Greystone nods his thanks to Cole and follows him to catch up with the others.

Upon seeing the creatures in the next room, Greystone mutters,"Now is as good a time as any for whoever has those darts to put them to good use..."

Cole grunts in acknowledgment and says,"I've only got one or two more uses out of this ring that Rast gave me. Might as well use it while I can - we're either going to WALK out of here victorious...or we'll never see the light of day again...if we're lucky."

Darkstar fits an arrow to bow and says, "The wolves are just wolves - it's the leader and his mate we need to worry about. Nothing but silver or magic will harm them. Make everything count!"

((ooc: Note, Tath should have attacked and done 9 damage to the wolf man attacking Adain last round, since that's the nearest enemy to where they are.))

Now would be a really good time for a web spell. Unfortunately, Tarrin was fresh out of them. He did have some healing available, and it was looking like the king would need it. But first he had to get to him, and that meant clearing things out a little. Advancing into the fray to join Tath, Tarrin swung his sword with all his might.

((ooc: Initiative: 1d10 = 10
Advance to nearest enemy - wolf man if still alive, a wolf otherwise (preference for the one fighting Nokrugh, to free him up)

Tath continued to bite and claw at the wolves and strange-smelling humans. She grabbed one and pulled it into a hug, crushing bones.

((ooc: Initiative: 1d10 = 7
Attack wolf man, if wolf man dead nearest wolf or worg.

The reason I didn't write her attack in was because I wasn't sure which enemy you wanted to attack, but it makes sense she would help Adain. Great rolls, btw! Will wait on Nokrugh to check in and Darkstar if he can get signal. Same for Greystone and Cole - c'mon fellers! It's killing time.

Greystone unshoulders his bow and sets a silver-tipped arrow to string.

He waits to see who Darkstar targets, then fires at the same target, moving positions to get a better line of sight on the target if necessary...

Initiative [1d10] = 7

To Hit, Shortbow [1d20+3] = 20+3 = 23
Damage, Flight Arrow [1d6] = 5

To Hit, Shortbow [1d20+3] = 10+3 = 13 Hits AC6
Damage, Flight Arrow [1d6] = 2

Bah. I couldn't remember if Hedge used crits or not, so I rolled it.

It's two more points of damage, at least.

Does that mean the 5 I rolled get applied to the second arrow, if it hits? :D

Charging into the room the ensuing chaos momentarily confuses Nokrugh but he soon eyes his target, a huge full on werewolf! However, as he starts to advance a wolf leaps at him but is easily deflected by his shield. Nokrugh takes a swing at the wolf in front of him:

Attack1: [1d20+1] = 7+1 = 8
Attack2: [1d20+1] = 1+1 = 2

I must win the award for the most 1's rolled.

Battle of Malar's Fist - Into the Werewolves' Lair 8
Initiative Order: Cole (3), Nokrugh & Barbarians (5), Darkstar, Greystone & Tath (7), Werewolves/Wolves (9), Tarrin (10)
http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133150/

Cole and Greystone enter the room, and Cole immediately runs forward and summons the power of his ring. A force-like ram's head springs forth from his fist and slams into the female werewolf at the back of the room! The blow launches her in the air and she slams against the back wall! (10 pts)
The worg at her feet roars in anger and charges toward Cole, eager to rip the ranger in half. But again, Tath steps in and grabs the worg as it charges past, pulling it into her body, hugging it hard enough to snap ribs! (11 pts) The worg shudders and bites at the black bear in the throat, ripping through fur and flesh, delivering a near fatal wound! http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133170/ + http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133173/ She drops the worg, staggers, and falls... (OOC: I don't remember how many HP she has, but I know she's close to going down.)
Advancing quickly, angered by the attack on his new friend, Tarrin raises the big two-handed sword, and splits the worg's skull with a fearsome blow! (5 pts)

Nokrugh attacks the wolf that jumped him, but the beast dodges his blade easily. The barbarian brothers attack their wolf foes, inflicting minor wounds. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133180/ The wolves retaliate, missing Nokrugh and Dorn, but ripping into Gorn savagely, taking the young barbarian down to the ground. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133183/

Seeing the barbarian king die, Darkstar fires at the werewolf leader without hesitation. His first arrow shatters against the stone wall of the chamber, but his next two arrows are on the mark, driving into the werewolf's shoulder and chest! (6 pts) http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133215/
Greystone follows his elven cousin and fires two arrows at the werewolf leader, drilling him in the throat (Critical 10 pts), and parting the fur on his face with the second one.

With roars of surprise and pain, the werewolf couple attacks! The female gets up, holding an elaborate knife, and hurls it at Cole. The knife misses, but miraculously returns to her hand...and she throws it again! And again, Cole dives to the side, and the knife returns to her hand. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133247/

Feldar, the werewolf leader, bleeding profusely but enraged at the attack against his mate, charges furiously ahead, directly toward the archers...directly toward Darkstar! "Arrrghhh!" he roars, swiping at the elven archer, and missing by a mile, as he careens off the wall and nearly falls down! http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133319/
But then, delivers a vicious backhanded swipe at Darkstar's face and chest, ripping deep into the archer's flesh! (8 pts) http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4133354/

ACTIONS!!

Current Stats:
Cole - down 5 hp

Tarrin winced as Tath went down. He'd only known the bear for a few days, but he liked her. And she'd been of great help in this fight. But if she died, she died. Tarrin was not a priest of Silvanus; he did not mistake animals for people, and it was people he needed to worry about now.

But first, memory of King Gundar failing to have any of his blows affect the werewolf reminded him of a more pressing need. He grabbed the magical dagger that he'd found during his adventure with the elves and pulled it from his belt. He'd never done anything with it, since he had no skill with knife fighting. Nokrugh probably didn't either, but it wouldn't make as much difference for him. "Nokrugh!" he shouted, tossing him the magical dagger. "Magical! Kill the werewolves!"

