and Fergus were engaged with a Goblin Spearman when it suddenly sprouted an arrow in it's mouth and dropped dead. Wendel had just cast his spell when a human and a dwarf ran up beside him and a halfling appeared out of the trees to his left and shot a Goblin dead.

Willow sees her arrow take the Goblin down and glances over seeing a human in a robe...a magic-user probably...and her two companions coming up on the human's right. Black Wolf and Naugrim round the bend in the trail and come up on a man pointing at a Goblin in the distance and a human and a dwarf standing over two dead goblins farther up the trail.

Before any of you can get a chance to take a breath, there is another "Aooooo!" from a horn and a swarm of Goblins come charging down the trail and out of the trees ahead of you! There must be 8 (call them G1-G8) of them, all carrying spears! They charge forward.

If Ulfgar, Fergus, Black Wolf and Naugrim run forward they will close with the charging Goblins and can all attack, and be attacked. From where Willow and Wendel are standing they would still be FAR from the Goblins and could attack with ranged weapons and spells. The small clearing where the melee will take place is wide enough for four across.

OOC: Now, Black Wolf and Naugrim can move up and attack! :)

Give me movement and action for each of your PCs!

Epic! :D

Willow purposeful and feeling decidedly confident after her last shot, draws and looses at the last remaining goblin archer.
Longbow [1d20+1]=4+1=5 [1d8+1]=2+1=3

Naugrim is caught up in the rush of excitement, running forward next to his fellow dwarf, between the two taller humans. With shield and mace, he swings at the goblin menace. "Onward, onward to victory! For glory and to preserve the law over chaos! Justice over kidnapping! To save Uncle Beto!" bellows the silver-voiced dwarf. "Like the goblin forces of U'luk Mashlak, you shall water the floor of this forest without even first blood drawn upon us!"
Mace [1d20+2]=7+2=9 [1d6+2]=1+2=3

Fergus rushes forward with Ulfar to engage the goblins, swinging at one with his long sword:

Long Sword: [1d20+4]=12+4=16; dmg [1d8+4]=4+4=8

Wendel

The wizard considers the use of his protective spell, but decides to continue more aggressively and recites the formula for another enchanted missile, intending to send it towards the goblin archer (if still standing), or a goblin spearman.

"Cordis Quaesitor"

Magic-Missile (adv, vs 11): [1d20+3]=1+3=4;[1d20+3]=17+3=20; dmg [1d4]=4

He looks on satisfied as the missile flies towards it's target.

Ulfgar, Wendel, Fergus, Black Wolf, Naugrim, and Willow Stir up a Hornet's Nest!

Round 3

Ulfgar, Fergus, Black Wolf and Naugrim move forward to clash with Goblin spearmen moving at them. Only 3 of the goblin spearmen can face the heroes because of the width of the clearing. Willow and Wendel hold their ground and attack at range. Combat results below range bands...

Willows bowshot is less accurate this time and her arrow whizzes past the Goblin archer, but Wendel's magic missile strikes him center mass and staggering the goblin steps back and then falls to the ground.

Fergus, Ulfgar, Black Wolf, and Nagrim form a line facing three goblins with spears.

Fergus' long sword thrusts out impaling the goblin front of him, kicking it to get it off his sword he sees that one is dead!

Ulfgar axe whistles down crashing through his opponent's spear and embedding itself in the chest of the goblin, gurgling it collapses as the doughy dwarf rips his axe out.

Naugrim calls out "Onward, onward to victory! For glory and to preserve the law over chaos! Justice over kidnapping! To save Uncle Beto!" Continuing the silver-voiced dwarf bellows "Like the goblin forces of U'luk Mashlak, you shall water the floor of this forest without even first blood drawn upon us!", but his mace crashes against the goblin's spear, not it's body doing neither damage.

OOC: I'm rolling hit/damage for Black Wolf to hit: [1d20]=5 dam: [1d8]=3. Adding Str and Mastery still won't do it, sorry!
Black Wolf pushes to goblin spearman with his shield and swings his long sword, but misses as the goblin steps back!

