The recently exgolemenated Camelote and Ramrod spring into action to rescue their comrade, Flintlock, only to immediately fall prey to the same trap. Both are frozen in ecstatic attitudes as they begin to float upwards. However, Flintlock manages to belch forth a great cloud smoke before his enraptment.
The smoke swirls around Flintlock, confounding his senses, and leaving him uncertain as to whether he is looking at the floor or ceiling. Still desperate to join the heavenly tumult, Flintlock swats at the air, managing to turn himself around to face what he thinks is the ceiling, but is, in fact, the actual floor. The sway of the ceiling thus broken, he falls to the ground.
Alright, let's see here: I think it took Horton and Wikerus 4 turns to climb the stairs at maximum speed. Brick and Langtson were caught by the ceiling in the third round, and took one round to float up into it. So floating speed is equivalent to running up the stairs. The stairs climb the 90' of the height, so that's about 22' of elevation per round. Flintlock has been floating for one round, now. We'll call that 2d6 damage. [2d6] = 7
This eliminates all of Flintlock's hp, and 1 point of STR.
Check for Critical Damage (Current STR: 2): [1d20] = 9
With a leaden thump, Flintlock crashes into the ground. He is alive, undetonated, and unconscious. The arrangement of his limbs induces queasiness in any observers.
Camelote and Ramrod continue to ascend.
Jake, Deet, and Schroff make their way up the stairs, eyes averted.
Shaggy, Mouse, and Vanis maintain their current station in a puddle of blood.
Wikerus:
The shelves and the obscured mural are very long, but the shelves are empty enough that it is easy to get a fairly decent view of the picture, especially if you walk some distance from the shelves. It is a scene. There are crowds of figures to the left and right had edges, framing a generally open area and three central figures. There are phylacteries, ribbons with speech, emanating from the central figures' mouths.
The desk has a few shallow drawers. They are locked.

Oh dear!
Flintlock lays in an unnaturally tangled heap at the foot of the stairs, his flesh turning various shades of blacks and blues.

Sorry, man!
Ramrod floats into the air, unaware of all else. He fixes his hat to be ready for the angelic entities that beckon him upward.

Splinter has all his marbles back and hearing the big crash peers at the poor broken body. Perhaps we can fix this metal thing. Perhaps we can. Oy! But what about the battle? The giant rats? The lost wizard? The Princess? Sometimes I wish I was still dreaming about being an army messenger boy... Suddenly he stops, staring at the floor. What am I doing here? Is there a metal dwarf inside my wooden body? But then he looks at Flintlock again and decided to make a run for it: rushing towards the heap of dwarf, quickly assembling the limbs he can find, and trying to carry it all upstairs. He also pulls down his fancy hat, trying to make sure he'll never look at the ceiling.

Horton looks at Wikerus for any reaction or input on what the scene could mean. He then inspects the central scene more closely to see what is being said or the intent of the painted scene.

GM:
Wikerus is curious - very, very, very curious about the potential contents of the desk. But it's such a finely appointed thing, the skill in the carving making him vaguely wistful. He can't bring himself quite yet to try to force it open. He scans around for any sort of key, feeling underneath the desk, too, but, failing some key-related revelation, he decides to approach and further inspect the curious speech balloons emanating from the mouths of the central figures in the mural.

Deet, Schroff, and Jake, eyes assiduously averted, reach the top of the stairs. The hatch is open before them. It is all they can do to resist the riot of angels, and it is very hard to focus on anything else. I think the three of you are at max hp, but, if not, you gain 2 hp from your exposure to the heavenly light.
Splinters hauls up the broken tangle of the unconscious Flintlock, and begins to trudge up the stairs. Vanis, still dazed from the blow to his head, begins to follow Splinters.
Ramrod and Camelote have risen to the halfway point between floor and ceiling. They feel wonderful.
It appears that no one is attempting rescue Ramrod or Camelote from their elevating plight, nor to tend to Shaggy and Mouse. Shall I fast-forward the survivors up to the top of the stairs or play their last moments out round-by-round?
To those entering the next room:
You find yourself in a large room, much like the Tower segment below. It is circular, except for one segment where the curving wall becomes flat. This flat segment is lined with shelves. The shelves are largely empty, although there are a few very brittle-looking books stacked here and there. Through the shelves, you see a mural painted on the wall behind it.
There is a desk placed in front of the shelves, with a single chair. The desk bears a writing set: a very dry inkwell, nib holders, pen knife, wax, and seals, all set in small compartments in a lacquered tray. The desk has a few shallow drawers. They are locked.
The entire floor is otherwise empty. The dust is entirely undisturbed, except for a clear trail of tracks left by Wikerus.
After tentative exploration with your peripheral vision, you are pleased to see that the ceiling here is not another riot of putti, but red velvet tapestry.

Wikerus, torn between investigating the painting and looking for a key to the desk, finds a curious confluence: There are glints of metal near the center of the painting. It looks as though the figures are holding keys—actual metal keys sunk into the plaster surface of the fresco. The shelves prevent reaching them, however. The keys look rather too large for the locks in the desk, however.

