pauses a moment at these revelations and then shakes his head, continuing his work and shaking his head. Wow... So what do you think is the chances of an... audience with the Phanaton leader... or... leaders? Really? 500 to 1? And I was worried about the bugs...
This gray man you have mentioned... Did we not hear about one or two of the adventuring type mentioning a gray man sighted here and there around the town... and was there talk about a gray man being in charge over the pirates and slavers? Could this be the same man?
We could take down many threats in one if it is the same person... I hate talking death, but if he is indeed a murderer then... well...
I suppose we must seek whatever justice we can on this island.

"Yes, really. And it might even be more than that. I have only seen a small portion of their elevated domain, but they told me it stretched across the entire island. If that is true, we wont survive here by making enemies of the tree folk."
"I do not know if the dark evil man is tied to the other scenarios you mentioned, but I believe that you are right in saying that if it is true, much evil could be taken care of by eliminating this one threat."
"This is a harsh place, friend Liam. With need of harsh solutions. You may want to tone down your sensibilities of law and honor when dealing with some of the things we will encounter here. This place is as wild and untamed as any other I've seen in my many years."

Liam nods at that last statement. I understand, my friend. I just worry about how far we take it when we start splitting hairs, and when and how do we stop, or know when to stop? Still, we should try reaching out to them. Once this roof is in order, do you think we could visit them?
Looking down on Marge from the rooftop, he takes a moment to consider. We also need a trip to gather water soon. How safe do you think it might be to make an attempt with Jack and the cart? Have we heard back from the scouts yet?

"I keep hearing that most of the nearby threats have been dealt with, so I assume that the trip to the river must be safer now then ever."
"I could attempt to arrange a meeting of some kind with the tree folk. The closest faction leader has an item of interest that I would love to get a closer look at. It is a fist sized sphere of solid stone, I cant tell which. But it is more than that. For it holds the power to understand and communicate languages, albeit briefly. This is how I know so much about them. We have built up a bit of a trust, despite what they have seen from others."
"When would you like me to try to set up an assembly?"

"Well then, I will go out to attempt a parlay as soon as I finish here. Perhaps they will see us yet today."
After shoving a few more tufts of thatch under a sparse area, the elf dusts off his hands and leaps off of lowest portion of the roof.
"Would you care to go with me to find them?"

After helping him finish, follows after, perhaps with a bit more of a wince on impact. He smiles and nods. Yes Sir, I would like that.
Then to Marge. At least things are coming together.
I will seek you out first thing when we get back, good lady.

Marge nods in understanding and goes off to find some hard work to do.
Raythan leads Liam a short way into the jungle where a thick rope hangs about 10 feet off of the ground up in a thick tree.
When Liam looks up, he spots a wooden platform built high up in the highest branches of the tree. Raythan smiles at the human and spits into the palms of his hands.
"You ready for a difficult climb, friend?"

He swallows a little as he looks up and slowly nods. Yes, sir... he says but then sets his jaw stubbornly. He'd come this far. Time to pay the piper again. Lead the way, my good man.

Re: It's Good To Bee Liam
Raythan hops up onto the first branch and pulls his human friend up so he can reach the end of the thick rope. The half-elf starts up the rope with great skill, as if he has done this many times before. Liam looks up at him in wonder, hoping he still has what it takes to follow close enough behind.
Raythan shouts down to him as he climbs.
"Always make sure to keep at least one foot or one hand on a solid limb to prevent falling, and use them to help pull yourself up."
Give me a normal STR and normal DEX check for Liam, please.

