The forums are being set up. Go ahead and roll attributes.
4d6, drop the lowest, six times
Rearrange scores as you see fit.
There is some 2 for 1 trading of attribute scores, just touch base with me or bhart first.

Once the forums are set up Bill and I can do some organizing, and you and the other players can start strategizing. :)
This is a game about killing things and taking their stuff so you can become more powerful in order to kill bigger things and take even better stuff.
Alethan: I'm good with NOT pressing our luck this time.
mjulius: That's how I know I'm home.
Pulpatoon: The whole point of PbP is to take the scheduling pressure off the game. We're just chatty because we're so eager!
Scott308: ...everyone should be reminded of just how wonderful the people they play games with here can be in real life.
Leitz: Quality and quantity wise, I think US is the best I've seen.
Paladin: I can promise terror, glory, and riches...or a quick and brutal death.
Inferno: Come on! That's was Vicar's Head, a completely different doomed village!
Rex: I can move to the wait list to let someone else into the game.

How will magic-user type classes determine their spell book spells?
Hmm, I don't think this one was answered (this is the Character Generation thread for now :) ).

Here's what we'll do:
For spell levels 1 - 3: You can choose your total Minimum Number of Spells as per Intelligence
For spell levels 4 - 5: You can choose half (round up) your minimum number of spells
For the rest of your spell book you can dice randomly for the rest of your spells up to your Maximum Number of Spells.
No need to roll Chance to Know each spell. This should give MUs all the tools that they need to enter the Tomb.

So for example, if you have an 18 INT and put all 600K XPs into single class MU (you do have and 18 INT!) then it breaks down as such:
An 11th level MU gets up to 5th level spells.
An 18 INT gets you 9 Minumum Number of Spells and 18 Maximum Number.
So your spell book would have:
1st level: You choose 9 spells, and then randomly roll for 9 more
2nd level: You choose 9 spells, and then randomly roll for 9 more
3rd level: You choose 9 spells, and then randomly roll for 9 more
4th level: You choose 5 spells, and then randomly roll for 13 more
5th level: You choose 5 spells, and then randomly roll for 13 more

You can use the combined spell list here: BEWARE THIS LINKS DIRECTLY TO A PDF DOWNLOAD -
http://www.freewebs.com/tannemor/magicuserspells.pdf

For the Clerics (who don't have to worry about spell books) their combined list is here: AGAIN PLEASE BEWARE THIS LINKS DIRECTLY TO A PDF DOWNLOAD -

Any mundane equipment, just take. We will be using encumbrance, probably best to travel light into the Tomb, but up to you. You know the old saying - "I don't have to run faster than the bulette, I just have to run faster than you!"

Any rare non-magical equipment, just hit myself or bhart up with a PM to see if your justification for having it is okay. We'll approve on a case-by-case.

For magical equipment, we are going to provide a list of 20 items for everyone to choose from. Not sure how we'll do that since once you take an item from the list, then someone else can't have it. It'll be really stinky for the wait list guys, but when someone dies, you can always take his stuff and redistribute... if possible.

Hey Ron don't forget there are traps that will kill these PCs in gruesome and horrible ways that make it impossible to recover their equipment. Muhahahahahaha  Ahem...sorry as I was saying, for new characters we may need to replenish the list or assign a few items to each...Ah who am I kidding it's not going to help them. They are all going to die anyway.

Thanks for the replies Ron and Bhart;

Okay, I'm not sure what happened; but I rolled up a set of stats for my newly created character; Xale Mav; but they seem to be missing from the sheet. Is there a way to see the rolls?

I'm pretty sure they were: 12, 10, 15, 14, 14, 14.

My idea was to create a Dwarven Fighter/Cleric; with the following stats (after several 2 for 1 trades and the Dwarven modifiers of +1 CON and -1 CHA):

STR: 17 INT: 10 WIS: 15 DEX: 10 CON: 15 CHA: 9

With 300,000/300,000 xp and the level limits per Attribute ratings; Xale is a NG Mountain Dwarf; level 8/8 (Fighter/Cleric).

