Sounds like a lot of extraneous stuff for the DM to keep track of.
If you trust the DM, why not just make it REALLY easy on him and let him make all of the rolls?
Obviously makes no difference to me, as I have no stake in the game. Just making an observation...

We'll conduct our own experiment, thank you.

My apologies, man, was just tossing out an idea.Norjax wrote:^This.Alethan wrote:Obviously makes no difference to me, as I have no stake in the game.

You have fun with your experiment.

Re: Star Frontiers
As I see it, we have four people (including the GM) willing to think a little out of the box to accommodate a different way of PbP gaming. Star Frontiers was the second RPG (after AD&D) that I learned to play. This fond memory has been stirred by Recklessfireball's game, and our attempt at a new method is the only way I can currently play.

Re: Star Frontiers
Okay, easy does it, fellas. We're all friends here.
Arranging the numbers into 10x10 columns might be a lot of work, but I can always make the players do that part. Or we can can just list them all in a single column, and I can roll 1d100 and count from top to bottom (or bottom to top), marking them off as I go. Anyway, we'll work all that out in the topic I set up in the game forum.

Re: Star Frontiers
So RF rolls once to determine the starting point on the matrix, and a second time to determine in which direction he proceeds on the matrix, and then he just keeps moving on that path, choosing numbers and crossing them out as he goes?Norjax wrote:He's what I propose.
We (the players) each pre-roll 100 d10's into a 10x10 matrix. When a roll is called for, Recklessfireball will randomly select which value to use by making a roll himself where to enter the matrix.
Assuming that works for RF, it sounds fine to me.
The disadvantage to laying out the 100d10 into one line is that, once the players determine where you are in the line, they can "predict" future rolls and tailor their actions accordingly.
E.g. if the line of rolls is 17, 16, 18, 1... and you just saw the 17, 16, and 18 come up in the last round, you know to make some sort of innocent skill check to burn off that 1 before you get into combat or something...
Re: Star Frontiers
Yep, that's the general idea. I'll post the details in the game's forum.sulldawga wrote:So RF rolls once to determine the starting point on the matrix, and a second time to determine in which direction he proceeds on the matrix, and then he just keeps moving on that path, choosing numbers and crossing them out as he goes?
Re: Star Frontiers
If this is the easiest route for RF to take, I'm sure he'll suggest it. Like I said before, I don't have to make my own rolls as a player.Alethan wrote:why not just make it REALLY easy on him and let him make all of the rolls?
Re: Star Frontiers
I'm fine with this matrix idea if that is the route we're going, but personnaly I think am fine with GM just making the roll. I'm not really sure what the advantage is of the matrix idea.
With the matrix, the GM has to roll twice to get a result that could have been gotten with a single dice roll. just seems like a lot of extra work for little return.

Re: Star Frontiers
The idea behind the matrix is that the DM rolls twice and gets 100 rolls, not one.
