There is no secret door behind the bookshelf. As now two of you have discovered.

Lubidius does his best to help search the room for traps; he also idly looks over the books; smiling at many of the titles and his eyes pop open when he sees the one with the title; 'A Million Ways To Kill The Rat King'. If he can do so when Alanis isn't paying any attention; he'll slip that book into his backpack....mostly so that the crazed Elf doesn't read the title and go on a rampage; but also, just in case they DO meet a Rat King....

Alanis waits impatiently for Gandrel to finish his searching, once the search is done Alanis says while searching the desk again, "Yes, Yes! Thank you for all your help, the Rat King will..." he stops, holding the small spell book as well as the journal type books, looking back at Gandrel; his face full of confusion, "Rat King? I... My head hurts all of a sudden..." he begins to question something but then his eye return to their maddened state with a shake of his head, he speaks fervently, "Yes, the Rat king! He shall shower you with gifts once I tell him of your dutiful nature!"

As he turns and starts flipping through the books Gandrel could have sworn that his eyes looked almost normal once he questioned himself, no sign of madness for a brief moment in time.

Alanis looks over to Theodore, he head twitching slightly several times before his breaks out into a wide grin and stalks up to the ranger, "What gifts you ask? Why, the greatest gifts of all! Prestige! Bread! Power! Bread! Gold! More Bread!"

Eirik the Just:

At the talk of bread and circuses and Rat Kings, the young paladin politely withdraws from the first room. :)
GreyWolfVT wrote:The search reveals that two of the three doors appear to have some sort of crude trip wire triggered traps. The two thieves locate the wires just under the doors but easily disarm them.
Eirik moved to the second door whose trap had been disarmed. With his holy sword in one hand, pointed to the heavens, he readied himself and then calmly opened the door.

Dune ignores the comments and checks out the personal travel size spellbook or perhaps a personal journal of sorts in the desk.

In the travel sized spell book are some spells:
1st level spell Chill Touch
1st level spell Hypnotism
2nd level spell Darkness, 15' Radius
2nd level spell Ray of Enfeeblement
3rd level spell Delude
3rd level spell Vampiric Touch
4th level spell Fear
4th level spell Evard's Black Tentacles

Eirik opens the next door and it reveals a room with very little furniture in it there is a stone altar in the far end and in the middle of the room a dusty floor with what looks like some sort of arcane runes in a circle on the floor with a familiar symbol to the holy warrior. If you brush away the dust you can make out a large circle in this room that is 15' by 15' square there is this in the middle of the room and a long dried blood stained stone altar.

Dune pockets the spellbook. He enters the new room and instructs the others, Give the pentacle a wide berth. Then he moves to inspect (but not touch) the altar.

Can we get a map please?

Gandrel goes through the large drawers and the right hand drawers looking for anything interesting.

He leaves the left drawers for now.

Gandrel finds some parchment aged fairly well much about as long as a ink well would take to dry out. There is a ring with a skull on it in a smaller drawer. As well as an amulet in another. The larger draws on the other side have an assortment of smaller jars containing odd items like eyeballs in strange liquid and pickled lizards and preserved rodents.

Eirik the Just:

The young paladin slowly entered what he considered the heart of evil. His holy sword in his gentle hand, he approached very near to the circle but did not enter it. He wants the radius of his sword's powers to enter the circle, though.

He said, "Brother Neev, we must sanctify and cleanse this abomination 'ere we leave this place."

Neev

"I am in complete agree-ance with you Sir Eirik. I think though it would be best to explore the remainder of this area so we know the extant of the blasphemy here."

Eirik the Just:

The young paladin nodded at the divine wisdom of Neev and slowly backed from the room.
His holy sword, Ecliss, the Light of Justice, the only lover he'd ever known, was still unsheathed.

Thanks Grey.
Did anything occur when the holy sword's area of effect contacted the pentagram circle of summoning?

Our industrious thieves checked the third door in the hall and found it trapless, correct?
Is that also true of the second door in the first room? Thanks!
