Re: OOC

Now I want more of that show, is there a version with English subtitles?
I'm working on some private ooc posts, then I'll put up something on the main thread.

I think some of you need to check tour private threads.

Re: OOC
I have posted a new map with settlements and suggested targets: https://www.unseenservant.us/forum/view ... 77#p516477
The settlements are mostly known from centuries of raiding. The ships ( Trawlers and tradeships ) are where Regina's scan has found them.

Re: OOC
Maybe this one?
1: Skeaping. A trading port. About 500 population. Well built stone houses, market square adjacent to docks. It has significant offworld contact as the trawlers put in here to pick up fresh food and trade for scavenged artefacts. It will have better weapons than most settlements of its size. The three small villages to the south bring their finds from the crater fields to Skeaping
Emphasis mine.
"Artefacts" might be more interesting loot than some poor sods TL5 "cutting edge tech"?
It's also small so should have an equally small (but perhaps better quality) garrison?
We might even need a recon!

Re: OOC
Alas there are no probe drones, and a recon by ship or APC may cost the element of surprise.
If you glide down at a very shallow angle as Leon suggests you won't make an obvious entry, but at some point a 300dT ship is visible to the naked eye no matter what, and the locals are primed to see that threat in the same way small mammals sense hawks.
Skeaping does not have mountains to mask your approach, but the large island gives you good NOE cover if you come in from the west.

Re: OOC
I think I would prefer this to a fishing vessel. Like the idea of some interesting loot. Also a better equipped garrison might make a better fight of it, but we do have a 300Dt armed raider.
So a fast NoE from the west, soften up the place with some ship fire, deposit raiders for, well, raiding. Have the Serpent fly top cover during the messy bits and be back in space in time for breakfast.

There will still be the opportunity to go for a fishing boat or tradeship after the settlement, if you're still feeling feisty.

Re: OOC
I selected settlements for their proximity to Trawlers. There are other settlements with other characteristics.

Feel free, I was about to get the ball rolling myself - I think anyone with a comment has had a chance to make it.

Re: OOC
Whew, I genuinely wasn't expecting that. I figured "kids are dumb and probably need to be carefully herded" would have gone over better! Oh well, can't win them all.
Re: OOC
Just trying to react in character
as in, of course raiders with our long experience know that and don't need some slave (albeit a valuable slave)telling them their job.
Love Remmingtons character, and Kar isn't really that angry. Just have to keep up appearances. So the private chat is just this.. Don't make Kars job complicated in front of the other children (slaves and more traditional Ohgmans). I Know i'd miss it if he didn't rant from time to time
Also Knowing his character thus far I doubt he'll listen too closely
Which is good!

Alas, the long suffering Remington gets both barrels!!!

The wisdom there is absolutely sound.Gorethirster wrote: ↑Fri Nov 20, 2020 10:57 pmWhew, I genuinely wasn't expecting that. I figured "kids are dumb and probably need to be carefully herded" would have gone over better! Oh well, can't win them all.
However, telling an Oghman raid leader of repute how to suck tactical eggs and how to command her own warband in front of all the other ships officers was surely always going to get a bite?
Back the borderline psychotic into a social corner much?

... and another "Simultaneous postage"

PS Entirely agree with sentiment above and not at all trying to restrict anyone's player agency but just roleplay a status obsessed "barbarian" who is only as good as their last attempt to "get rich or die tryin' ".

Re: OOC
I suppose in my head it wasn't tactical advice so much as advice on dealing with kids. Kar and Raven are experienced raiders, and presumably worked with other experienced raiders. I figured wrangling the youth might have been a new challenge so Remington might have some useful experience there, having been forced to waste his valuable research time teaching unappreciative undergrads physics that to him are self explanatory. I guess it's perfectly in character for Remington to not consider niceties of that sort and blurt out what's meant to be helpful advice without considering how it would come across.
