I say we go 15 to 30 minutes away and hide off trail in some trees if possible. No fire, just to stay out of sight while we rest.

Horasday the 6th of Molivios 2993 AEP 10:00 PM

Grabbing extra furs and blankets to keep warm, the party makes off down the path from which they came heading away from the caravan’s encampment leaving the “sleeping” guards bound.

Tell me how far you move away from the caravan and if you move into the woods or stay near the path. Is a watch set by whom? Sunrise will be approximately 8AM.

I am going to post some ideas on rules for outdoor adventuring which I have gleaned from the new Dolmenwood books but I am not going to apply them tonight. Suffice to say, sleeping outdoors in the winter without a fire would be miserable and make it difficult for the characters to rest properly leading to penalties in their adventuring activities. However, since these were not rules which had been posted nor discussed I think it would be punitive to apply them to this situation. I am also going to say that the party moves a mile or so down the path before they veer off the trail into the woods going another half mile (800 yards) into the cover provided by the trees because I was not clear how far you all wanted to go.

Horasday the 6th of Molivios 2993 AEP 11:30 PM

The retreating party moves south along the path for about a mile and then into the woods to the west away from the trail and the river. In the dark the going is slow and it takes them approximately 90 minutes as they move cautiously attempting to hide their tracks as best they can. They find a little hollow where they can lay out bedrolls and their newly acquired furs to rest but do not light a fire for fear the light might alert any pursuers of their presence. Gelli and Octavios take the first watch while the rest of the party bed down for some needed rest. They are relieved by Thargus and Alishar at 2AM who in turn are replaced by Niphos, his manservant Jarvis, and Athena at 4:30 AM. The night passes without incident and Demmesday the 7th of Molivios dawns cold, clear, and without wind. What will the party do as the dawning sun begins to slowly creep in from the east?

Niphos, Thargus, Alishar, Gelli, and Octavios have all earned 192 XP from the prior day’s Feats of Exploration (I will post details for how I calculated as soon as possible; I am encountering an error right now).

Niphon

NIphon sits still as Javess completes the last few swipes of his cold water shave. One he is done the manservant rinses his master's face with a lemon cologne. He turns to Javess. Excellent as always Javess. Niphon stands, slightly ridiculous in a silken dressing gown. Tomorrow night we absolutely must have a fire. I hate a cold shave. He turns to the place where Javess has laid out his clothes and begins to dress. Shall we return to the stairs? That seems safer than trusting ourselves to a lift with enemies above and surer than simply roaming the cliffs and looking for another way.

Wondering if he had not been heard, Thargus concurred - "Yes. Like I said"

"Yes, I think the stairs are the best option."

Gelli

"Sounds like the stairs it is . . ."

Thargus

"Ok, recover your strength and grab breakfast - we depart after" - he nodded.

Caller: We are heading for the stairs

Octavios enjoys the warmth of the sun after a cold night. Wakening from his lengthy reverie over the past few days, he can't not but agree, "The stairs are indeed the best option. Dangerous, no doubt, but i don't want to take my chances in the lift as you say!"

Demmesday the 7th of Molivios 2993 AEP 7:00AM

Alishar has Chromatic Orb, Color Spray, Phantasmal Force, and Light (Darkness) in their spell book please let me know what spell they memorize for the day in addition to the spells for the PCs. Between eating and preparing spells the crew can get moving at 8AM with the sunrise. How will you get back to the long stair?
