Durgo

Durgo secures a bow from the Bowyer cost 82 gp 5 sp unless it's discounted after the donation. You have a fine selection of bows here sir. Perhaps a spare string would be useful also. Just in case. He gives a grin.

Durgo makes inquiries about a substance similar to Greek fire and will go there to acquire 2 flasks of it. Hello my name is Durgo and I'm looking for something that's contained a liquid in a flask that breaks on contact and burst into flame. If you have something like that, I'd be interested in purchasing a couple.

Durgo, you can equip the bow and mundane gear.

Turgen's Mercantile

The merchant has a stock of lantern oil which usually desperate adventurers throw to light up. A splash causes minimal damage whilst a pool causes 2d6 and 1d6 of damage to those burning inside it, though one flask can only create a small yard wide area of fire.

"Holy water burns like the substance you desire, but only on undead and we are not licensed to sell it here. The church itself is the only procurer of such divine blessing and I believe the font is quite limited to its current quantity available.", the merchant points to other alternatives.

He noted there are gnome artisans who tinker with alchemy and compounds that have concocted various such 'hell fire' devices but has none in stick himself.

Durgo

Durgo replies, "Thank you kind sir. I'll check the gnomes out the next time I'm in town. Here's 25 gp as an investment in you place."

Durgo leaves his generosity in the places he visits in hopes it will help the shop owner improve their shops and slowly improve the town.

Durgo pays for a bow -66 gp for a longbow. Sheet updated. I'll leave the Greek fire for another time he thinks.

Dougal will head directly to the Brazen Strumpet. He will spend his time in Helix mostly alone with his wolfhound, just seeing his companions during the meals and drinking little. Most of the time he will spend at the town's edge, training his wolfhound Conmhaol to get familiar with his voice and to simple commands like "Stop, wait, come, down, attack" etc. He already had his share of drinking and city bustle.

He will join his companions when it's time to leave for the harpy nest (or whatever adventure is on the menu if any eventuality change their goal).

Does some general shopping among the merchants to stock up on a new bull's-eye lanthorn and five flasks of oil, buys a second pouch of crossbow bolts to supplement his ammunition, buys a silvered dagger.

Before they rest for the night after their return, Sven goes to check on his gnomish friends, hoping to find them well in their absence.

"Fellas. Do you remember that diamond we got from the tumbling thief? Well, I got some good news."

He pays his team members their fair share from the spoils, hopefully giving them plenty of incentive to continue their explorations with the group.

Konrad's Artificers and Innovative Connoisseurs.

It seems the gnomes have set up a workshop in the village and spread across a couple of sheds, various tinkering benches and mechanical gizmos are worked.

They bank their share, thanking you heartily and explain some of the latest experiments.

Konrad says that 'klepto' is behaving. Gnimish says the iron cobras are a strange mechanical construct. They run on a clockwork mechanism that seems to be wound by some power that emanates from a throbbing jewel. Almost as if the sapphire acted like a battery and that battery was charged by the atmospheric conditions of the Barrowmaze. With the two broken cobras, he has constructed one clockwork creature that can animate as a guard. It will slither around and chase whatever it senses moving but somehow distinguished his hands that winds it so it does not bite him. But the clockwork only runs for six hours before needing winding up again.

The cobra captured is kept in a cage. It is almost feral and sentient. It bites, injecting deathly venom and is animated by the throbbing gem.

Treyvor is experimenting with more versions of explosive gadgets, tripwires, auto-lockpicks and stuff. He has had minimal success and in a similar fashion to creating new spells, will need to invest his coin and time into his ideas.

Konrad's Artificers and Innovative Connoisseurs.

The trio conflabulate regarding further adventure weighed against the research they undertake. Gnimish can commit to join another team,
taking a full share of treasure as he shares the full risk of adventuring. he will gain 1/2 share XP.

Treyvor considers your pitch. "What do you plan to do?"

Merchants and Business
Most of the time he will spend at the town's edge, training his wolfhound Conmhaol to get familiar with his voice and to simple commands like "Stop, wait, come, down, attack" etc.
Dougal can teach some basic whistles to his wolfhound, taking a few tips from the Farrier Falstaff see post #160. It learns to "Come, fetch, stay", basic movement commands.

Silvine has progressed with her sculpture of Face, Hand & Mind', currently detailing the little pyramid held in the palm and under the studious gaze of the visage. Moriartus can be pleased with the result, the gold spent and XP earned with the self tribute. It will be finished and ready for collection on June 6th.