Map update, for those upstairs...
Did anyone else die/ascend/disappear downstairs? Let me know if missed anything/one.
And actions upstairs...
Deet, suspicious after all the animate wood downstairs, pokes at the desk and its drawers with his musket tip, while Schroff suspiciously sniffs at its legs. Should these investigations prove it apparently harmless, the valiant mutt lifts his leg and marks the desk as his.

Jake
How bad do we want those keys? Jake says, hefting his maul.

The Crooked Thoedolite:
Map update, for those upstairs...
A quick correction on the map: The only stairs are the ones leading up from below.
This room is also 90' high, just like the basement level below it. It is exactly as wide, except for the flat wall which forms a tangent across the circlular plan.
Horton had expressed some interest in the nature of the hatch, but was not able to see it properly below. It is now apparent that the hatch you came through is set within a larger hatch, similar to the door-within-a-door by which you entered the Tower.

Camelote
Camelote, having reconfigured his disparate parts back into the semblance of a man-shape, floats sprawled out with his back to the ground. He slowly removes his 'hat' holding it over his chest and wipes a non-existent tear from his not-quite-real eyes.
He says with such wonder while sobbing with the sound of falling screws, "Rammy, me thinks this might be the grandest invitation I have ever received.", and then this is followed by joyous sobbing.

GM:
Wikerus examines the arrangement of the shelves to see if he might be able to heft himself up onto one of them in order to access the keys. "Keys!" he says. "Never leave one unturned! Or unremoved from a mural. A very important part of adventurous exploration... I would expect." Seeing the raised maul he adds, "Don't think you'll have much luck breaking a giant shelf with your merely relatively large hammer, sir." if he can find a way he starts clambering up...

I misread- I thought we could reach the keys easily.
Jake boosts Wilkerus so he can get to the keys.

Seeing only part of their group enter the room, Horton asks, where are the others? He will listen for a response but is already moving back out to the stairs to only look down and see where the others are. If he sees a situation where he can assist then he will move to help bring others up to the room.

Ramrod begins to weep as well, with tears of sulfur. He withdraws a lace handkerchief and clears his nose with the sound of a gunshot.
'Hmmmmmmmindupitably. As the Philosopher would say, as it were, "Mein Gott, es ist voller Sterne!" Or to that effect.'

Flintlock remains unconscious, groaning slightly with each passing step. He murmurs senslessly, Lies... Lies of the angels.

Splinters definitely wants to rescue everybody. Move people into the heavenly light, face down, grab the next one, trudge up the stairs again, etc.! And if I see a rope, and can see a floating friend, I'll try to rope them in, I think Splinters is not fast enough.
And Splinters will continue doing that until they are all dead, saved, or the door crashes open.
Seeing only part of their group enter the room, Horton asks, where are the others? He will listen for a response but is already moving back out to the stairs to only look down and see where the others are. If he sees a situation where he can assist then he will move to help bring others up to the room.
Horton spots Splinters valiantly struggling to haul the leaden figure of Flintlock up 90 feet of stairs, and goes to join him. They lay the figure out under the golden light. They soon collect Shaggy, Mouse, and Vanis, depositing them alongside Flintlock in range of the ceiling's recuperative glow.
Vanis WIL: 5.[1d20] = 9
Vanis, in his daze, recovers enough to immediately look up at the light. He takes to the air, and, from the close distance, is almost instantly embraced by the arms of a bowler-wearing putti.
Shaggy and Mouse are back up to maximum hp. Shaggy is still suffering STR loss. Mouse can roll on the Scars table and roll an additional d6 hp! However, as they are just waking from unconsciousness, they will need to roll a WIL check, unless Splinters and Horton restrain you in some way. They are presently face down on the stairs.
Ramrod and Camelote, in tearful reverie, leave this world as mysteriously as they entered it. Somewhere in the heavens, twenty-one blunderbusses sound, and are then silent. Boy howdy, that has got to be a record. I invite you roll up another character! PM me!
Meanwhile, upstairs...
Deet may be relived to know that the desk does not respond in any way to either prodding or possessive micturition.
As Wikerus begins to climb the shelves, he finds the boards are only loosely pegged into the supports. They are too flimsy to climb safely, but they are removed easily. Enough of the fresco is soon revealed to see the area around the keys:
The chipped and faded painting depicts a theatrical stage, littered with an eclectic assortment of improbable and no-doubt highly symbolic props. Towards the wings of the stage are gathered great crowds of figures in equally significance-begging costumery. In the center of the composition stand three figures, actors dressed as women—a maiden with a spindle of silver thread, a mature woman with a basket of lots, and a crone with shears. Each has a ribbon painted around their necks, leading to a silver metal key, embedded in the surface of the wall. From each mouth unfurls a phylactery.
The Maiden: "Heed, lusty seeker of unopened paths—my key opens your grave, unless Lachesis speaks true. Then, my path welcomes you most sweetly." The Woman: "Of we three, poor actors and ill-fated, at least two speak their lines falsely." The Crone: "Wouldst thou seek kisses from a skull? My key opens the path you seek, unless Lachesis speak false. Then, I offer only death."
Actions! Next post: Friday evening, around 9pm EDT, Saturday 1am GMT
EDIT: Flintlock, newly bereaved, is also now conscious and with hp restored, but still suffering STR damage. Being aware of the ceiling's effect, he does not need a WIL check upon awaking.
