He will then spring to the side of the tunnel and attempt use one of his neglected thief abilities, hide in shadows:
Hide in Shadows 25:[1d100] = 17
He crouches down and waits for the spider to pass, (assuming he comes near enough) at which point he will spring out and attempt a backstab:
Broadsword backstab, to hit (thac0=18): [1d20+4] = 19+4 = 23, damage vs s/m: [2d4] = 6, damage vs l: [1d6+1] = 4+1 = 5
Backstab damage is times 2, so vs sm/med = 12 and vs l = 10

Lipput rolls his eyes in a silent curse that he can never have a moment of rest and peace and quiet; and then draws his sword and picks up his shield as he waits to see whatever might be coming their way before just charging in and attacking the unknown.... however his brothers do exactly that; so he just sighs and attempts to see what manner of trouble they have gotten themselves into THIS time....

Day 1, Turn 11 - Near the Shaft


The brothers scamper and move about to get in position by the recesses' entrance. The sounds of movement grow louder and nearer.

click-clack, click-clack, CLICK-CLACK...

Pol edges outside the entrance and crouches, leaning against the pipe wall to make himself as unseen as possible.

click-clack, click-clack, CLICK-CLACK, CLICK-CLACK, CLICK-CLACK, CLICK-CLACK, CLICK-CLACK...

Soon he sees the approaching creature and restrains the urge to cry out a "Oh sh*t!".

The bulk of another giant green giant, slightly larger than the previous one, comes into view. Just as it is passing by the hole on the pipe where most of the brothers are hidden...

Surprise: [1d6] = 3

...it shifts its body suddenly to face them. Alas, the creature is not surprised by the ambush the half-orcs laid for it.




Round 1

Party Initiative: [1d6] = 2, Monster Initiative: [1d6] = 6

Segments: Huge Spider 2nd, Theket 5th, Party 6th


Despite having an arrow nocked on his bow Theket hesitates from some reason...Ull advances to strike at the arachnid but the creature is faster than him...

Huge Spider attack: [1d20] = 5, Damage: [1d6] = 4

...and launches its mandibles at the half-orc, however Ull deftly avoids the strike and slips through the spider's defenses to shove his magical shortsword in its underbelly. Then Pol emerges from his hiding position and with a scream attacks the thing's abdomen from the rear. The cut slices deep and bursts the sack-lack posterior of the overgrown spider. As foul ichors and organs stream forth from the open gash it tumbles to the side and expires.


Round 1 Ends - Combat Ends


Two spiders in one round each. Well played folks. Btw, if you declare an attack, or that you are readied for an attack please remember to make the required hit/dmg rolls, or it won't take place.

Ull feels relieved that he doesnt have to continue the fight. He goes back toward the enclave. Can I get some !#$%^ rest? Oh, whichever of you have watch, might want to see if there are more of 'em...

Ok so I take it the party is camping down. How long do you want to rest? Normal 8 hour-ish rest for everyone or do you want to rest a full day?

For some reason I thought there was a time limit on the lens retrieval, but after looking back I dont see one. So...Ull would prefer to rest a day and recover some hit points.

Day 2, Turn 1 - Near the Shaft/Alcove


Ok, we'll go with a full day of R&R.


With a roster for watches set up the brothers settle down for a merited rest. Throughout the long hours the snores of sleeping half-orcs resonate in the alcove. When everyone is feeling more recuperated (and assume about a day has gone past, hard to tell underground) they start getting ready to depart. The snores have been replaced by a different type of noises now...rumbling bellies. The party has no provisions and none have eaten anything in slightly over a day. The pangs of hunger are beginning to be felt.

The good news is that everyone is feeling haler now...some more then others



Hit points restored

Lipput: 4

Onn: 3

Theket: 5

Ull: 1

There is no mechanical consequences for the level of hunger that the half-orcs are feeling right now. A day or so more without food may be different. Thirst will become a life-threatening problem well before hunger, of course.

At 4 hour intervals during their rest, the brothers are startled by strange retching and chanting noises coming from Pol. He seems to be somewhere else, eyes rolled back in their sockets, spittle flying from his lips as he rocks back and forth with his knees pulled to his chest. Each of these outbursts is followed by Pol springing up and furiously attacking each of his brothers in turn. After which... they feel better. Strange are the ways of the Dark Ones who Fester in the Unlit Places (Spewing Filth).*

Ull looks around at his lazy brothers, and finally blurts out...Come on, guys. That lense aint finding itself. And I aint getting any fatter sitting around watching you sleep.
He will grab his gear and start slowly heading down the pipe...

Day 2, Turn 2 - The Second Shaft


The party advance, leaving the day-old corpses of the spiders behind, and soon comes to a bifurcation of sorts. On the bottom of the pipe a new 10-foot diameter shaft descends into reeking darkness. Peering down the brothers can see no bottom. Instead the shaft seems to end in mid air. The pipe the half-orcs are one continues beyond the hole in the same direction for as far as can be seen.

Theket looks around for a rock or other piece of debris to drop down the pipe.

What says the group? Do we climb down the 50'er and see if we hit bottom? or do we figure out away around it? (Is there a easily walkable way around this hole, or a chance we fall in?