I was thinking of making him a bit of an oddity in worshipping Dalt; the God of Portals, Doors, Enclosures, Locks, and Keys....and big into opening them. :) (Which explains his status as a veteran Adventurer drawn to the mystery of the incredibly dangerous Tomb....for more about Dalt; here's a link: http://www.canonfire.com/wiki/index.php?title=Dalt )

Is this character concept cool with the DMs?

You should be able to go to the Search tab and search for all rolls for a character.

The only way you might NOT be able to see these rolls in any kind of history is if you made them individually with the Roll-on-the-Fly function. Maybe the Admin (ToniXX) could pull them from the database, but if you don't have a campaign ID or character name associated with them, I'm not sure you can successfully search for them. I guess you could figure out the current Roll ID and start searching your way backwards until you find the various rolls. But if you used the "Roll Stats" function, then you have a Character name and you should see those rolls under the Character search.

Hmmm.....I tried that and I get the "There are no Results to your search" response.

I used the "Roll Stats" option. Maybe there's something I'm missing?

What Al said. I did go a few rolls back and other than a RGR/MU rolling several sets of HPs (looking for you   ) and a ton of people rolling up characters I didn't see those rolls.

Sounds okay though. I like Dalt, being a fan of Fharlanghn could be why!

EDIT: If you didn't press "AYE" you may not have saved the attribute rolls where they can be find. I think that AYE is the key.

I thought I had; but I guess I was a dummy and pressed 'Nay'....DOH!

Yeah, I like Dalt a lot too; along with Rudd....two of the most overlooked and most appropriate for Adventurers Gods in Greyhawk, in my opinion.

I don't mean to start a thread de-rail; but I've always been astonished at the number of people who pick Fharlanghan as thier favorite Deity/Deity of choice for thier Cleric; etc. I always read his description and thought he wasn't really a God for Adventurers at all; but most people I know seem to love him.

Oh well, different strokes for different folks' I guess! :)

Party 1 is full up, and Party 2 is half way there.
That'll leave the Wait Lists. Which will likely become a factor in this game.
ToniXX should have the games up soon, and then we can move all this talk to the appropriate forum.

Hmm, I was rolling up a PC just now and am a bit unsure if I have got things down as far as macros and whatnot. I rolled up a human Cleric but it says there are no macros associated with my account. Does that mean the DM's are unable to see my rolls? If not I'll gladly try to figure out what's going on an re-roll.

The stats I rolled are:

S 10
I 13
W 16
D 15
C 16
Ch 9

Let me know if I should keep these or re-roll, please.

Also, are you using the DMG's age modifiers for attibute scores?

Alright. I'm probably dumb enough to get killed, so I might as well try to make up for it with a decently strong character. I was going to make a ranger (8) dual-classing into magic-user after 150,001 experience.

I rolled
Stats: STR:17, CON:15, WIS:15, DEX:16, CHR:14, INT:17
And barring any restrictions I was going to dump CHR down to 6 (the lowest a non-assassin can go) to get STR 18, CON 16, INT 18, and DEX 17, since CHR is worthless for rangers.

As far as mundane equipment goes, I don't need much besides a backup weapon, an ranged weapon, and some spell books. I'm not aware of any sort of mundane armor magic-users can wear in 1e, right?

It depends on the DM's ruling; but if a human sized suit of Elfin Chain Mail can be obtained; its possible you can cast spells in that.

I would never say any attributre is totally useless for any class; it depends on how you want to role-play. However; if you mean is CHA a requirement for any particular class; it only is for Paladins and Druids and Cavaliers if using UA (though, I've never really understood why Druids need it).

What about the items the character would be able to create - like potions and scrolls - would it be possible to begin with some of those? For example, by forfeiting some of the 600k experience.

I missed it too, Nuke. I'll wait on the waiting list. Should those of us on said list roll a PC?
