IC XIII
Re: IC XIII
Severi, Elf
"None of you will be surprised to learn that I wish to slay the mechanical spider we saw last time we were here. Do the rest of you find your ambitions lay along the same line?"

Rhys the Traveler
Rhys nods."That seems like a suitable task. I doubt your sleeping and immobilizing spells will have any effect on it..."

Re: IC XIII
Quinton Kacie, Scholar-Mage
The young mage, new to the party and unsure how he will fit in with his new travelling companions, sits his horse and looks out over the city in silence while the others discuss their past encounter here.
More than anything, he is simply glad to be away from the mind-numbing drudgery of the caravan he'd been travelling with. Good fortune, indeed, that he met this adventuring band when he did.
"You've been to this place before then? You must tell me how you came to find the place. I've read hints of the place, and heard rumors, but did not realize anyone had been here in a very long time. You say you met a mechanical spider? Fascinating! Was it purely a clockwork creation or did it seem powered by some magical means?"
Quint's eyes are alight with curiosity as he speaks, sounding almost eager to meet this spider, without knowing the circumstances or what danger you might have faced the last time.

Rhys the traveler
"Well, we know what building it was in. Let's circle around from the east and avoid disturbing as much of the rest of the city as possible," Rhys says after they survey the quiet ruins for a moment.

Tev Meren nods. "I wouldn't mind felling or orc or three," he confesses. "Where shall we leave the horses?"

The Forgotten City,

A safe place is found for the horses in a sheltered spot jut outside the City. The chosen building is perhaps one hundred feet square and appears to be a three story structure, judging by the number and layout of windows. A single large door is on the ground floor, facing south.

Quinton Kacie, Scholar-Mage
Quint trails along, following the warriors lead. As they pass the assorted ruins and approach the target building, he takes note of the architectural style and whatever other clues he can see that might give some insight into who built this place and what dangers it might hold.
Based on the elf's comment, he realizes his sleep spell might not prove very useful, but does begin to bring to mind the arcane words and gestures for shield, better to protect himself should they fall under attack.

Tev Meren, Fighter
Tev secures his horse and readies his weapons, strapping on his backpack and hefting his halberd. His net stays in its case on the horse. He follows the lead of those who have been here before.

Re: IC XIII
Rhys the Traveler
Rhys springs from his horse, drawing his sword as his feet lightly touch the ground.
"When last we were here, we opened the door and it was in the main room. Maybe others have come before us and killed it. Maybe others have come before us and died. Who knows what we'll find..."
He quietly heads to the door they previously opened and listens at it to see if he can hear anything.

Severi, Elf
"I believe it to be some kind of automaton. It followed us to the door, and no further. It may well be precisely where we left it, in the room it was guarding."
Seeing that Rhys has detected no danger, Severi opens the main doors.

Tev Meren
Tev is backing Severi up, his crossbow readied. His halberd is leaning against the building, within easy reach to grab after his initial crossbow shot.

Quint grips his staff tightly, fighting the rush of excitement, nerves, fear and tension that always accompanies these moments for him. He positions himself to one side of the door way, out of the direct line of fire, and waits for the fighters to open it.

Re: IC XIII
Severi listens at the door but hears nothing. He is able to push the door open himself; the door swings open, revealing a fifteen foot wide hallway that runs the length of the building; a window is set into the wall at the end of the corridor. There are four massive, wooden doors opening into the hallway, each paired opposite another. The first set is approximately twenty feet into the building; the second fifty feet in. All four doors are closed.
All in all, this building appears to be in much better shape than the others the adventurers have seen; the flagstones laid into the floor are largely whole and uncracked, the walls relatively clean and free of slime or mold. Inlaid into the flagstones of the corridor is an abstract pattern of blue and gold tiles.

Re: IC XIII
Tev Meren
Tev Meren takes point, entering the doorway as quietly as he can, his crossbow leveled to shoot. He looks first to the ceiling, then keeps the weapon trained as he prepares to advance down the corridor. He looks aside briefly to catch Rhys' eye and enquires about the floor ahead with a wiggle of his finger.

Re: IC XIII
Rhys the Traveler
Without stepping on them, Rhys moves up to the colored tiles and examines the nearest ones to see if they are trapped. He gets as low to the surface as he can and looks across the floor to see if any of the tiles are slightly raised.

Re: IC XIII
Severi walks quietly into the building, and points at the closest door. He readies sword and shield.
"I still believe our best option is to withdraw outside, and pelt it with arrows as it approaches. Last time it closed the doors. If we antagonize it, though, it might come out where we could surround it."
