Chapter #4: Adventure #4 Eleven Baneful Gates - Part 1

Rashad, Khalid & Hazeem head out of the tavern having heard all they need to and make way over to the Inn next door. Rashad buys a moderate priced room for the three of them to share.

Baheej meets and greets everyone coming in that hasn't already paid for a room and offers the same services and smile as he did with everyone else this time another man stands with him that looks a bit like him if he were about 15 years younger you'd gess by the looks of it that this must be Baheej's son. "How might I help you all this very fine evening? I've got common rooms, luxury rooms, and moderately priced rooms that are between the two as for comforts. Most rooms you can fit at least two others you could fit four or five or six if one slept on the floor. Each room is priced according to their comforts and size."

Anuzal-Benham you do not want to share a room? If you do not wish too share a room. Baheej let the others of my group that they can join me if they wish.

I appreciate the offer, Anuzal, truly. But since there is a luxury room I may have to myself, I would prefer to do that. This series of endeavors has been profitable so far, and my material needs are few. When I can, I prefer to enjoy the finer things and am willing to spend for such pleasures. Good night, Anuzal. After Benham gets to his room, he will pull the cord, summoning Baheej.

Abrex says,”I’ll escort you to your room Lady Emma.. Once alone with Emma, Abrex continues ”If you prefer to sleep alone I will get a separate room.

Abrex either stays with Lady Emma or gets a common room.

Baheej turns as he is headed back to his desk and says "Will do good sir."

Baheej having heard the service bell ring heads off to see what is needed from Benham's room. The innkeeper informs Abrex and Emma "Pardon me my son Amjad will take care of you while I go see to this matter."

Dubb

Dubb stays late into the night at the tavern, slowly nursing his drink. Tales of mystics alone in the desert bring back memories of past years. He will sit there alone until he is asked to leave. "Goodnight all. Enjoy your rest for we have a mystic to track down in the morning."

At the Inn.........

Baheej arrives at Benham's room door and knocks "Hello good sir how might I be of service? It is I Baheej your friendly innkeeper."

Back at the Tavern.....

Munjid refills Dubb's drink as needed through the rest of the evening other patrons come and go the merchants that were talking and gaming leave before the night crowd arrives. One of the times Munjid stops by to refill Dubb's mug he informs the mystic "I close up around one in the early morning you are welcome to stay as long as you wish."

Abrex says”Thanks Anuzal for letting me share your room.”

Anuzal- Any time my friend. I will be having breakfast in my room if you wish do to the same. You can pull the cord there and Baheej will take your order.

Baheej arrives at Benham's room door and knocks "Hello good sir how might I be of service? It is I Baheej your friendly innkeeper."

The sha'ir opens the door and ushers Baheej into the room before closing the door behind him.

For GW:

You said that you can procure...companionship, yes? I would be interested in that, if you would be so kind. Do you know the current rates this other establishment charges? It would be embarrassing if I were unable to afford said companionship. I appreciate your discretion in this matter.

Baheej enters the room and listens to the needs of Benham nodding he replies

For Benham Only:

"Ah why yes I can get that for you, tell me what is it you desire in a companion? I shall have a few come visit your room if you wish to choose yourself. The rates vary depending ahem on the exotic nature between 5 cp – 10 gp."

These prices will do just fine. Have them send a selection of the most exotic companions, male and female both. He removes 5 gold pieces from his coin purse, holding them out to the innkeeper. This is for your troubles.

Baheej smiles and nods "Yes sir right away." and leaves Benham's room.

For Benham Only:

A short while later there is a knock at Benham's room door and a parade of both men and women enter for his selection.

The sha'ir smiles when the selection of companions arrives. Well, there are more of you than I had anticipated. I guess I will have to narrow down the field a bit. Tell me, what do you know of the ancient history of Zakhara? After a period of dialog with the assembled group, it is apparent that some of the companions have more depth than the others. Focusing on those with a broader base of knowledge, as well as good etiquette and debate skills, he is able to make his selections. Ladies, you four may stay, he says, pointing at the women in light blue, white, pink and orange. You as well, sirs, speaking to the gentlemen on the left and right. For those of you who are leaving now, here is a little something for your time. Please, speak up if you feel it is insufficient. Otherwise I thank you for your time and conversation. May you have a pleasant remainder of the evening. He hands each of them a gold coin before showing them out.

