Zix moves with Elven speed in drawing bow, nocking arrow and firing two shoots at the thief-acrobat. The arrows fly true but the seemingly hit an invisible wall in front of the man. They impact and drop to the floor.

"The Guild Master thought that may happen," says the thief-acrobat with a smile. "I've been enchanted by the Guild Magician with a protection against such missiles. You'll have to do it the old fashioned way."

Using his pole to help balance, the man advances 5' onto the right beam, which is 5' away from the left beam. Each is four inches wide. Both cross the open pit floor. He waits for Zix.

Annoyed, Zix draws her dagger and attempts to race past the acrobat on the opposite beam.

Zix sprints across the beam as fast as caution allows one to run on a four-inch wide beam.

The thief-acrobat swings his pole at the elf. She ducks, sways...
- T-A pole [1d20] = 4, damage [1d6] = 3 Miss
- please do Dex. check with 3d6 to maintain balance.

Zix evades the blow and keeps on running!

Zix ducks and continues running down the beam. The thief-acrobat swings at her departing form and lands a painful blow on her back (5 HP, and 5d6 Dex. check.)
- Considered a retreat from combat, the thief-acrobat gets a free attack per DMG.
- T-A pole [1d20] = 19, damage [1d6] = 5 Hit for 5
- Please roll Dex. check with 5d6 to maintain balance. It is more dice because you've been hit hard.
Thanks.

You can make a regular d20 Dex. Check to catch the beam.

I guess she doesn't fall.

Zix staggers from impact of the pole on her back. She slips off the beam, falls, but at the last moment grabs the beam. She hangs by one arm for but a moment before scrambling upright onto the beam. The thief-acrobat reaches her, swinging his pole menacingly.

Zix keeps running for the other side.

Zix makes it to the other side before the thief-acrobat can swing again. She is on the ledge. There is a portalway in the north corner.

The thief-acrobat curses and throws his pole like a spear at Zix. It strikes the elf in the shoulder (3 HP.)

Zix takes her last drink from the potion and says to the acrobat, "That was very unsportsman like."

Zix drinks the remaining potion and is magically healed (8 HP.) The exit is the northwest corner portal.

The thief-acrobat growls, moves swiftly across the beam and is heading toward the elf.

Zix bolts for the portal.

Ooo! 4 more hp than I rolled! I'll take that. :D

At the north end of the ledge is an open portal into a large chamber, 30' wide by 60' long. Within the chamber are mock rooms - a bedroom, kitchen, living room, tavern common-room, and faux outdoor space with fake trees and well. There are people here and there about the mock rooms. Torches and candles light the room. The ceiling is 30' high. Running along the edges of the room is a wooden balcony, 20' up. Looking down from the opposite wall balcony is the Guild Lieutenant.

"Congratulations on making it this far Runner," he says. "You are very near the end. This room tests important thief skills in a simulated environment. Proceed through each room and follow the directions on the parchment. Most parchments are obviously visible. As always, you are being timed. Good luck."

The closest mock room, which Zix surmises to be first, is a bedroom. A man sleeps on top of a cot. There is a piece of parchment on the nightstand next to him.

She'll attempt to move silently towards the sleeping man and read the parchment.
So much for silence..

The man stirs but appears to still be asleep. The parchment is on the night stand.

The parchment reads: "The man in the bed has a pouch on his belt and a vest with two pockets. Inside one of them is the prize. Pick pocket it without waking him."
