OOC II
Re: OOC II
Not trying to inflame anything, just talking it out... This, to me, seems to be essentially the same argument as the one where we roll our own dice or we let dmw roll them. It's sort of seeping around the edges in a different way, but it's the same thing.
In a tabletop game, if I was 3rd in initiative order and the first two people killed a goblin, I might do something other than shooting into that same melee. I'm used to the idea, there, that when my turn comes, the previous actions have been resolved, and I have some ability to react to them.
Here, I'd say there's a question about the order in which actions get resolved, and rolling the dice ahead of time/"reacting" to the various hits feels natural, but it's probably not as natural as it seems. Zhym could be holding a shot that would kill the goblin before it kills a member of the party because of rolls that'll apply after the goblin's attack, if the attackers survive to make them.
This is the natural reason/argument for doing the dice rolling *after* the action declarations.

Not at all, man. I appreciate your thoughts, and I understand your points about timing. That said, this is what I'm going to fall back on:drpete wrote:Not trying to inflame anything, just talking it out..
Yes, this order is "waived" in the name of efficiency (and will remain so), but it will be followed.LL:52 wrote:Combat
In most cases, there will be two opposing sides in a combat
sequence. Whether it is monsters against the characters or
characters fighting each other, there is one specific sequence
to combat, as outlined below.
- Players declare character movement or actions. <---
- Initiative: 1d6 is rolled by each opposing side.
I am not going to request that Greg set up private forums for every player. I'm also not going to request that all roll results be PM'd to me, or I start making all the rolls myself. Instead, I am going to insist that players avoid metagaming. It's bullshit. If asking that players get into the spirit of the game, and play their character without the benefit of outside influence (e.g. die rolls) is too much, then perhaps it's time that the status of this game be re-evaluated.
I've gone ahead and posted the next update. I don't feel as if this situation needs to be drawn out, but feel free to share your thoughts if necessary. Otherwise, assuming everyone is still in, please feel free to post your update in the action thread and let's keep moving.

Well, now that your roll was successful, I'll admit that it was pretty exciting to have a true 'save or die' situation.Rusty Tincanne wrote:No worries Dave. Just to clarify, is AdaRue taking all six keys?Rusty Tincanne wrote:To be sure they aren't left behind, AdaRue pockets the silver keys...

Unless someone says something different. I just want to be sure they aren't left behind because we were being polite to one another and no one ever mentioned anything.

Regarding this:Rusty Tincanne wrote:AdaRue, having not been near the door, asks Canun what he heard.
Unless I wrap something in a spoiler and deliberately flag the information as being for a specific character/player, let's just establish that anything provided in the update is public knowledge. For something like that, where AleBelly could easily just whisper his findings to those nearest him (and chain it from there), I'd just assume not waste a day waiting for that to actually happen.

Re: OOC II
AdaRue would definitely mention it, but I wasn't so sure Canun would.

Fair enough, but the proverbial dagger cuts both ways.
In that case, since the game default is that anything shared by me publicly is available to all; if a player wants publicly-shared information kept private because only their character would have had access to it, it will be their responsibility to make that request.
I realize timing may be an issue with some players having more access to the Internet than others, but I do not foresee too many of these situations and do not expect it to be a problem.

Re: OOC II
Yeah, Canun wouldn't have withheld this information. I'm playing him to be unlikeable in part due to his very low charisma score. But I want there to be a reason behind it - he's greedy, puts self-interest above all, and is quite lacking in social graces. But I don't want him to be an a**hole indiscriminately. So in this situation he has nothing to gain by not telling the others what he heard.

Canun and Horatio should be buds.
Re: OOC II
I'm confused as to what poor man you're referring to? The guy in the "stinky" room? If so, he is already dead. He was barely clinging to life, and was caught in the blast that AdaRue triggered... but went off on Horatio.AleBelly wrote: Come on, AdaRue, you don't want to leave a poor man behind to be tortured by those goblins, do you? Would your god ever forgive you?"[/dialog]
So, you haven't encountered anyone that you'd be leaving behind (which is not to say there aren't people you haven't encountered yet that require saving).

Re: OOC II
He's making an assumption that he heard someone being tortured through the door. The fact that he may be wrong won't stop Canun from stating assumption as fact

Now that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Sorry, guys.
My oldest had a choir concert last night, and I've been preparing to run (my first) Roll20 game tonight which is taking a lot of time. If I can't sneak in an update before tonight, I'll get you guys rolling again over the weekend.

Re: OOC II
Looks like you forgot to include Canun's healing of AdaRue
viewtopic.php?f=357&t=6867&start=140#p333037
With rest she should be back to full HP.

Thanks!
Re: OOC II
FYI...
I'm actually going to be a player in a face-to-face game tonight, so if I can't sneak in an update today from work, I might not be able to update again until tomorrow.
