CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
OOC: Tonight, I will post a resolution to this encounter along with the means to introduce the new characters. Don’t worry, there is still time to flesh out the new characters after my post.

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
The Gam'A Zone; 345-346D/81 (Evening)
After the initial volley of ranged weapons does negligible damage and little to abate the enemy advance, Bruce signals to the group an intent requiring you to give him a wide berth. A strange hum builds from within his android body as he accesses an energy well from his deep, central core. A terminal red glow glares from his eyes, building to power a Mighty Martial Strike!
You watch in horrified awe as your companion becomes a whirling blur of retribution against the ominous onslaught of Smart Metal denizens! He impacts against the first robot and bounces back and forth between each, producing thunderous POPS, BANGS and showers of colored sparks at each collision! Dust whips up and obscures the scene before you. Then, a blue and yellow streak leaves the dust cloud and slams into the sealed wall where the prisoners passed into the structure. A furious CRACK erupts out of the wall as yellow streams of vaporized poly Bruce radiates forth in all directions
The cloud dissipates, revealing ten heaps of scrap metal and polycraft flickering with fire and pouring black smoke into the residual dust. The wall where Bruce crashed contains an irregular smoking hole to the interior of the fortress. An eerie silence hangs over the ghostly-lit nightscape.
OOC: Ardak2000 graciously asked that his character retire with a heroic sacrifice that advanced the party’s position and furthered the plot; This was before we gained our new recruits. Max’s unfortunate fumble placed the life and/or freedom of the party in jeopardy and a positive resolution was doubtful. Since Bruce’s sacrifice could resolve the scenario to the party’s favor and accelerate the introduction of the new characters, we agreed this was the best way for Bruce to depart. Remember the hero, always!

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Like smoke... whoah... mumbles Max as he watches the show. He squints, looking for the robot karateka but to no avail. His eyes blur.
Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Silvestri watches Bruce with awe. However, when Bruce strikes the building and the smoke clears with no sign of his android friend that awe turns to dread.
"Bruce!" he calls out as he makes his way down to the structure, feeling that this trip to Motter's realm was biting off far more than they could chew.

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Kurot stands motionless, first in awe of Bruce's devastating display of offensive output, and then in shock at the...well, devastation. Kurot's circuits have trouble processing the input—a careful observer might even notice spinning beach balls in Kurot's eyes, and if they were from another time, they might even start to wonder if they needed to "reboot" him (a phrase Kurot is not sure he understands, since he usually does not wear boots).
Eventually (which, in android time, means several long microseconds), Kurot's self-governing module notices that the visual input processing and higher-level cognitive processes are non-responsive. After a force-quit and restart of those processes, Kurot finds himself once again able to speak and act.
He still doesn't know what to say. "Damn..." is the best he can manage.
His first instinct is to see whether any of Bruce's cognitive processing units can be salvaged. There seems to be little hope, not with complete vaporization like this, but his risk-reward estimation shows that it is at least worth a try. If even a part of Bruce's mind could be salvaged, then perhaps... (Kurot doesn't allow himself to complete that thought, perhaps realizing that doing so would raise all the problems with the idea.) Still, he scans the area for any sign that something of Bruce might be left.

The Gam'A Zone; 345-346D/81 (Evening)
Kurot surveys the area where Bruce impacted the stone wall and exploded into a debris cloud. It doesn’t take him long to recognize a small, two-inch diameter black, shiny, and smooth sphere. The lone construct reaches down and picks up the military-grade central processing core for a combat android. The sealed artificial brain retains the essence of Bruce’s AI personality but lacks any memory storage area for retention of existence, experience, and skills. If the unit could be placed into another synthetic android, it would be Bruce but not be Bruce. Kurot stores the unit in one of his backpack pockets for future retrieval.
With the dust of impact clearing, an irregular, five-foot, segmented hole is revealed where you witnessed an opening dematerialize and then materialize in the wall behind the prisoners and their faceless minders.

Intermittent sounds can be heard from the dark interior.

Silvestri
With the blaster still drawn and pointing at the opening, the psion approaches Kurot "We should take a look, but cautiously. There might still be some of Motter's metal minions inside."

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Max crosses his arms and harrumphs. He mutters, if my connection with the almighty hadn’t failed so spectacularly, I’d be able to do something about that…
Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Denslow says, I can reach in there with a tendril and see what’s inside…

You hear a unintelligible murmur, of sorts, from inside the hole. It doesn't appear to be focal source; its more omnidirectional.

Silvestri
Cautious about what robotic rapscallions might be hiding in the dark of the hole, he slips on the goggles and activates them:
Goggles power check: [1d8]=1
the power unit slips down a notch, will update the macro roll

The Gam'A Zone; 345-346D/81 (Evening)
The Gogglevision now activated, Silvestri sees into the dark opening and the chamber beyond. A wall is directly opposite the hole, 20ft in distance. Four figures stand or move about in the structure; A human with long hair, a humanoid wearing a bulky costume with shiny headgear, a squat, four-armed individual and something that looks like a walking toadstool.
The four-armed being and the costumed humanoid cautiously navigate their way to the hole and the exterior of the fortress. You also hear a voice say, "Light, yes, we need light" and "That's better"

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
A disembodied voice that sounds like millions of tiny voices phasing in and out of sync with each other, like grains of sand blowing in the wind calls out seems to emanate from the orange suited body with the shiny helmet:
"Greetings, we are Ant(Unintelligible), are you Mission Control?"
The figure moves through the gap in the wall with slowl sloth-like deliberate movements, stops after a few short steps and calmly assesses the outside world, carefully surveying the immediate surroundings but without seeming to acknowldge any of the figures it has just addressed.

The short mutant marvels at this suited entity, but keeps his wits enough to move out of the hole behind the it and to the right. He stops and looks over the people outside, seemingly appraising them.

"Greetings, Pretty Sure. Greetings, Not It. Greetings, Silvestri. We are also many."
Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Silvestri laughs "No, there is only one of me, called Silvestri. I didn't quite get your name.. Ant something?"

Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Anton slowly points to the tattered name tag on the chestpiece of his orange spacesuit, white symbols on black backgound read: "GREGOR, ANTON E.". A sound like sand moving in an hourglass accompanies his slow movement. Silvestri sees himself refelected in the glass of the helmet. If he looks past his reflection he can see a human skull, covered in strange green mold floating calmly within the helmet, a skull covered in busy, scurrying ants.
"Call us ... Anton. Silvestri."
"Call us ... Anton. Silvestri."
Re: CHAPTER 12a: The Fortress of the Plain
Denslow waves a branch and greets the newcomers.
