Though not one to regularly drink to excess, Martin thought the contest would be a good way to bond with his new partners.

"I hope it's not to late to join in, " he says before quickly downing his mug of ale.

quick drink (CON 12) = [1d20+2] = 7+2 = 9

Of course, not one to be deterred Val quickly grabs another and quickly gulps it down!

Val extra time [1d3] = 1

Val gulps it down pretty quickly! Quicker than the last one! He is looking pretty good, despite his rocky start.

Grinning widely as he watches, Halfred exclaims "well! This seems just the thing for a cold Harrowing day! I suppose I should join in as well, if only not to be the odd one out!"

With that he snatches up a mug and raises it to his lips, swallowing quickly.

Quick drink: CON 11 [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16, delay time [1d3] = 1, Poison ST 8 [1d20] = 2, CON loss [1d3] = 2
So it sounds like it took the halfling 5 minutes + 1 minute delay = 6 minutes to finish his first drink, but he passed the saving throw. He'll suffer +1 minute to each additional drink.

The halfling slams his mug down on the bar a little too hard and burps, seemingly surprising himself. "Oops! Excuse me."

Hey, Keehnelf. Any way that Kennit could get in on this? It seems too fun to miss. I believe his first official appearance was on the day after Harrowing.

Actually, Orrin could participate, they were back from the Finger around this time, correct? Don't want to miss out!

Yes, Orrin was back. I'll add Halfred, Orrin and Kennit :)

Do you want to do this in discrete rounds where we wait for everyone to drink before moving on or if it just a big free-for-all until people start passing out :)? I also assume we need to deduct coins for drinks?

Thanks Zorroroaster, you pointing this out made me go have a look. Kennit was there on the 30th with Rhodri and Orrin and he was already drunk! Too perfect.

Kennit walks into Ghrym's tavern at a fortuitous time. He nudges one of the onlookers, "What have we got 'ere? A drinking contest? Who'se winning? That stringbean with the pointed ears! Well shoot, get me in on this."[/ooc]

Kennit takes a seat on the end with a determined look. He takes the first beer and finishes it as quickly as possible.
CON Check (16): [1d20+5] = 13+5 = 18
Delay Time: [1d3] = 2
Save vs. poison (8): [1d20] = 5
CON Loss: [1d3] = 1
He belches loudly, and doesn't seem to like the taste of it. He pats himself on the stomach and takes a verrry leisurely drink next.
CON Check (15): [1d20-2] = 7-2 = 5
Delay Time: [1d3] = 3

Olympia proceeds to take another quick drink of ale, sloppily pouring it down her throat rather unsuccessfully.

CON(11): [1d20+2] = 18+2 = 20
Drinktime delay: [2d3] = 3
Poison Save: [1d20] = 14
Drink time: +8 minutes

Olympia learns her lesson, and decides to take a normal amount of time with her next ale.

CON(11): [1d20] = 7
Drinktime delay: [2d3] = 4
Drink time: +14 minutes
Her overall time is now 29 minutes of drankin'

Varas is overjoyed to see others participate, and laughs at the dwarf as he tries to drink too quickly. "I thought dwarves would know that slow and steady wins the race." He sips another ale leisurely.

I assumed that each beer had to be consumed within 20 minutes...or are we saying that you have to **on average** drink a beer every 20 minutes? Just asking for a rules clarification...

Thistlebottom gestures urgently to the barkeep for another mug as he watches the other competitors. His eyes go wide as several others gather an impressive collection of empty drinks in front of them, and he takes the ale in both hands, lifting it to his mouth so quickly some of the foam goes up his nose. The halfling sneezes and rubs his nose on his arm before raising his drink again and drinking as quickly as he can.

Chug: Time [1d3+1] = 1+1 = 2, CON 11 [1d20+5] = 12+5 = 17
delay time [1d3] = 2, Poison ST 8 [1d20] = 6, CON loss [1d3] = 2
This drink will take a total of 4 minutes, and bump him up to a total of 2d3 delay time. So far he hasn't failed a saving throw.
EDIT: I take that back: he DID fail his saving throw, and drops to an effective Constitution of 9.
EDIT: Uh, if I understand how saving throws work (a roll under the ST number is a failure), I failed the first time too and actually have an effective Constitution of 7.

Halfred sets his cup down a trifle unsteadily, grinning around at the other customers.

Orrin elbows his way into the fray, making space for himself in the crush of drunken adventurers. He lines up three ales in front of himself, and shouts loudly for all to hear:

"You are all about to learn a lesson. Never hold a drinking contest with a dwarf."

He quickly downs the first ale:

Quick Drink: [1d20+2] = 6+2 = 8

He immediately grabs the second ale and drinks that one just as fast:

Quick Drink: [1d20+2] = 2+2 = 4

Turning to the third, again he slams it back:

Quick Drink: (CON 16) [1d20+2] = 14+2 = 16

After the last ale, he belches. Loudly.

"Good, all warmed up. Shall we begin?"

I'm assuming a tie on the CON check is a pass? :D

nicely done Master Dwarf, cries Martin, slapping Orrin heartily on the back. "Nicely done!" He then picks up a fresh mug and quickly downs it, wiping the foam from his mouth as he holds the empty glass upside down.

Quick drink (CON12). [1d20+2] = 5+2 = 7

is this a contest to see who can down the most beer in the shortest amount of time. Or just who can down the most beer?

20 minutes for a single drink. The elapsed time is just there as a guide for how quickly people knock themselves out.
