Grimm

The dwarf takes a deep breath and enjoys the views. Then his gaze lays on the yet higher cliff wall. "Oh. There's some climbing to do if we want to scout further."

Good luck to Marge

Luther
I ain't the person to build it, but I've seen some places where they built walls to direct winds into tunnels and such. You ever help with something like that, Grimm? It would be a good way to clear the stench.
Luther looks around, trying to get a sense of the size of the ledge. Are there any easier ascents from the beach?

I'd assume he has, being a dwarf and all, but I'll wait for the DM's call.

Chauncey glances around and sees he’s been abandoned with the “mess.”

Irritated, he strides to the entrance of the room and yells up to the hole in the ceiling. “Since you have needlessly suspended two ropes from your escape hatch, could you please return mine? I require it in order to properly clean up this putrid mess. Alone. By myself,” he says with no small amount of petulance.

Sir William Narramore

Narramore stifles a smile at the feminine thundercloud stomping toward him and waves her past. "Seek your answers inside, milady." He glances at the hilt of his sword. "I fear my sword is too far up my backside to be of any use to you." He winks at the men and resumes his vigil.

Wake

Wake calls down to Chauncey "Posing and whining are not good looks for you Chauncey. If you have a plan communicate it and I will be happy to help. Make sure to communicate your idea quickly and keep it straight to the point."

Chauncey directs a withering gaze up to the hole in the ceiling.

“The plan is: could you please be so kind as to consider, with all due haste, if it’s not too much trouble, the following, being a point which I believe I communicated quite clearly: to return my rope. I will take care of the rest. With magic,” he says. “The timer is, as it were, ticking.”

Wake

Wake silently unties Chauncey's rope and tosses it down the hole, leaving his rope still attached. As he throws it down he says with a forced smile "As requested, here is your rope friend. I was offering to help, but if you would rather talk down to me then listen so be it." He stands back up and looks to Luther and says "Luther this is your party, what is next since Chauncey is taking care of the cave with magic.", the last word he says while shaking his hands.

She looks impressed. Can you do that? It would be an amazing sight!
ChubbyPixie wrote: Thu Sep 02, 2021 12:39 pm"...It so happens I have prepared just the thing."
Liam grins and pats the wizard on the back. Well done! I knew having a trained wizard would be good luck for us! That is simply amazing to see!
With a man of your talents here with us, we will make outstanding progress in this venture. Good show, Man! Good show! Keep this up and people will be telling stories about what you've done here for decades. Who knows, maybe your's will be a name in the history books.

He then turns and looks to Luther at the idea of fishing the cavern. You know. that is not a bad idea. Maybe there are fish under there... Could we rig something like a snare to pull them up when they take the bait? Maybe we could set them up in all these holes and just check and rebait them periodically.

Not giving the brazen newcomer another thought, Chauncey takes up the rope and marches back into the cave.

Once inside, he secures one end to a stalactite or other stone outcropping, the other securely to the creature.

He then casts Reduce again, hoping to draw the rest of the creature up through the hole.

Thrice Explored Hag Cave
Around Noonish

Luther smartly looks around for something to build a wind catch over the hole in the roof, but finds no building materials at hand. The beach below the cave can be accessed by climbing down the rock face, or jumping the 25 feet to the sand. Grimm thinks the wind funnel could actually work, if they had the means to build something.

Wake and Chauncey have a rather terse discussion about ropes and magic before the wizard adequately walks away from the conversation, leaving the others up above to their sightseeing while he gets to the dirty work. The mage uses his rope to secure the rotting carcass before beginning a second round of reduction magic.

Liam hears Marge coming long before he sees her. He tries to encourage the mage doing all the work as much as possible, knowing their tongue lashing is coming if they don’t get something done in here. Chauncey’s second spell is equally effective in shrinking the mess another 40%, making the dead carcass much easier to deal with. He notices that the cage lid has been ripped from its hinges and is no longer attached to the stone floor.

Marge struts into the cave without another word to Narramore. By the time she reaches the water chamber, she is in full throat. “What is this now! And where is that stench coming from? Oh, good heavens! What is THAT? And where is everyone else?” She looks up into the hole, seeing the gawkers peering down. “Well would you look at that. Some of us must be more concerned with keeping up their suntan then doing any real work? Would you like us to hand you up some pillows and blankets so you can have a nap while the rest of us clean up the mess down here?”

