A simple journey
Re: A simple journey
Turnip waits for the others' opinions before she hires the hunter.
"Arngeir, Algrim, do you like...find your way in the forests?"

Arngeir

Re: A simple journey
Both Algrim and Arngeir have good Survival (64) and Algrim also has OK Foraging (52). Idril has Coooking and Herblore which are both useful. No one has Hunting, but Algrim is excellent with his crossbow if a shot presents itself. Foraging opens on first use at SBx2.

Arngeir nods
"Agreed. See what we see. If need longer then return."

Re: A simple journey
The hunter explains how to get there. "The side trail is up the Genin trail heading NW from Meldrun, between 2 and 2 and a half hours walk. Then take the side trail heading N/NE, Darcen ruins is about another hour of walking."
A couple of notes from what you knew and have learned, the Genin Trail is actually an unpaved road, well used and maintained. The trail to Darcen is a true trail, not maintained anymore but still fairly easy to find. You are in, but on the northern edge of the Ulmerian Valley, when you turn N to Darcen you will be heading up a small valley into the foothills. the land rolls some through here but you traveled in this way the day before and the elevation change to the Darcen side trail is only about 500 feet. The area you will be traveling through is mixed forest (50%+ treed) hills. On trail you will be able to make a league an hour, off trail half that. A league is about 2.5 miles.

Turnip
"I guess that's that then. Let's leave early tomorrow morning, shall we?"
She pauses.
"One more thing. The best way to fight is to not be around in the first place. We either need to stay quiet or stay deadly. I know which one I prefer. I don't want my eyeballs gouged by a Vlasta, you feel me?"

Arngeir cocks his head and looks at Turnip
"Will not run from fight. All die, sometime. Sarajin teaches the point is the how. But am no fool, either."

Re: A simple journey
Turnip seems at least content with that answer.
"Okay, sounds fair. And I know Khuzans are born in plate. Okay, okay. And maybe Idril can cast a spell and make us invisible or something."
She seems to think harder.
"I think we got this. Really, the wildlings will be our biggest threat. If they come in numbers, we're done, invisible or not. So we still need to lay low."

Idril's Updated Shopping
She looks surprised when Turnip suggests she has the power to turn the party invisible, but quickly covers it with an expression meant to convey mystery and competence (but probably comes off as contempt).
(I really need to learn what her rituals actually do!)
- Pack Goat & tackle, 22d
- Salt, quarter pound, 0.25f
- Wine, 1 gallon, 10d
- Copper pan, 12d
- Lentils, dried 1 lb, 2f
- Oatmeal 2 lbs, 2f
- Sack, linen 2f

Re: A simple journey
Arngeir looks sideways at Turnip, then towards Idril and Algrim.
"Only have a few coins left, none for beer." he looks disappointed "Maybe time now to share out some of pennies we found? Or use to buy what we need for journey?"

Re: A simple journey
Turnip was not part of finding the silver, so she's not aware of it, only the items you showed her.
Re: A simple journey
That's why I only mentioned the pennies and not how many

Re: A simple journey
Idril shrugs. "We have food, we have a goat. What else do we need? I say we save our pennies for later. They are not minted from coals—they will not burn a hole in your pocket."
Re: A simple journey
Ok I think we're set to start travelling the next morning!

Everyone awakes early, eats breakfast and heads along the Genin trail heading towards the Darcen side trail. Nothing eventful happens and you get to the side trail no problem. You rest for a short while and have a snack before moving north up the Darcen trail. You move slower, keeping more alert and looking for any sign. You start seeing, the ruins of foundations and wells about midday that tell you that you have arrived in Darcen. You do a quick look around and there are no standing buildings, just the foundations. It looks like a fortified manor on top of a rock out crop in a small side valley. There are some game trails heading out from the ruins. Looking around You spot a marker, at the north edge of the village, maybe 4 feet high, 4"x4", very worn but you think it once has runes on it that have worn off. A Dwarven mile marker.

Idril rolls a skill improvement for Alertness for her CF. She is the only one who missed the marker.

Re: A simple journey
Turnip sits down to rest for a bit, right next to the marker.
"Right where they said it would be. What does it say, Algrim?"
After catching her breath she will snoop around the marker, looking at the ground in let's say a 10 yard radius centered at the marker. The marker is the only thing that catches the eye out here? No holes in the ground?

Algrim takes a gander at the marker and attempts to read it.

Re: A simple journey
Algrim looks and feels the marker. It is weather worn but he think it marks a trail, outpost ahead.
