I just looked, and Celene is quote:
"notable for being the most prominent elven nation in eastern Oerik."
So, the grey elf is certainly possible.

No idea what a bladesinger is? I did find a mention of them under the entry for gray elf, but it provides no details aside from a brief description of what they are. They sound like a fighter/magic-user, so that multiclass combination is what I would allow instead (assuming the minimum requirements are met).

in 1e they are fighter/musers

grey elves are highly scholarly, so his motivation to leave Celene and adventure could be some legend he came across in a library; maybe while scribing lore for his mentor

the Welkwood { N } is rumored to have gateways to the fey realm and the Cat Lord's Prowl

on the way he could encounter other PCs, if anyone is in Nyr Duv, Urnst, Kron Hills, Lortnil Mountains, Dyvers, Furyondy, Greyhawk, Verbobonc, Veluna, High Folk

starting level is 1, i assume

To elaborate on this.

A bladesinger feels very 5e (or, at the very least, post-1e) to me.

And that — 1e — is a very important detail for me in this game. I want for it to feel like an old school game out of my youth. Free from all the extra expansions and details introduced in later editions (even 2e, which I like — a lot).

As far as the players are concerned, only the PHB exists. Not even Unearthed Arcana.

As the DM, however, I plan to convert/borrow from certain 2e sources heavily. Cool things.

But… let’s talk.

If you want to discuss this privately; let’s do that. If you’re okay to discuss publicly; let’s do that instead.

What feature or aspect of the bladesinger are you most interested in?

We cross-posted.

Unfortunately, I'm no closer to understanding what a "muser" is than I am to understanding what a bladesinger is in 1e.

Let's forget labels for a second. From my previous post:

"What feature or aspect of the bladesinger are you most interested in?"

Assuming the ability scores for your character qualify, this would certainly be allowed.

I'm certainly interested. Would you allow the scout from dragon 161?

I own very few issues of Dragon magazine, and issue 161 isn’t one of them.

What about a scout interests you?

Why not a ranger?

You know what, I haven't played a ranger that often, so why not. Human of course.

If I fail the rolls then I guess he's a human that wanted to be a ranger but wasn't good enough.

I'm not hugely familiar with greyhawk. I have the gazateer. The area I know reasonably well is the area of celene and the various Uleks.

Honestly, neither am I. A part of the reason I'm having players target specific areas is so I'm able to narrow my focus a bit.

Keep in mind, your starting point doesn't necessarily need to be someplace you know or are familiar with. You could literally pick anywhere on the map that you're interested in or curious about, and get exposure to that area by actually playing in it.

Fair enough, I'll have a think about it. It did tie up with Celene and being a ranger is all.

Sounds good.

I created a 'Possible Starting Adventure Locations' topic to keep a running list of potential starting locations and Celene is definitely on there.

Hi Dave - I’m Ben. Would love to play T1 with you when you’re ready!

I usually like the pointy hats and jazz hands when I have the choice of class, but I’m happy to play what the party needs or accept the dictates of the dice.

(And I know pretty much zilch about Greyhawk!)

Very cool! I see that is built (or shared) in World Anvil, which is a tool I plan on using heavily for this game (as I purchased a lifetime license for it).

A lot of my planning and development will be done there.

In fact, building and fully fleshing out T1 into World Anvil will be one of my most significant delays in getting that official module started.

Don't let this deter you. I know very little about Greyhawk myself. By launching this game now, I'm forcing myself to really learn about the areas that the different groups (or solo adventures) will be taking place.

Very cool map. I have played in Greyhawk a few times over the years (currently in a couple on here) but the truth is they rarely do more that just very background influence. I have owned the original box set since it first came out and read it many times back then. But transitioned away from the setting when I discovered Harn around 85. So in truth I am far from knowledgeable on the setting. Just plan on looking things up as I need to.