The Axe and Anvil.

Orgoth goes for a final fitting, paying a bit extra to cover the overtime at the forge and any last minute adjustments to the mail.

Here is a review of what was spoken before.
"Saw another dwarf walking the village in some ancient mail, enhanced in properties. I can craft certain unique qualities into the metals over time. But it takes time. Normal made to measure chain, dwarven chain I can hammer out in a month. You being a bit on the larger size might take an extra week. But you are talking thousands for superior wear. But you are supplying some material compounds, so then that reduces costs. But not time.

I will have to think but I can initially quote around 1500gp."

The DMG lists magic chain around 3500gp

Reviewing costs and the initial value estimated for the ingot, he will craft either a Shield +1 for 625gp or Chainmail +1 for 750gp.

"I will take the chainmail. Here is the deposit." He hands over the 100gp and ingot. "When do you think it will be ready?"
So you commissioned the Chainmail +1, on May 22nd and it will be ready for collection on June 22nd. You can pay the outstanding balance of 650gp, 1 ingot.

Sven pumps his fist and nods at Gnim before trying to discern the reason for the Trey’s apprehension as they talk.

“Exploration. Termination. Liberation. Hopefully in that order. You know, wiping out some more regenerating undead, maybe?”

“I have been doing a lot of thinking about searching that maze. It’s huge. And one team down there will take three lifetimes to search it all.”

“I have an idea of where our group would search next, but I am always open for other suggestions. Was there anything specific that you wanted to accomplish if you were to join us again, Treyvor?”

before trying to discern the reason for the Trey’s apprehension as they talk.

Just trying not to make it easy and overwhelm your group with NPC's.

Treyvor responds to Sven.

"The iron cobra. As explained it takes power from the necrotic influence of the Barrowmaze. That must drive other constructs, such as the sapphire skeletons. But to research it properly, we need a laboratory down there.

If that fits in your plans, it might be worth the risk."

Sven breaths a sigh of relief.

“I thought you might have found religion or a good woman or something.”

“You know, one of the plans I have in mind for future maze exploration is to designate a place to set up a permanent, defensible area for long term occupation. If we do find something like that, I don’t see why we couldn’t start setting up a research lab in there too.”

Dougal thanks Falstaff for his help and invites him to a hearty meal at the Brazen Strumpet. 3gp deducted Being one who's trade he's relatively familiar with due to his ranger background, he enjoys having some chatting with the farrier. He says to him he will contract his services for future dog training and will pay whatever fee he charges, once he's back from the next mission.

Durgo

Durgo heads to the inn with the others and gets a room set up..

He then heads to the bowyer and shows him the walnut wood in hopes of seeing about getting a bow made. Durgo provides the material to the bowyer and discusses the work and time needed to make it.

Hail friend bowyer, "What do you think this will cost me in coins. Perhaps you could keep one of the extra pieces for yourself to make one to sell to offset my costs? I've got 3. two of them to use to make my bow, in case one has flaws or breaks when making it."

House of Valeron

Durgo returns to the bowyer, laminates in hand. Lengths of obsidian wood, deeply grained with speckled streaks. He takes the pieces, inspecting them closely. "Finely smoothed, sanded down to reduced drag, quite some fkex in them. Hardwoods but supple." He approves the choice and discusses with Durgo a commission.
He talks shop. A common longbow might cost in the region of 66gp or 110gp for a composite model, to augment one to improve damage output might cost fourfold in materials and labour costs.

Durgo talks bows and arrows. Superior equipment is expensive. You weigh the cost against a minor improvement. Does hitting at a +5% improved accuracy make value for money? What price killing a monster before it kills you? The warrior considers different recommended hardwoods and craft builds and goes away with a few designs and costs to think about.
"I can trim the excess and will need to mould your grip and measure you for size, so you pull the it from the shoulder and it doesn't arc up." he goes through various technical considerations. He can agree to use the extra material to build himself or a third person a bow, deducting both costs off the suggested price. "Seeing as how you have down part of the work, the rest is accruments and stringing. I can adapt some spider silk around woven horse hair or hare tendon to make synthetic, abrasion resistant string and spool a fishing reel with a few yards of length so you can restring when it gets broken.

Take me a couple of weeks, have to finish one or two other cuts first. Call it 200gp seeing as you got the longbow earlier. That will be a fine reserve. And I will add in a quiver of newly fletched arrows."