Luther
Luther pauses, takes a breath, and then says what he was thinking anyway.
Ma'am- you and your folks came here to clear the land and build a new town. I came here to explore and make sure that there isn't anything that's going to slaughter you and your people.
Excuse me while I get back to my job.

He walks away before she can reply.

Wes

After Luther walks away, Wes takes his turn to explain something to Marge.

"Marge, the reason you're free to stand in that cave right now, talking about people living in it, is because I killed the creature that used to live in there."

"Go and take a look at all the severed heads on the wall outside to see what that creature was capable of."

Then Wes too turns his back, and goes to throw a rope down to Narramore. "And if you ask me," he says to anyone within earshot, "it's still too dangerous to live in. Riddled with holes in the floor? You'd as well take your chances in the jungle".

Sir William Narramore

When the rope tumbles down, Narramore will give it a tug. "All secure?" Assuming he hears an affirmative response, the knight will grip the rope in his bear paws and hoist his bulk up the cliffside, finding footholds where possible and using brute force otherwise.

Liam

Nods. I have seen what I need to here and for the time being agree with Wes. This cave needs too much work to be of use tonight.
I will head back outside and see what help I can offer there. We will need shelter before nightfall.

That being said he will also use this as an excuse to try to defuse the situation and escort Marge back outside. Marge dear, could you offer me your thoughts on where we should begin constructing some shelters? I was thinking some lean-tos along the cliffs for tonight that could then be used as walls for larger structures tomorrow...

Chauncey, wearing his homemade rubber gloves, smiles politely at Marge and nods. "Someone who recognizes aptitude and worth. Madame. Now, about this bloated mass..."

He then regards the significantly reduced stinking mass. While now much more manageable, it is still unwieldy at best, and, though smaller, still putrid. He'd likely get stank on his new jorts if he tried to heave it out. No, this would require a less hands on method, rubber gloves or no.

Dismissing for a moment the mysterious, unfathomable force that hold all things to the ground, the wizard Levitates the mass into the air a few feet, unties the other end of the rope and pulls it gently out, positioning it under the hole in the ceiling. He will then cause it to rise, rope still attached, up and out. (If the size of the hole doesn't permit this, he'll do the same but out the front door, elevating it up the rock wall so someone on top can grab it.)

He yells up the hole. "Luther! Someone! Would you be so kind as to run this eastward as far as you might in the next 30 minutes or so, then position it over the cliff edge so that, when it returns to normal size and loses its buoyancy, it will plummet harmlessly into the ocean? If you are headed that way. It would be much appreciated."

Thrice Explored Hag Cave
Early Afternoon

As if he had done it hundreds of times before, Chauncey handles the dirty work like a pro. He lifts the carcass with his magic and essentially walks it out of the cave complex by the rope like a child might carry around a balloon. For the first time since you’ve known her, Marge remains totally silent, watching in awe as the wizard does his thing.

The city wizard suggests flushing the dead beast into the ocean and Narramore climbs the outside cave wall to see that the task is done to his satisfaction. Marge appears thoroughly impressed with the quick results, but interjects eventually.

“Damn Chauncey! That woulda taken me and three others all afternoon to chop up and carry outta here. I don’t think we should just toss it out though. Anything that funky has got to make fer some real good fertilizer. Maybe set it over there in the shade and we’ll build a mulch pile around it.”

The others mill about the top of the cave in the scorching sun finding nothing of interest. The cliff wall stretching high above them to the north looks nearly impossible to climb, while the path leading east looks accessible. In fact, any elves looking off in the distance along the cliff line spot movement, possibly from a small group of people heading this way, though still many miles away.

Luther
Luther takes the rope, ready to haul the mess to the ocean. When Marge makes her suggestion, he nods.
Gotta get down first, but that's a damn good idea.
Luther scrambles down to ground level, hauling the muck with him. If the Levitation will support him, he'll hang from it and climb down. If not, he's hoping it will at least break his fall.
