The mage maneuvers to within Magic Missile range and then fires at the creature. Casfrea remains at his side.

Re: IC II
Round Three
Quick as lightning, the thing springs towards Newton, slavering jaws opened wide . . . and the scout deftly dodges out of the way, although he is unable to land a hit with his axe. Feargus runs forward, clearing the trees, and sees Newton engaged with some sort of slimy horror, eel-like, spined, and with a pallid, corpse-like hide! Telemachus utters the words to a spell and arcane darts fly forth, slamming into the creature's side with a sickening squelch!

Re: IC II
Gardo
As he clears the trees and hears Newton's alarm, Gardo slows for a moment. "Wulfka! Notai! Whatever this thing is, it shoots spines out. I'll block for you until you fire a round then I'm going in!" Once the women shoot off their arrows, Gardo charges forth to engage in hand-to-monstrosity combat. "Feargus, let's show this creature why it shouldn't challenge us!"
Wulfka & Notai
Following after their fight crazed employer, they hear his instruction. They take a quick glance at each other as they run. Once they clear the trees, they stop behind the shielding Gardo, spot the monstrosity, aim, and release their arrows. They quickly grab another arrow to shoot again.

Re: IC II
Round Three, cont.
Gardo charges in, dealing the creature a cut with his blade and simultaneously dodging its long, serpentine tail as it whips towards his face. Notai and Wulfka are unable to find an opening in the swirling melee.

Feargus
Feargus keeps his shield raised in a block position as he goes for a kill with his mace. "Mind that tail...is that slimy? Oh gross. Don't let it touch you!"

Re: IC II
Gardo
Dodging the tail, he laughs. "Oh, you are going to be sneaky about attacking? Let's have at it then." He dives in for another strike.
Notai
Without an opening, Notai lowers her aim. She quickly looks at the combat then comes to a decision. She looks to Wulfka. "He means well but tries to protect us too many times. We are warriors, not consorts. I will fight by his side. And you?" Switching to spear and shield, she moves with the swiftness of her race to engage the beast, strike, and move out of range of the tail.
Wulfka
Seeing Notai move ahead, Wulfka is conflicted. "I know he said to use arrows but he should know I'm not that good shooting yet and I might hit him or Feargus. Notai.... is not afraid of this thing. And she's right, I am not a consort!" Wulfka pulls out sword and shield and moves forward to strike at the abomination.

Rond Four
With a hiss the creature's wounds look like they are beginning to heal themselves, pallid, glabrous flesh knitting back, but Telemachus sends more magical missiles flying into its side and the rest of the adventurers quickly join the fray. The creature is cut to pieces. Newton is sure this is no natural beast; it reminds him and Telemachus a bit of the creature they slew in Bastion.

Feargus
Feargus raises his arms at Newton and Gardo. "I didn't even get a swing in that time, guys." For good measure he kicks the thing. "Do me a favor, don't tell Mardan. I don't need him thinking you can just rely on your friends to do all the heavy lifting...Maybe the treant weakened it when it fought before. Otherwise it's hard to believe they couldn't take care of this themselves. Regardless, I guess we head back for our 'boon'."

Re: IC II
Telemachus
"You all better stand back. Who knows what sort of toxic fumes may come off this thing."
Telemachus examines the body to make sure there aren't any valuables on it.
Then, the mage removes a flask of oil from his pack, pours it over the corpse, and lights it on fire

Re: IC II
It takes most the rest of the day, but the adventurers are able to harvest what they think are viable parts from the creature. It's disgusting work, for the creature is slimy and covered in a shimmering oil like susbtance. Additionally, its body begins to rot and putrify much faster than normal; blisters of foul, miasmic gas erupt from its corpse.shaidar wrote:Newton
"Hang on. Those tail spikes looked like they were poisoned. We might want to take them, and the poison sack, with us. They might be worth something"
By the time the adventurers are done they harvest the following:
*6 long, hollow quills. They are made of a bone-like, chitonous material, almost like ivory.
*7 ounces of what can only be the creature's venom. It's contained in a sac connected to the quills. Newton isn't sure, but this sort of thing doesn't stay viable for very long. It will probably last for a couple of days, at most, if not transferred to a better container.
*The creature's heart. It's larger than a man's fist, jet black, and hard, almost as if it is made of some sort of cartilage.
Re: IC II
Telemachus
"Well, I guess we can come back here on our way back south and see if killing this demon did the trick or if we need to do more to please the treants."
The mage carefully observes the dammed up area of the river, to see if there's any of the demon's possessions visible, or if it had anything approaching a lair.

Gardo
"While it may not be the best thing right now, shouldn't we see if we can do something to help drain that water? Get some of this foulness away from here at least and hope that upstream is not polluted as well. Might have to have the treants help out a bit."
