Hlalf begins climbing the steps. Muttering to himself:

North Speak:
Words wasted, small people should mean less breath to use.

Saal will make haste for the door, beckoning Raamiz for assistance.

As no rope presents itself, Fiemar shrugs and then follows Hlalf upwards, pulling himself up riser by riser as if he were mountaineering back home. He confides to Hlalf quietly in Coldspeak as they go.
"You're right - we're in our third hour at this size, now. Let us hope the thieves can open the door. I am concerned that the city wizard shows he doesn't understand magic... His anger seeks selfish uses, which leads to evil ends. We may need to help avoid such ruin as it would affect us all."

Shmehk

Looks at Fiemar and Aurs

"What? Once again, I'm somehow expected to provide all the equipment. You wanted an alternative, I made a suggestion."

He shrugs and climbs up and catches up with Raamiz.

Raamiz nods and shrugs a coil of rope off his shoulder. "Here. Be careful, though--you don't want him to wake before he's tied! Have you given any thought as to how to free him once we are finished?"

Shmehk shakes his head

(Low Lankhmarese)
"Don't worry about the cat, let's focus on getting that door open"

Fiemar thanks Raamiz for the offer of rope. "As for untying the cat, we aren't done until we are rightly sized, at which point it is far less of a problem," he replies in Low Lankhmarese. He makes no move to tie up the cat alone, however.

Shmehk, Hlalf, and Saal all have posted to be urgent at getting up to the door. It was assumed that Raamiz also was getting up there urgently to help Saal. That leaves Fiemar, who follows, deferring to Shmehk on the issue.

If Raamiz has priority on the cat, then Fiemar will aid him in tying up the beast expediently. Assuming that trussing a large predatory animal is sufficiently outdoorsy, Fiemar has a 1d24-1. If Raamiz and his rope offer a +1D and his attribute bonus, then that becomes [1d30].

So, choice to Enoch. If Raamiz wants to tie up the cat, I'll let Enoch say so and make the roll to expedite the actions. If he goes up to help Saal with the door as the priority, then we leave the cat alone.

I seriously don't care who ties the cat up. Raamiz doesn't want the cat mistreated, but his interest is in getting the door unlocked--unless there's enough of a gap at the bottom that we can fit under at our current size?

Okay, I'll take that as "Raamiz doesn't stay to help tie up the cat."
That means we leave the cat and all move up to address the door.
Move us onward, GM! :)

I suspect it's time to move on. Group consensus is rp not tie the cat. There is far too much eye rolling going on right now.

When you get to the top of the stairs, please make a DC 6 stamina roll, or take 1 point of temp stamina damage.

You must also resolve the question of light. Who will carry it?

As a side note, this is the part of the adventure where the characters would decide if they want to continue interacting with each other after this adventure. The meta assumption is that you *will* find common ground, but if players are too abrasive, we will vote them off the "island". There's no such thing as "my character is the jerk"... your character is not doing the typing.

DC 6 Stamina [1d24] = 21

Climbing the risers is far more regular and expedient than normal mountaineering; Fiemar wastes little time in hoisting himself along side Hlalf after the cat is left behind.

Once they reach the top landing, he produces a torch and his flint and steel from his pack and lights it. (-1 torch) He holds it aloft next to the oversized tools so that Saal and Raamiz can see to do their work.

Excellent, Saal intends to pick the lock with the help of the tool and Raamiz, if he is willing. Should I make a check?

Stamina [1d20+1] = 4+1 = 5
Hit to Stamina, now at 13.

Following the group and trusting cat is not an issue.

Saal's stamina check:

stamina check [1d20] = 12

Stamina Test: [1d20+1] = 8+1 = 9

Hlalf grunts as he clears the top step, then leans over to lend a hand to whoever needs it. He takes out his tinderbox and lights a candle which he holds in his left hand, where his shield is strapped. He knows that if he needs to use it to defend himself the candle will need to be dropped.

Shmehk takes the offered hand as he seems to be having a diffcult time climbing the steps:

Stamina test: [1d20+1] = 2+1 = 3

(Northspeak)
"Thank you Hlalf"

He takes a moment to catch his breath and take in the area. When he sees Hlalf light his candle he stops and smacks himself on the forehead with the palm of his hand and mutters to himself in Kvarchish
"Shmehk you utter fool, you'll forget your head next!"
He starts to rummage in his backpack, and pulls something out from right at the bottom. Unrolling a rag he shows 5 torches to Hlalf

(Northspeak)
"I'd forgotten I had these"

He offers one to the large northman and lights one himself from the man's candle.

Now that the others have lit torches as well, Fiemar nods solemnly. "Good, more light. I am concerned about the cat... I'll keep guard over it as you continue."

Sorry that I've rubbed others the wrong way. I think this is an ill-fit. I'll send Fiemar down to watch the cat and step out of the game. Thanks for the opportunity to try it out!

Thanks for playing, Marullus! I enjoyed the owl :)

Alright... tentative retcon, given this development. When the cat was put to sleep, Fiemar was smashed by the cat's falling body. He bounced down the stairs like a rag doll and was killed. He lays at the bottom of the stairs, next to the body of the pigeon.