That should hopefully keep the werewolves focused on the big, nasty fighter, he thought grimly. And now for the dying. He pressed forward, past the battling barbarians (who he was apparently going to need to come back to momentarily, until he reached the king. Kneeling, he quickly bound the man's wounds. He hadn't died yet it seemed, and if Tarrin could avoid it, he wouldn't.

((ooc: Tath has 17 hit points (it's on the Special Abilities part of my character sheet), so she's at -2 and bleeding out.

Initiative: [1d10] = 2

Move to King Gundar, bind his wounds. Stops hit point loss, but he's at whatever negative until he gets some actual healing magic, or a LOT of time goes by.))

I guess we need a ruling > when most animals drop below their listed hp, they are dead. Would we say the same about animal companions like Tath? Or do they benefit from the -10 hp rule?

@Tarrin:
When you reach the king, he grabs you by the arm and with his dying gasp, says, "Adain...nephew...king..." and then he expires.

((ooc: I don't have a firm opinion one way or another on the -10 animals thing. A ranger's companions definitely should, but Tath isn't part of that prestigious group. She's just a bear that's a friend. Could go either way.

And since I didn't spend the round healing the king, can I attack the wolf instead?))

I agree with your thoughts about that. Tath will be a casualty of battle, opening you up for another animal companion if you wish later on. And yes, go ahead and attack!!

Also heeding the words from earlier discussions, Greystone draws the magical knife from his belt and attempts to to stab the werewolf attacking Darkstar from behind.

(no Backstab attempt, I assume, per the werewolf is aware of him, but at least he'd get the +2 bonus for attacking from behind...)

To Hit, Long Knife +1, rear attack [1d20+3] = 3+3 = 6

Oh, that sucked...

Nokrugh's blade slashes wide of the Wolf when he looks over at the mention of his name. He's see's the blade coming for him and in his enraged fury thinks maybe he's being attacked,

vs. Int: [1d20] = 10

...then decides probably not and with with his free hand snatches the dagger from the air! Turning back to face his enemy Nokrugh stabs viciously at the wolf attacking him and impales him on the dagger with such force he lifts the beast into the air shoulder height, and slams him to the ground!

To hit: [1d20+1] = 20+1 = 21
Damage:[1d4] = 2*2+4=8pts!

Tarrin rises from the dead king's body and snarls. Dead king, dead bear, maybe dead barbarian if he couldn't get there in time. Time to make a dead wolf. Turning, he twirled his sword to pick up momentum and slammed it into the back of the wolf fighting Dorn.

Darkstar grunts in pain as he staggers back from the wounds. He fights to keep his concentration on the target in front of him. His shoulders relax as his body begins the well trained motion of nock, draw, aim, fire. He realizes that one mistake will most likely result in his death.

Battle of Malar's Fist - Into the Werewolves' Lair 9
Initiative Order: Tarrin & Greystone (2), Darkstar, (6), Cole & Werewolves/Wolves (7), Barbarians (9), Nokrugh (10

http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4137633/

Tarrin rises from the dead king's body and snarls. Dead king, dead bear, maybe dead barbarian if he couldn't get there in time. Time to make a dead wolf. Turning, he twirled his sword to pick up momentum and slammed it into the back of the wolf fighting Dorn. (4 pts) The wolf buckles, but doesn't fall, snarling and facing two foes now, it tries to decide which to attack.

Remembering previous conversations, Greystone draws the magical knife from his belt and attacks Feldar from behind...but his foot slips on the dirt floor of the cavern, and his stab misses the beast. His companion, Darkstar grunts in pain as he staggers back from the wounds. He fights to keep his concentration on the target in front of him. His shoulders relax as his body begins the well trained motion of nock, draw, aim, fire, two silver-tipped arrows, right at the werewolf. And even though the werewolf is directly in front of him, the beast's agility spoils the archer's aim. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4137643/

Cole charges forward, extending his fist and invoking the power of the ring. A ghostly form of a ram bursts forth and slams the female werewolf again in the chest and face, knocking her backward! http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4137656/
She screams in pain and hurls her dagger at Cole, driving into his chest and ripping back out to return to her hand, whereupon, she immediately throws it again...but this time, Cole dodges to the side and she misses. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4137660/

Feldar snarls and slashes at Darkstar, raking the wood elf across the face and down his chest! (Crit = 9 pts)
http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4137662/ > http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4137663/
Darkstar falls to the cavern floor, his life's blood pouring out in the dirt. Feldar snarls and turns to Greystone, licking Darkstar's blood from his talons. "You're next, elf!"

As the wolf worries Gorn, sending the barbarian's soul to Uthgar's realm, the other wolves attack! The wolf facing Tarrin and Dorn decides to attack the Dalesman who nearly crippled it, ripping into his leg, biting deep. (2 pts) While a few feet away, the other wolf jumps at Nokrugh, missing the half-orc with its teeth. http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/4137666/

Nokrugh's, having snatched the dagger tossed to him by Tarrin, stabs viciously at the wolf as it leaps at him. The dagger impales the beast with such force that he lifts it into the air and slams it to the ground! (Crit = 8 pts) The wolf cries out as it thrashes in its death throes.

ACTIONS!!!

Current Stats:
Cole - down 5 hp
Darkstar - down 17 hp - dying
Dorn - down 4 hp
Gorn - dead
Tarrin - down 2
Tath - dead
Adain - down 23 - dying
King Gundar - dead
Worg - dead
Feldar (werewolf leader) - down 16 hp
Rani (werewolf) - down 18 hp
