Nehru smiles at the elf as he departs, puffing his chest out proudly now that he has secured a real boon for the security of his town.Xaxyx wrote:Glansandi Storeyja
"It seems, Mr. Nehru, that you have no shortage of stalwart adventurers seeking to thwart this Captain Bing," Glansandi says, glancing over the swelling group. "I wish them luck in their attempt. Should they fail, however, the town must be capable of defending itself against retaliation. It is my responsibility to see to that. If you all will excuse me." With a curt nod to Mr. Nehru, Glansandi attempts to make his way through the now crowded office and out of the Hi-Lo, Jombo in tow.
"Thank you Glansandi.....Jombo! Do keep me informed of your progress, wont you? I will put a few ideas together for your tabard design for you to look over once they are ready."
"I definitely do NOT want war, with those thugs, or anyone else! We came here to settle a peaceful, accepting community, where anyone could come to live out their lives in harmony, without fear of oppression. It hurts my heart to hear that some of the native inhabitants have been taken advantage of here. That is why I think it might be a priority to deal with this thug sooner than later."tomlowshang wrote:Gwethglersinwen Larendirina
Gwen sighs and says to Wes, "Looks like Nehru wants war."
"Mr Nehru, I hope you know what you are doing. I will help because you've declared Bing to be a priority. My skills are meagre but I will do what I can."
"Furthermore, I will consider anyone who helps with putting a stop to these slavers worthy of a decent reward for their troubles!"

The druid addresses the diminutive elf. "I hear on the grapevine you wish to go hunting, Gwen. I am a hunter of small skill myself, and am planning to make a trip. Do you wish to go with me? Before I go, I need to make a new spear. For that I need a small tree and a dagger. Do you have a dagger, by any chance?"
"On top of that, I need to talk to the monkoons and get their permission to hunt in their land. I hope they'll allow me to do so. Once I have finished talking to Mr Nehru, that is what i intend to do".
Gwen brightens at the mention of the Monkoons.
She says to Wes, "I am not a hunter but I wanted to tag along with Luther as-" she looks for a word, "-support, shall we say. Hunting alone in hostile Jungle seems risky, no matter how skilled one is."
She considers Wes' offer, then says, "In all honesty, I doubt I can contribute much to Chauncey's party, so I accept your offer. And, yes, I have a dagger you may borrow."

As the room begins to clear out, Mr. Nehru awaits his chance to talk more about the plan to get water to town and grow better crops.
"Waterwheel?" He says under his breath over and over.

Re: Hi-Lo (mercantile)
After listening to Glansandi introduce his newest recruit, Mr. Nehru says hello.
"Welcome to the island, master Greff. I trust that the Constable is treating you right so far?"
Once shown Jombo's rock and told about the nearby structures, He responds with a simple question to his new guards.
"Did you find any tracks leading to or from these structures that might give you a clue as to who constructed them?"

Glansandi shakes his head. "Nothing obvious," he says. "Perhaps on one of our patrols our new recruit here, who has some training in scouting, can inspect for such tracks. But I don't suggest that we try to follow them to their source," he adds. "The structures seem harmless enough, for now. And our time is best served protecting the town."
A thought occurs to him. "Mr. Nehru, do you happen to have any broken or worn out weapons or weapon parts we could have?" Glansandi asks. "We're hoping to do a bit of training now and then, and loose scraps of wood seem to be rather hard to come by around here."

Nehru tries to speak with authority.
"Very well then. I don't suspect the structures pose much of a threat at the moment. Do keep me informed of any changes though."
The thin human walks over to a small closet and opens it. The entire inside is filled with ragged, torn, and rusted adventuring gear.
"This stuff was all found out there. Folks came across it and brought it back here, hoping they could sell it back to me for a few coins. Most of it I try to resell, but if I recognize it and remember who bought it, I can't bring myself to resell it again. So I store it in here. As you can see, I don't maintain it at all, so feel free to use any of it that you need, Constable."
There are a few light cloaks and some other articles of clothing. A backpack, belt pouch, and some other bags lie on the floor. In the corner rest some rusty swords and daggers that look to be low quality blades. A beat up hand ax and spear rest in the other corner, in front of a bent metal shield.

