0. Prelude
Re: 0. Prelude
Marshal just ran weaving past his allies to get in range of the wizard. He risked himself to get near his fallen ally to heal him if he had a potion and help take down this mage so they can question him.

Petra (15)
Bad Guy (14)
Marshal (7)

Petra rushs to Athriel's side and begins singing a soft melody as she lays her hands on him. Immediately, Athriel begins to feel her health being restored (+4 hp) and is able to return to his feet.
Plutivarch, with Ty draped upon him, slides a dagger sheathed at his waist and attempts to stab at his attacker but misses.
Marshal rushes into the office, weaving past his allies, ending just between the recently risen Athriel and Ty. The half-elf attempts to grapple with the man, who again proves to be too difficult target to take down.

"You can't hope to win!" shouts Petra to their attacker.
"We just need to talk. No one else needs to get hurt. Will you not parlay? "

Ty continues to try and secure the man, knowing that is the only way to get any answers to their questions.

Re: 0. Prelude
Marshal will move to the side of the wizard and try his own luck at grappling him to the ground as he saw the wisdom in keeping their enemy alive so they might discern what he knew...though Marshal already suspected a hidden door somewhere in the room, perhaps near the light. But he was knocked unbalanced by his over eagerness and failed to grab hold.

Athriel pulls his heavy mace from his belt and stands protectively in front of Petra while she attempts to reason with their assailant.

The mage seems to consider Petra's request, as evidenced by his lack of attack. "I am Plutivarch," he states. "Who are you to enter my domicile and demand that I not defend it?"
The arcane caster, while not attacking, does remain defensive, fending off weak grappling attempts from both Marshal and Ty.

Re: 0. Prelude
Petra looks to relax a bit. "Thank the gods. I surely didn't want to taste your arcane darts, Plutivarch."
She approaches the defensive mage slowly, keeping a fair distance so they both feel safer.
"I am Slovan Diovichi. I represent the...interestes of House Fortuna of Varisia. A girl of great value to them...a niece, has gone missing and the head of said family fears abduction. If this is so, they will pay handsomely for her return. You look to be a man of importance. ..I assume you know of what I speak?"

Re: 0. Prelude
As soon as it is obvious the man is done fighting, Ty steps back and gives him space. Embarrassed by his inability to pin the man down, he doesn't say anything, letting Petra do the talking.

Re: 0. Prelude
Athriel relaxes his guard but not completely. He moves out of Petra's way as she approaches the man, keeping him in sight at all times.
Re: 0. Prelude
His opponents seemingly calling for a truce, Plutivarch cautiously takes a defensive step backwards as Petra approaches him. He eyes her suspiciously. "I know not of what you speak," he says wearily. "Ply your silver tongue some more. Perhaps we can make some soft of arrangement that will allow everyone here to leave her tonight unscathed."
"A missing girl, you say?"

Re: 0. Prelude
You are wise as you are perceptive, Plutivarch." Petra says turning her back to him in a show of trust. She bends at the waist and sets her pack down.
"A girl...a young woman actually. Quite ripe for abductors, I'm sure. But you see,"
The witch gives him her sadest smile, "This girl is betrothed to the son of another great family. A happy union, to be sure. Her fiance is no doubt making his own attempts at finding her. So you see, wise Plutivarch. The man who aids us in finding his beloved would benefit from both great families. Perhaps find a place in their employ. Much more noble work than acting as a lookout or signalman...that IS what you were doing here, yes? "

Re: 0. Prelude
Plutivarch listens as Petra continues on about a missing girl and wryly suggests that they talk to the city watch. "They’re the ones who are supposed to be watching over they city, after all—shouldn’t they know why citizens have been disappearing?" he states, clearly not being completely forthcoming.
"Is there a reward for this missing girl?" he asks.

Re: 0. Prelude
"You are intelligent to ask me questions I've already answered. Assuming I'll slip up? I assure you. There is no fine print or hidden agenda to my mission. As I said, the family I represent are willing to pay handsomely for their nieces safe return. What was the candle in the window for, Plutivarch? Won't you help me?"
Re: 0. Prelude
Plutivarch chuckles. "Clearly, my intelligence has found an equal." he says, eyeing Petra. "This niece, she wouldn't have been kidnapped by some Nidalese slavers, would she?" he asks.
"And, oh, the light..." he says, gesturing with his hands and uttering some vaguely familiar words, he creates the dancing lights again. "They look like a lantern or a torch, no?"

At this, Ty glances over at the candle, then walks over to it and tests the wax just under the wick to see if it is still melted or warm to the touch.

Re: 0. Prelude
"Indeed impressive master Plutivarch." The witch nods.
"And while your ...abode is quite...nice, I hardly feel its worthy of one so gifted. You mentioned Nidalese slavers...do you think they are responsible for the abductions? Surely if such knowledge were made available to my lord, he would be pleased and generous. I'm sure he could find use of someone with such insight. Will you not speak more of it?"
