Let us never speak of these events again.

And I do feel better now thinking about how Strom was covered in puke with minus strength, so I lost all my bonuses for most of the fights anyway.

True. And that is probably why it was something most of us never thought twice about.

Let's move on to possibly looting said trog lair, now, shall we? :D

Troglodytes Treasure Trove:
1. 5 scattered piles of various animal bones
2. Enough dirty, smelly rags to clothe an orphanage
3. 10 pieces of crudely made stone tools(50% broken)
4. Evidently 100+javelins (50% dull or broken)
5. Secret hole in back cave, full of excrement
6. Strips of unidentified meat (wrapped in above rags)
7. 10% chance of finding a mundane item hiding in feces hole

Grim gets first pick!!!!! :D

Ruk, this is the most significant challenge of EVERY low-level magic user cook, at least in most versions that are 2.0e or older. (I really don't know much about anything newer - it might be totally different.) But this has been the crux of the magic user class for 30 years, man.

The key is to
a) be sure you are useful during the non-combative times (work hard to figure out puzzles, be interactive with the NPCs, that sort of thing),
b) pick up some vials of oil and prep them for throwing (alternately, pick up some vials of holy water for fighting undead) and
c) hang in there. Hopefully you'll get a few levels under your belt in a relatively short time (granted, that time is even longer in PbP) and then you'll have more spells available to you.

Once that happens, you will have significantly fewer times during each game day where you feel less-than-useful.

The most important one, though, is to hang in there.

I hope you don't drop out.

Al

I will try to stick it out a bit longer. I think it will be easier to help out with the problems still lingering in O'Hare. But if the Dm decides to throw the group into another cramped, single file area again, so help me...

Just understand you aren't the first to have such feelings about a 1st level caster.

And, believe me, I'd rather keep Gwillt out of such enclosed encounters for at least a little bit. That was WAY too close for comfort. He might possibly develop a phobia of enclosed spaces after this is all said and done...

In retrospect, we didn't think that "plan" out very well. We should have assumed connecting tunnels and set up something accordingly (like coat the floor of the second tunnel branch with oil, then have two people stationed to guard the passage, probably with Fimmion there to light it all up once a nice gathering of trogs was amassed on top of the slick.

We also need to figure out how to get around the goody-goody cavalier's inability to be sneaky and deceptive. ;)

Continuing my rambling from last post - do we risk pushing on considering the state we are all in - there could be many more Trogs in these tunnels. Or do we retreat for R & R and come back stronger, risking the last inhabitants disappearing with their treasure ? The common D&D dilemma but I think we need to be careful.
Do O'Rek and Ep have any healing left?

I have one CLW left. Agree that a forward action to the rear is probably a good idea

Once Grim kills the last one, we should head back to town to sleep a day. Ewell is still negative and couldn't fight anyway.

heading off down the tunnel was a REAL bad idea.

Not much epsilon can do at this point except throw his oil and hope the spiders don't chase him down.

Character sheet updated. Gwillt's HP roll was nothing to complain about (5+CON Bonus = 6).

For those fighter-types hitting 3rd level, don't forget to adjust your THAC0. Should be 18* now. :)

[1d4] = 3

Here is my roll for the cook's additional hit points. The roller gave me a 3 (no constitution modifier is in place). My character can memorize a new spell yes? Let me look one up for him and I will get back to you shortly on it.

I know this was questioned earlier, and I meant to look into this, but forgot.

Per my rules (see: 03h. Magic-User)
"Starting Spells
Each Magic-User character will begin the game with a spell book containing either five spells 1st-level spells, or four 1st-level spells plus cantrips. The DM will assign three of these spells to the player (automatically known). The remaining two will be spells of the players' choosing, but these chosen spells are subject to the 'Chance to Know Each Listed Spell' percentage for the characters Intelligence.

Note: 'Read Magic' is not a spell, but an ability, and all Magic-User characters have the ability to read magical writing, per the spell, at will."

---

So, while the caster has up to five 1st-level spells available to them in their starting spell book, the number of spells a magic user can memorize (and cast) per day is limited to the amount found on the Wizard Spell Progression table, and is determined by their level.

At 1st-level, a single spell can be memorized and cast.
At 2nd-level, a second 1st-level spell can be memorized and cast.
Etc...

The one "tweak" to this is that I made 'Read Magic' an at-will ability and not a spell.

Rukellian, I honestly can't remember now if we ever did formalize a starting spell list and spell book. If not, let me know and we will get that corrected.

Would Ewell get 3rd level perks like +1 to hit Long sword and 3/2 attacks now, or after training?
