Seeing the power and precision behind Lug's massive swing, and recognizing the danger of three more spiders, Orrin moves to strike at the group of smaller spiders, attacking whichever is closest.

{Hand Axe} Attack: [1d20 +1] = 18+1 = 19, Damage: [1d6+1] = 3+1 = 4

Naila draws her dagger and moves to the nearest spider to attack...

dagger attack [1d20] = 2; damage [1d4] = 2

... but stabs aimlessly.

As the spiders hit the ground, Lars moves over to try and dispatch one.

Attack with Longsword: [1d20-1] = 6-1 = 5; damage [1d8-1] = 5-1 = 4
Initiative: [1d6] = 4

Round Two Summary

Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 5

The spiders, having newly surrounded the party, gain the upper hand for a moment, and the water spider takes this opportunity to attempt a full-speed retreat back into the water. Naila manages to get her knife into the creature as it flees, but not deeply enough to finish it off.

Spider vs Naila [1d20] = 18, damage [1d8] = 8

Spider vs Orrin [1d20] = 15, damage [1d8] = 4

Spider vs Lug [1d20] = 11, damage [1d8] = 6

The three other spiders close on the party immediately, fanning out to best advantage. One tackles Naila for 8 points of damage, taking her to the ground with its massive bulk and sinking its venomous pincers into either side of her left leg (save vs poison, please). She is in critical condition and in danger of dying from blood loss regardless of the poison if someone does not intervene soon.

The second spider attempts to end the threat that is Lug, by he brushes the creature away with one ham-hock arm before wading out into the water and plunging his sword into the water spider's retreating back.

The third spider engages Orrin, dealing the stout dwarf a significant blow (4 damage) to his shield arm and injecting him with its fatal venom (save vs poison, please).

Lars attempts to finish off the spider attacking Nail, but is too horrified by the sight of her twitching under the spider's violent care and her massive blood loss, and his swing is ineffectual. Orrin chops me of the legs off his adversary, but it is not enough to finish it.

Spider1: 5 HP
Spider2: 3 HP
Spider3: 2 HP

Saving throws, and then actions/initiative!

save vs poison (13) [1d20] = 20

Naila seems immune to the poison.

8 hp deducted, that puts her at -4 hp

Orrin shrugs off the effects of the poison, but clenches his teeth in pain at the wound in his arm.

Saving Throw vs. Poison (8): [1d20] = 14

Orrin lifts his axe wearily and swings at the weakest of the spiders, hoping to finish it off.

{Hand Axe} Attack: [1d20 +1] = 14+1 = 15, Damage: [1d6+1] = 1+1 = 2

Lars, can you get to Naila in time?

EDIT: slightly confused...is Orrin fighting spider 2 or 3? Just realized he wouldn't break off combat with one to hit another (however much he might want to! ;)

2nd Edit: 4HP deducted.

I'm thinking of instituting a house rule that if you get a natural 20 twice saving against the same toxin, you're just naturally immune to it.

Love it! The house rule that is...not the fact that she is dying.
Lars will stabilize Naila and pull her to safety.

Orrin is fighting spider 2, unfortunately.

Lug once again obliterates a spider with the sheer force of Reason.

Reason (Claymore): [1d20+2] = 16+2 = 18 Dmg: [1d10+2] = 8+2 = 10

The spider attacks were in order, so if Lug survives until is attack he'll be finishing off the very weakest one.

Round Three Summary

Enemy Initiative [1d6] = 5

The spiders attempt to flee. Both Lars and Orrin miss their targets, which scurry back up the wall and into their holes in the ceiling above, leaving a faint trail of ichor behind them. Lars's sword goes skittering from his anxious hand into the shallow part of the pool nearby. As Lug's target turns to flee, he brings the pommel of his sword down on the creature's thorax and means into it, crushing the helpless thing beneath his weight.

Lars vs spider [1d20+1] = 1+1 = 2, damage [1d8-1] = 5-1 = 4
Lug vs spider [1d20+4] = 8+4 = 12, damage [1d10+2] = 6+2 = 8
Orrin vs spider [1d20+3] = 5+3 = 8, damage [1d6+1] = 5+1 = 6

Recovering himself, Lars tends to Naila's injuries to prevent her from dying immediately.

Orrin drops to his knees and rests a hand on Naila's shoulder. He sighs heavily and looks at Lars.

"This can't go on much longer. First you, now her. Let's get Naila out of this place. And let's find out what's been drawing us to this pool and then be done with it."

If we tie the rope around Naila's upper body, can we haul her out?

"Stay away, creepy crawlers!" says Lug.

Do we see any treasure now? What about the armor?

The armored figure is there, lying at the bottom of the pool. Along with plenty of those small gemstones.

Yes, you could haul her up the chute that way.
