Gunnar stops at the smell, then turns around. "Mmm... silver."

Cautiously move into the room. 200 alcoves? Like for ashes? Or are there bones in here...

Approximately 200 alcoves.

There are bones in each one.

"Maybe, uh, one of your priests ought to bless these bones. Or something." Gunnar hesitates. Can he tell where the silver smell is coming from?

Milners shield has a black rooster painted on it btw.
He is cautiously investigating doorways, not to interested in urns n alcoves. He lets his torch flame lick the silvery walls. Perhaps it will flush out another boneless parasite.

As you are peering within, the stone lash, which had been quietly following you, makes an attack on Murq, who by bad luck happened to be near the rear. Fortunately for Murq, though, the attack roll is 5 + 4 = 9, missing him.

Milner puts his torch to the stone lash.
"Someone pour oil on this wierd thing!"
(Roll of 10 + deed 2 = 12 to hit w torch.

While Jonas fumbles through his pack for a flask of oil, Willem will stab at the creature with his spear (or at least where he thinks it will be on the wall.)

[1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18 to hit, [1d8+1] = 7+1 = 8 damage

Although the thing appears to be no more than a lump of wet stone, it is quickly destroyed by spear and fire. However, both spear and torch are ruined in the process by the stone lash's acidic touch.

HP, Jonas, Milner, Murq, and Willem all gain 1 XP.

Milner quickly lights another guttering torch. "Let's keep an eye out for those, eh?"

Areas where the stone is slick with moisture abound in the Barrowmaze, as water leaks in from the moorland.

Willem looks at the ruined spear tip and shudders to think what it would do to flesh. H'ell keep the spear shaft to use as a short pole or staff.

Gunnar feels bold and walks into the room, looking for silver in the alcoves.

Milner trembles a bit as he strikes to flint to light another torch. How many does he have left? He reckons eight. How long has he been down here? He is not sure, even counting by torches burnt, for flames burn weirdly in the dank air. The air feels close, the barrow closes in around. His sword arm itches to exercise itself on the evil lurking, to hack more of these rat beasts down, but his head and heart say this is a suicidal prayer, that death lurks, and besides, fire seems the surer offense in these halls.
Milner marches on. What door is that? Can we open it and see what lies beyond?

There is a scattering of silver coins in various alcoves; Gunnar locates about 150 coins in all.

Once in the room, Gunnar notices that what appeared to be a part of the alcoves on the west wall is actually a passageway that leads west.

Shield out, Milner carefully flares his torch light into the false alcove.

The false alcove seems to go some 30 feet. Just at the range of your torchlight, you see what appear to be stairs going down.

Gunnar notices that the brickwork here seems different than that which comprises the other parts of the Barrowmaze you have been in so far. There is also a scent of gold trickling up from that direction.

Stairs going down...
"Ah, well. Do we dare venture below? Or is this the time to gather our silvers and abscond above, returning with fresh lamps, rags and oil? Perhaps a ratcatcher..."

Any chance we could see an updated map again, sir? Sure is a big help for me.