Grabs ahold of the rope and thanks his lucky stars that all that training back in the day made him a bit more ready for this than he would have thought. A few old muscles work out their stiffness and in no time he is up the rope right behind the elf.
Well, I'll be honest, I was wondering if I still had it in me, but here we are. he smiles.
STR v 15 [3d6] = 12 DEX v 16 [3d6] = 6

Re: It's Good To Bee Liam
Liam climbs and climbs, putting one hand above the other, just like he remembered. The view of Raythan's ass eventually changes to heavy green foliage and the half-elf is soon far above the human. As Liam tries to catch back up, he starts looking around a little beyond his friend. He starts to notice large wooden platforms in the branches at the top of the trees in every direction. The flat wooden platforms are all tied together by long vines strung from tree to tree that must act as bridges for the phanaton. Liam is pretty sure he wouldn't make it across such a bridge.
After what feels like hours, the exhausted duo finally reaches the planks of wood that make up the platform in this tree. There is a small square hole in the bottom of the platform that the rope dangles through, allowing a climber access from the bottom. When Liam pops his sweaty head up through the hole, he sees Raythan sitting on the floor, leaning up against what is left of the trunk of this tree. The platform is only about 15 feet square, and Raythan is the only person in sight. Once Liam has a chance to catch his breath, he looks around from tree to tree, finding absolutely nothing around as far as the eye can see.
Raythan greets the tall human in his usual manner.
"I am glad that you didn't fall, friend."

After smirking and taking another moment to catch his breath completely, Raythan eventually stands again and dusts off his hands.
"If you are well enough after that climb, should I see if I can summon them?"

Re: It's Good To Bee Liam
Raythan looks sideways at Liam’s comment, but decides not to pursue it any further. He walks over to the edge of the small platform in the tree and looks out over the jungle canopy.
The view from this height is astonishing. Though the sea isn’t visible from this side of the branches, Liam spots a vast network of these platforms scattered amongst the other tall trees to the north. Several of the distant platforms have small wooden structures built on them. Some platforms are built up above the branches and others below, using the heavy boughs as roofs for their tiny shelters. Thin vines connect each platform, some of them stretching over fifty feet between spans. The longer he looks, the more of them he notices, hidden literally everywhere throughout the canopy.
Phanaton can be seen on some of the distant platforms, apparently going about their daily business. They don’t seem to notice the intrusion into their domain. Raythan looks at Liam in his usual serious demeanor.
“We need to get their attention. It’s time to put your acting skills to the test, friend. You must jump around and act like a monkey. Screech loudly so they will hear you. That is the only way you will get their attention.”

Re: It's Good To Bee Liam
Raythan watches his friend with a large grin on his usually very serious face. Liam believes this is all just a hoax, but he continues his shenanigans anyway.
The monkey-like actions do indeed draw the attention of the distant phanaton, but all they can do is stand and watch the humans strange antics with confused looks on their furry faces.
After a few seconds of this aerial hazing, Raythan tells his friend to stop. He then starts a soft slow whistle towards the direction of the occupied platforms, waving his arms in a strange manner, opening and closing them as if he were trying to fly or glide through the air. After a few moments of this, the distant tree folk seem to understand, calling along the trees in their own native communication of clicks, squeaks, and screeches.
Raythan looks to his human friend. "It worked. Good job."
Liam looks around for a moment, noticing that nothing has really changed from his perspective. He wonders why Raythan would have said that his actions worked.

Seeing the hazing is done, he stands up and smiles with a nod. He was willing to allow the elf his fun. He took things too hard anyway, and it was nice to see him smile for once. He scanned the treetops for any sight of the Phanaton chief or envoy. impressive that all this was up here all along and so well hidden we knew nothing about it. Looks like lumber work will be very difficult without disturbing something. Still, any sign of civilization is a welcome and uplifting sight. This means it is possible

Re: It's Good To Bee Liam
Raythan doesn't seem to enjoy his joke as much once he realizes that Liam is just going along with it. The smile stays on his face a bit longer, all the same.
The elf nods at the wisdom of is friend as he moves closer to one of the vines stretched across the platforms. He begins tapping on the taut rope in strange intervals, as if he was sending a coded message of some kind. Liam can hear distant screeching and squawking rippling through the tree tops. Then he notices some movement from the distant phanaton, as if they are relaying what the half-elf is doing.
"Good. That is a good sign that the chieftain isn't far off. Our wait should be minimal, unless you want to try crossing the vines instead?"
He looks off into the distance again, as if he were counting the platforms that he can see.
"Yes, you are correct. I bet you that most of the people on this island don't even know that there is a huge settlement directly over their heads. I have been to a few of these platforms further inland, and believe me when I say that these creatures are everywhere up here."
