Also, if you want to see a live combat encounter from start to finish, check out the Expedition to Kraka Grak, Spring 668 thread. Starting at message #14 and going to #53 is the Ogre encounter. That'll give you a good picture of the group, and how we operate, too.

I have to say it looks a bit daunting at first sight, but I will get a better grasp as we move ahead I am sure.

So lets get this started, Following the CharGen rules

Choose a Race:
Elf

Choose a Class:
Swordmage

Choose Alignment
Neutral

Pick a Feat/Special Ability if Human. Other races have their abilities paid for by this choice. Elf means:
Elven Racial Abilities
You are an Elf, one of the graceful, undying Eldar.
Your only class options are Swordmage or Spellthief. You remain first level until you have gained 4000xp instead of 2000xp , and may not advance beyond level 10. You may only have Elves as henchmen, though see below.
Immortal Spirit
:
Add +1 to Saving Throws vs Magic and Death.
You are immune to non-magical paralysis including that caused by ghouls.
Add an additional +1 to all Saving Throws vs Charm and Sleep effects.
While healing magic works normally on Elves they may not be raised from the dead by mortal magic.
Elven Senses:
Add +1 to all initiative, surprise, perception and search rolls.
Elves are always considered alert even when seemingly asleep or distracted and take no penalties to their sensory rolls for those reasons.
Fae Grace:
All Elves have an additional +1 to Dexterity subject to normal restrictions.
Friend of the Wilds:
Elves have a natural affinity for wild places and things. They get no bonus for this but they ignore penalties from unfamiliar environments and can have magical or faerie creatures as Henchmen.

Pick a Skill
Hunter

Customize Gear
TBD, but planning on versatility with a ranged weapon and a melee weapon

Spend 10 Shillings
Again TBD.

So my abilities bonuses (if I understood correctly), would be something like:

Str +0
Dex +1 (from Elf)
Con +1 (my choice)
Int +0
Wis +0
Cha +0

___

Am I on the right track? :)

That all looks good. You will need to choose an Elven Secret as well.

If you want to be a Rogue/Mage we had a player make just such a thing and then have to drop. Its called an Elven Spellthief.

Elven Swordmages and Spellthieves are identical in terms of HD, SD and magic ability. They differ in that Swordmages have access to nearly all weapons and armor (Can be Well-Armed) while Spellthieves have Thievery (2 bonus skills) but are limited to being Lightly-Armed (no heavy weapons, no shields, no longbows).

The choice is yours. Old school D&D doesn't need party balance and there are never too many front line fighters in a group. :D

Also, try not to get freaked out by the Corvid Necromancer and her skeletal retinue. We're really nice, we swear...

I think I am now convinced I will be Swordmage ;)
But I was looking into the Secrets, and cannot find a description of Bladesong in the gdoc - am I looking in the wrong place?

You may find, from time to time, that something is missing from the document. Please yell at me when this happens as it occurs for one of two reasons: No PC ever needed it or I forgot about it. :D In either case its an easy thing to fix.

Bladesong (1 SD): When casting a spell or fighting in melee combat enemies have -1 to Hit you with all attacks so long as you have at least 1sp remaining.

Sorry I’ve been slow. I have a pinched nerve in my back and things are taking longer than expected. I am working on advancing the dungeon next.

Big storm coming through Boston tomorrow. Hopefully we won’t lose power and I can catch up.

Thank you and my condolences. Things have improved.

What can I do to onboard you and help with the waiting?

Oh, so I realized there was treasure in this room and forgot to give it to you. But I also can't find it so I have to re-generate the hoard. Its not much but it is mostly cash.
