Shannigans / I could have tried to take the easy way and chose orc but, had to remain true to the original idea.
Now he may want to learn orc, but does not know it at the moment i guess.
I'll never fault someone for not taking the easy way out if it goes against their character's personality or concept.
The more life you breathe into your character, the better the game becomes.

Be forewarned. I'm going to work on using some of these...

Well, working to make a particular someone with squirrel could be fun. Not sure about some of the others. Only a beef-witted man would take on a few of these.

Well, I got to play at Rob Kuntz's table.
I even made him shake his head in disbelief, while blinking in surprise, as he said,
"What?", during my character description.
I was telling him about my human dwarf, a midget if you will. Graverobber, Tomb-Raider, Thief named Dewguud, with a Helm of Disguise.
(I actually took a bad-ass Halloween mask with me to donate to the EGG Jr. Benefit Auction)
It was one of my finest gaming moments......Shocking someone who has seen it all..... The look on his face......
I rolled horribly during the game, but ......we were being attacked by Snotlings or something.
I was being carried by an invisible flying party member. Disguised, I must have looked like a flying god to the snotlings.
But it still didnt stop em from trying to get us.......

You're certainly not rolling poorly in this game. I swear, you and Alethan are ruining the roller for everyone else!

Including every other character I have in every other game on this forum! :-\
Dice rolls are like ocean waves. They come and they go... but they keep on coming and going.

You know, umm, the DM can always make, umm, adjustments behind the scenes to "recalibrate" the luck certain PCs happen to have or , say, not have...
(and I have been reading the hunger games, which I find a lot like d&d games. The game master can push along the battles with random catastrophes whenever there is a lul in the action... I see DMs being able to do that same thing...)

Just finished book two. So, yes... like that. I borrowed it because it was available on kindle library. But, my son cant read on the kindle without being too distracted to switch to a video game. So, I read it myself. Fascinating story.

It'll all balance itself out (assuming you survive long enough).
I should probably share that I do not "fudge" or alter rolls. Ever. The randomness and uncertainty are just part of the game (and fun or excitement). I fully expect there will be good streaks as well as bad.

I read the first book of the trilogy shortly before watching the movie... and will read the second book shortly before second movie is released.
Anyway, as to "random catastrophes," I have no problem deciding on a whim to modify my planned events or encounters if it doesn't suit the situation, but that, at least in my opinion, is completely separate from die rolling.
Once the dice are cast, the results are what they are.

That is what I have for Ewell. BTW, whatever you linked for those characters, I dont have access to. Was it a valid link?

Actually, that's good to know. They're links to a private "DM" forum which you shouldn't have access to, but I'll edit my post to remove the links anyway.

Yep, looks good to me.
I see we have TWO rangers in the party now? Which reminds me that someone has never posted his character sheet... Raven...

dmw71 wrote: I like to avoid in-game rule changes, but I am going to eliminate the "lose your next turn" aspect of the critical misses (see rule update, here: 08. Critical Hits and Misses). It's too difficult to track, especially when there's typically at least a full day between actions. Note that the potential for weapon breakage is still in play (sorry, onlyme!), but the loss of your next round is not.
Honestly Dave, I think it should be reconsidered. (And not because it happened to me...Promise) A 20 gives you a 35% (for a tohit of 14 +-bonus or AC adjust) chance of 1.5 X max damage and a 5% chance of 2x. A normal to hit should equal .5 max bonus. It seems logical that a 1 would equal a zero for the next round, to keep them somewhat balanced. What is rather scary is that with a 1, you then have a 32.5% chance (same tohit of 14+- adjustments) to break your weapon. That seems way too harsh compared to the benefits of a 20...
I will do some detailed probability analysis to check it out, but going through it was eye opening how easy it is to happen...
edit after a quick excel session...
we have a 1.63% chance of breakage, a 1.75% chance of the 1.5 or double max damage. This is based on having to roll a 14 to hit, which I think is average. I dont think a 9-12 dam score on an arrow or a 12-16 on a longsword = losing a weapon in the field, especially at roughly the same odds.

My deciding to eliminate the lost action was more due to the difficulty in tracking it. A natural 20 results in an immediate second roll to determine whether the hit was critical or not. A natural 1 also requires an immediate second roll, but since its affects don't take place until the following round, I'm finding it difficult to keep track of. Keep in mind, I'm keeping track of the actions for all monsters each round, too.
