This is Ron's action for Round 2, and he is armed and standing for Round 3.

Go ahead and roll initiative and declare your action for Round 3.

EDIT: I forgot his autoblaster for Round 2. That attack will occur at the beginning of Round 3.

Yes. The glassy staff is the only evidence of your encounter. All else has vanished.

Zhym wrote:"It seems the pigmonn were an illusion; phantasms created to give our foes an opportunity to attack while we were distracted," ventures Kurot. "I would admire their cleverness had Blixx not died from it."

He inspects the black, glassy staff, trying to remember how the wild haired man activated it.
An Artifact Roll is required. Kurot's is 1d20+6-5 => 1d20+1

For every person who assists Kurot (With an Intelligence above 12), a +1 modifier may be added. The maximum number of collaborators is 4, so the maximum mod for this is +4.

Once rolled, check the results against this table:

Table 7-1: ARTIFACT CHECKS

What are the +6 and -5 modifiers? Do we get any bonus for having seen the staff in use?

+6 is the character's Artifact Roll (Class modifier + INT modifier)
-5 is the complexity level of the artifact

There is none listed. I imagine the character's Class modifier covers this.

If the character concentrated on multiple uses of the object, I would allow a bonus akin to being taught by a user. This attack happened quick, so you were only able to determine generalities.

Silvestri will apply his humongous intellect and assist with the examination of the artefact.

Denslow will not assist. He will act as if he hates the technology that killed his companion but really it’s because he’s a bit slow.

if we can learn more about it we can use it against those 3, hopefully stop them leaving if we come across them again.

Actually, Silvestri should take the lead with others assisting him. (His Artifact roll is +10)
Silvestri would roll a base 1d20+10-5 => 1d20+5. It can go up to 1d20+9 if he is assisted by four others with an INT 13 and above.

I forgot to adjust it after he improved his INT. Character Sheet is updated

looks like we have 3 others with the INT to assist:

Kurot
Frank
Ron

As much as it will pain Kurot to acknowledge a superior intellect, he'll hand the staff over to Silvestri to investigate. And he'll assist.

OK. Silvestri's roll is 1d20+8 and it will take 30 minutes of game time to perform the artifact check.

here goes, let's hope I have some better luck on this roll...

Artefact Check: [1d20+8] = 1+8 = 9

oh for crying out loud, how many 1's can a guy roll

Given how artifact checks work in MCC, not many more...

How many luck points do you have to burn? ;)

I am really sorry if this critical failure makes the thing explode and kills us all :-(

Is there anyway I can spend luck to do something about this.

Unfortunately, luck cannot be use to avoid a natural 1.

I don't want this vignette to kill off another character, so I'll come up with a logical result to the artifact failure. There were only 2 charges left, so that will mitigate the damage.

thanks

the dice gods don't seem to like me at the moment. I think Silvestri should walk behind the wagons in a manky robe with a bell and shout "unclean"

Maybe if Silvetri had tried to break the staff he might have accidentally found out how it worked.
