He spins and starts working on the wagon wheel.
"Now ifn you don't mind ta be on yer way an leave me be!"
Craxzus notices a key on a piece of leather twine around the mans neck as he stoops and resumes fixing the wheel.
The guard laughs and shakes his head.
"Can't imagine someone trusting you with anything of value, Francis. You seem a little on edge, yeah?"

"Well, he's right. Can't say ol Francis has done anything wrong. Ain't been caught anyway. Got no legal reason to be in his business." the guard says turning to walk down the road. "But I'm the only one here that NEEDS a legal reason to poke around. He hurt my feelings a bit with his attitude. Think I may need some alone time down the road a bit. You all catch up when you're done....helping him with his wagon troubles."

Francis stands with a wooden mallet he was going to use on the wagon wheel. "I knew yous weren't no patrol." he spits. "Bandits by da looks." he looks to where the guard has disappeared over a grassy hill, then back to those before him. "That's why I picked this road, see? Soldiers ain't patrolled the north in a season. Thought ta slip by an head South ta Charlette."
He looks at each of you in the eye then sighs. "Alright den. " he says pulling a pouch from the front of his trousers and opening it. "How 'bout dis. I give ya each some jewelry. Prolly worth... 100 gold each. More den you mercenaries make in a hand full months. You tell her guard all is well. Everyone goes away with smiles. Yeah?" He empty the bag into his palm revealing rings and necklaces of various precious stone and metal. Closer examination would be required to evaluate them. "See? Pretty things. Deal?"

Eirenaios sighs, "Just talk you drunk, we don't care if you are smuggling something in or out, we just need to verify what it is. Surely that is worth less than a 400 gold or a beating by my friend here. Answer his question, open the chest and no harm will come to you"

The chest is indeed locked.
The merchant looks up at Eirenaios with wild, scared eyes. "I'll tell you whatever you want to know if you'll leave me and my stuff alone." he looks over to Throm by the chest and whispers "Please.
They'll kill me if they know. They'll KILL me."