Now the remaining goblin strikes at Naugrim with his spear to hit: [1d20]=10 dam: [1d6]=5! His aim is off and the spear thrusts past Naugrim awkwardly missing him.

Round 2 results: G1, G2, and the remaining Goblin archer are dead. None of the PCs are injured. All the standing Goblins will be piling into Near range for the four melee PCs so it will be 6 to 4 in a slug fest! Unless Willow or Wendel move forward, or Neugrim, Ulfgar, Fergus or Black Wolf retreat.

What do all of you do now? Don't worry about initiative, just movement and action.

Wendel

"Cordis Quaesitor"

The wizard attempts to send another missile towards one of the goblins in the back row:

Magic-Missile (adv, vs 11): [1d20+3]=8+3=11;[1d20+3]=15+3=18; dmg [1d4]=3

"Nettles and bloodwort!" Willow curses under her breath, drawing another arrow. She focuses anew, aiming at the goblin rearmost in the ranks before he reaches the others.
Longbow [1d20+1]=20+1=21 [1d8+1]=1+1=2

"Oh HO! You would resist the dwarven might, craven goblin?" intones Naugrim, bringing his mace around with another swing. He adjusts his aim, however, doing a knockout so he can bind and question the goblin after...

PC Initiative Order this round: BW, Willow, Ulfgar, Fergus, Wendel, Naugrim

What happens!
Black Wolf swings at the goblin before him (G3) and hits it! His blade wounds (2 hp) the creature, but it fights on! [Note to balrog, add +2 STR and +1 Longsword Mastery to your to hit rolls. 7+3=10 and that hit this Goblin.]

"Nettles and bloodwort!" Willow curses under her breath, drawing another arrow. She focuses anew, aiming at the goblin (G8) rearmost in the ranks before he reaches the others. Her arrow streaks past the fight in the trail and implants itself in the Goblin's chest killing it. [Note: Wow another nat 20!]

Ulfgar continues to attack the goblin nearest him (G6) shouting, "Don't let any get away!", but unfortunately his axe whistles past the Goblin as it nimbly steps aside!

The creature facing Fergus (G5) sneaks its spear in under Fergus' guard (-2hp) making him grunt, but then Fergus strikes back (G5) with his Long Sword, making a killing blow as his sword thrusts deep into the creature. Fergus kicks the dead monster away as he pulls his sword out again grunting and seeing blood on his hand as he holds his side.

Wendel attempts to send another missile towards one of the goblins in the back row crying out "Cordis Quaesitor" again. A glowing rock streaks from in front of his hands unerringly striking the creature (G7) who stumbles forward a stride before falling face first to the ground.

"Oh HO! You would resist the dwarven might, craven goblin?" intones Naugrim, bringing his mace around with another swing. He adjusts his aim, however, doing a knockout so he can bind and question the goblin after...rather than crushing its skull, the mace strikes the Goblin (G6) in the gut, it doubles over and collapses gasping for air, alive but incapacitated for now.

The wounded G3 and G4 both thrust their spears at Black Wolf. He deftly blocks one and leans aside as the other misses him!

Seeing all their companions down or dead, the two remaining Goblins ( G3 & G4) turn and run for their lives back up the trail away from the fighting! G3 is limping and using his spear as an aid, so he falls behind the uninjured G4.

Results: G7, G8, & G5 dead; G6 down; G3-2hp & G4 running away. Fergus took 2 hp damage.

Naugrim
With the others handling the last two stragglers, Naugrim swiftly binds the groggy goblin before him, ensuring he's secure for questioning. After a moment of consideration, he gags him temporarily as well... no need having him talking before we want him to.

Willow snaps off another shot at the fleeing goblins to ensure none escape.
Longbow [1d20+1]=19+1=20 [1d8+1]=3+1=4
Hearing the noises behind her, she scurries forward towards the others to ensure she isn't caught on a new front-line.