Glansandi's eyes light up at what is, at least for his purposes, a treasure trove. "Some of these will do nicely, I'm sure," he says, poking about. "We can blunt the sturdier blades, and just hew off the hafts of what's beyond recovery." He briefly inspects the hand ax before giving it to Jombo, making sure that the head is still firmly affixed to the handle. He then picks up the spear and sets it aside. "This can make for a good practice stick if we cut the end off," he says. "Or maybe two, if we chop it in half." Next, he nods to Greff. "Now, let's you and I see if we can recover blades from here comparable to our own in size and weight." He begins rummaging through the blades, looking for anything approximately long sword sized or bigger, that could be used as a practice weapon -- either for himself, or for Greff, whose weapon is somewhat larger -- that still has a sufficiently sturdy core in both the pommel and the length of the blade, despite the rust and lack of maintenance.
Lastly, he pokes about at the daggers, performing a similar search.

Greff
The ranger will help rumaging through the pile of weapons looking for a suitable blade if he's able to, afterwards he'll help gather up the rest to take back to the guards quarters.
"Thank you for the supplies sir." he says to Nehru.

Re: Hi-Lo (mercantile)
There is a total of 1 broadsword, 2 longswords, 1 scimitar, 2 shortswords, and 4 daggers. All of them are of poor quality and in some state of disrepair.
"You are welcome to any of it, I don't like knowing it's there."
He pulls one gold coin from his pocket and hands it to Greff on his way past. "I have paid your mates for their first week in advance, so I will do the same for you. But from then on, you will be paid after putting in a week of work."

The Ranger tucks the coin away in his pocket patting it. "Understood sir, thank you for your generosity."

Mr. Nehru waves the newcomer to the island into his humble office. The shoulder lengthed salt and pepper haired, brown skinned, beanpole of a human sits at a rather ornately carved desk that he seems to admire very much.
"You are in luck master elf, for I have just heard of a private shack that has opened up this very morning! Say, are you the fellow who was out hunting with Wes the nature priest last evening?"

Re: Hi-Lo (mercantile)
Mr. Nehru and Marge can be found on the front steps of the Hi-Lo, speaking quietly to each other and waiting to hear what the druid Wes has to say about the enigmatic and entrepreneurial newcomer to their little town.
Re: Hi-Lo (mercantile)
Wes
Wes appears a short time later and, once Liam arrives, begins his address.
"Now, some of you will know that a few days ago I proposed building an aqueduct between here and the river to improve our water supply. A difficult task to be sure, but one that I thought was necessary and at least a slight improvement over the current situation".
"The arrival of Liam and his animals has brought this problem to the fore again. His animals will need more water. Now, he does have a cart that will help bring in more water, true. But there are predators out there that will be attracted to that cart. Pterry almost certainly will be. And that cart will be harder and slower to hide in the trees than a group of Marge's ladies. I think it won't be the long term answer to the problem."
"Last night, I received a vision from my lord, Obad Hai, who grants me these powers that help me serve the people of Beachtown. In this vision, he revealed the answer to me. A very difficult answer. But the only one that is going to work in the long run: we have to move the town close to the river."
"It is going to be difficult. But we have little water here, the game and fish around here are almost all gone, and the ground here is too salty to grow things. All of these things will be different down at the river. And without having to make their daily trek, Marge and her ladies can put their productive time to use around town, growing more food, and making living conditions better for everyone."
"I'm not saying we have to pack up and go tomorrow. But I think we need to start working on a plan to do so."
Wes finally stops. He looks at his audience. "What do you think?"

Before a word escapes the mouths of Nehru or Liam, Marge lets out an emphatic "YES! I love that idea!!!" She then smiles and winks at the half-elf for suggesting it.
Nehru also has a thought about this idea, but I want to hear Liam's response first.

Sorry this has proven to be a hard day to get on here.
The wiry man grins lopsidedly like an old ragged wolf. Funny you mention that. I was just asking about why hadn't irrigation ditches and the like not been tried, but honestly, if there is nothing stopping us other than what appears to be an unused logging trail from staying here, surely we can muster the men and ladies of this town to the task of moving. Fresh water usually means more game for hunting and better richer soil for farming. I believe this sounds like a good plan. So here is my question. What has stopped everyone from doing this before?