Now, for the rest of you, if you would indulge me a moment, please. Looking around the room, he calls, Jafar! Spell time. When the gen appears, he reassures his guests that everything is perfectly safe. Do not worry, I need him to fetch a spell for me and then he will leave again.

I don't get to stay and meet the company? says the disappointed efreetkin. All work and no play makes Jafar a dull boy, you know, he whines, leering at the others in the room.

Glaring at the impertinent gen, Benham snaps, Wall Against Noise, if you don't mind, and then you may have the rest of the night off- but you cannot stay here with us.

The efreetkin returns 6 minutes later without a spell. Does this mean I don't get the night off and can stay here? he asks hopefully.

No. Try it again. Don't look at me like that, and definitely do not look at my guests like that! Now, be off!

Seven minutes later, a clearly dejected Jafar returns. Here's your stupid spell. After giving the spell to Benham, the efreetkin gives one last look at the sha'ir's companions, wiggling his hips suggestively before blinking out.

2nd Level Wizard Spell (60%): [1d100] = 33; Search Time (rounds): [1d6+2] = 5+2 = 7; Delay (if rolled 00): [1d10] = 10
Since this was the second time trying to retrieve the spell that day, there is a 10% penalty, bringing the chance to 50% which still succeeds.

Now that that is out of the way, let me first cast this spell to give us some privacy. He casts Wall Against Noise, trying to position it to best prevent any noise from leaving the room. When finished, he and his company for the evening are able to get down to what he hired them for... Eventually, dawn breaks, and the breakfast he requested should hopefully arrive.

Abrex states,"Good idea Anuzal, Breakfast here sounds great." Abrex pulls the cord to summon Baheej. Once they arrive Abrex states, "I'll have your typical breakfast or what my friend Anuzal here is having please."

Baheej arrives at the door to Anuzal's room and knocks then replies to Abrex "Ah yes very well, I'll get your order in straight away."

Dubb

Dubb positions himself to observe the comings and goings at the inn and tavern. He does his best to keep tabs on the location of all travel companions. He will do so until closing time. At that time, he thanks Munjid and moves next door to the inn.

"Greetings. I need a place to sleep for the remainder of the night. Unfortunately, the fates have unkind to me lately and I find myself without coin or companions." Dubb notices the shield with the crest of his God upon it. "Ah. The symbol of Haku. It is good to see another free spirit. I am Dubb, Mystic of Haku. At your service."

Baheej "Ah you are the first to notice. That was a long time ago in my adventuring days. Munjid and I were part of an adventuring troupe. Now we own our own businesses and have children. I might have a room for you my friend and fellow follower of Haku." the innkeeper leads Dubb to a room it's a little more common than the fancy suites but will suffice in a sleeping area for the priest. "This is similar to the room I and some of the other staff stay in."

Dubb

"Excellent! This will do nicely. If you have time in the morning, I would love to hear your tales of adventure in the name of Haku."

Dubb thanks the man and starts to bed down.

I think Asad was the only one not at the Inn but I'll just say he shared a room with Rashad and his group or with Anuzal, Abrex and Emma.

The next day: Early Morning
After a good nights rest or whatever other activities the group did in the privacy of their rooms those of you that ordered a breakfast hear a knock at your room door as the sun has just started to rise. At the door is Baheej or one of his staff with the breakfast meals in hand along with hot coffee to drink with your meal. Still no word from Ahmed since you all arrived in Talv. Nobody has seen the man, he either got lost or wound up at the wrong Inn possibly. None of the hired camel jockeys have seen or heard from him either all of his stuff is still with the camels except for his weapons, armor, clothing & coins. The majority has decided to take on the quest of seeking out Mahara the mystic hermit who lives in the Valley of Echos. Some wish to seek out the council of elders before taking on the quest to ensure payment for completing said quest. The plan is to figure out where all of the missing travelers that went to deliver goods to the hermit vanished off to. Since none of the locals of Talv are willing to do so the group decided they would do so.
