The party strings out on the narrow stone stairs as they circle down. As quietly as they can be, they can't help but make some noise and it reflects back at them as spooky echoes coming up from below. The flickering torches cast weird shadows along the dry and dusty walls of rough cut stone.

After circling twice they reach the landing about half way down. The landing is wide enough for four to stand, and so the rest are arranged up the stairs waiting.

The stone landing here is also dry and thick with dust. The door is wooden and closed. There is a keyhole on the door, no key and a metal handle. Metal hinges at top, middle and bottom show on this side of the door, so you think it must swing toward you This will be a problem for those crowded on the landing.

The stairs continue down toward what you can now see is the bottom where dark corridors lead off to the east and west.

Everyone roll 1d20+INT

[1d20+18]=8+18=26 (or 11 if INT modifier)

Fergus

[1d20+13]=7+13=20 (or 8 if INT modifier)

Int roll (Int=12) [1d20]=14
I wasn't sure if you meant Int or Int bonus. If Int it is 26 if Int bonus it is a 15.

Assuming we are rolling vs a certain DC with Int (12) bonus (+1):

Int: [1d20+1]=3+1=4

OOC: When I ask for d20+INT or WIS or whatever, I mean the modifier, not the raw score. Sorry. :)

Ulfgar and Naugrim each recall a ring of keys back in the Priest's office. Now, who picked them up and added them to their gear?

Ulfgar has them. I listed them under his Gems and Jewelry Inventory.

Ulfgar thinks one of those keys might open this door....

Ulfgar will take the keys and try them all to see if any fit the door.

Ulfgar goes through four keys before he finds the right one, but it works! The sound of tumblers seems unnaturally loud in the quiet of the circular shaft, but the door opens.

Looking inside you see a short corridor leading to an open, but dark, space. It is Far enough away that you will have to move forward to see what is beyond. Looking at the corridor it has a stone floor, walls and ceiling, well cut and fitted. There is dust on the floor, unmarked by tracks. The air coming out of the open space beyond the door smells musty and stale.

Ulfgar moves in to make way for the others and to get a better look where this leads.

Naigrim stays close behind Ulfgar, both their torches illuminating the space.

As Ulfgar and Naigrim lead the way the rest of the party follows. You enter a short corridor that opens into a large hall. You can see three rows of long wooden tables in the hall with benches along both sides.

Or there would have been 3 rows of tables and benches if two of them hadn't been turned over!

A number of dead bodies lie scattered around the hall, most of them near the far end where there is an open door. From where you stand it looks like the people here were rushing toward the door when they died. From here you can't tell how they died.

Along the north wall there is a open double door probably leading to another space. The south wall is flat stone with several sconces each holding burned out torches. More burned out torches in sconces can be seen on the north and east walls. You don't hear anything, nor detect any movement in the room ahead.

"Did they set off a trap or were they fleeing from someone or something that killed them?"

He will inspect the closest body and see if he can determine cause of death.

"Unlikely they came from the way we are, if the trapped door at the top was unable to be opened. So, perhaps something from here?" Naugrim lifts his torch higher and peers through the northern open doors.

"Can you tell how long ago they died?" Fergus asks the dwarf.

OOC: Hard to say, but not recently is your guess. They show signs of fire damage and the walls around the door they were crowding toward is ringed with blackened stone.

Erlthal takes a look at the bodies, then readies his bow and stands watch.

"Unlikely they came from the way we are, if the trapped door at the top was unable to be opened. So, perhaps something from here?" Naugrim lifts his torch higher and peers through the northern open doors.

Naugrim sees what looks like a kitchen through the open northern doors. There is another door leading further north in the kitchen. This door is open and hanging from it's hinges. He can see a set of stone stairs leading up from behind that door....and something more! There is what looks like a dead body on the floor of the kitchen and it looks like more on the stairs through the open door. No, something about them...

Naugrim sees the pile of bones begins to stir and rise. The ones on the stairs begin to klick and clank they rise as well. Bits of flesh and rotting clothing falls off these undead as they start to rise!
