"Waste no more energy on words, for we will need it to fight! Arrows! Now!"Rhys calls out as he draws his powerful bow again and launches an arrow at the group of orcs/ogres. If he is separated from the others in the party by some distance, then he will move to be closer to them and help form a wall of sorts.

Severi leads the light foot back toward the rest of the party, desiring to give the archers and spellcasters time to thin the enemy ranks before it is time to close.

Aquar, cleric
"Procan be with us!"
Aquar prepares his Hold spell, waiting until the larger humanoids in the pack get 180' away at which point he casts the enchantment at four of them. While waiting, he moves behind the archers (maintaining line of sight) so as to avoid any orc missile fire.

The enemy approach, quickly at first, loping over the uneven ground, but as they begin to close the distance they begin to spread out, as well, 'til they have arranged themselves in a long, curving line covering perhaps one hundred or so feet. They begin to advance more slowly; the companions note that half the orcs are armed with with several short throwing spears, whilst the rest seem to only bear weapons more suited to a melee. As they draw nearer Severi discerns that the large, hulking brutes do not appear to be ogres, but rather some sort of twisted and tumerous orc!
The orcs' actions seem to be governed by an orc anchoring the center of the line, who shouts and gesticulates wildly, occasionally lashing those near him with the whip he bears in one hand. Further down the line another orc -- so small it appears to be stunted -- capers and gibbers wildly, the pointed cap 'pon its head waving back and forth.
The orcs are just outside of the range of a sleep spell.

Rhys the Traveler
If Rhys is able to select his target, he takes his first shots at the skinny shaman at the back with his great longbow.

Severi lines up with the rest of the warriors, and prepares to cast Sleep once the orcs enter range.

The orcs stay stubbornly out of bowshot range. Rhys draws back his massive bow and lets loose an arrow, but an errant gust of wind catches it mid-flight and sends it wide of its target. The orcs continue to jeer and shake their weapons; the monstrous, mishapen orcs wave weapons that look like matchsticks in their glabrous paws. The orc with the whip continues to exhort and browbeat his troops, whilst the shaman's chant reaches a crescendo. The wiry magician pulls what looks to be a dagger from his belt, and draws it with a swift gesture across his other hand. Something small and cylindrical flies into the air, followed by a spurt of brownish liquid outlined starkly against the drab brown of the Forgotten City. An instant later, the ground shakes, and a creature pulls itself from the depths. It is hard to tell at this distance, but the beast is hirsute and vaguely shrew-like.

"Star and stone!" Severi exclaims. "I dread to say it, but they may have summoned a giant weasel."

Anohir, Priest
"Or worse! A giant shrew."
Anohir still has both healing spells for today right? I lost track of which day this is.

Rhys nods in agreement and looses an arrow, still aiming for the smaller orc shaman, however...

Alright, so I feel like things have stalled a bit. I'd like to see the following, by the end of the weekend, if possible:
1)Actions from everyone who hasn't posted since the giant shrew erupted from the earth.
2)A game plan for what the men-at-arms will be doing. You can find a summary of whose available here: viewtopic.php?p=94205#p94205
3)Give me an idea of how you guys are going to close, or at least engage. As of the moment you're pretty much out of missile fire range.

Aquar, cleric
Aquar moves closer with the group, staying to the rear of the archers for protection and an uninterrupted casting of Hold Person when the orcs get at 180'.
"Direct your Sleep enchantments toward the left and right sides Severi and Mursley, and I will Hold the center, so our spells won't overlap," says Aquar.

Rhys the Traveler
Rhys moves forward with the rest of the group, if just to decrease his range with his longbow.
