No to both. Such a rule is a legacy left over from the wargame mechanics of original D&D. Silvestri is way nicer than me. I would have just put the thought in each of the survivors' minds that the other one was a mortal enemy. I mean, once a person is convinced that someone he thought was his friend is now his mortal enemy, it's not that hard to convince him that someone else—even someone who fought with him against those enemies—is also his mortal enemy.
