Re: Take Two...
Flambeau will run up and get into range of the enemy to attempt to turn the ghast-like lizard creatures. He presents his Holy symbol out in front of him.
May the fire of The Lord burn you from existence!
Auto turn anything 7HD or less. Let me know if I should be making these rolls.

Re: Take Two...
While holding his shield for defense, Arqos sheathes Flare for a moment, retrieves a potion of super-heroism, and downs it before again drawing his sword.

Your character can join the fight with the ghasts, stay to receive additional healing, or do something creative.

Come on in to the battle against the Messenger! The water is...well, really dangerous, but what else is a big strong fighter with a great axe going to do?chap126 wrote:
Just leave the ghasts alone, at least for now, since we don't want to break the turning effect.
Re: Take Two...
Hollis steps towards the "lady", holy symbol aloft and steady:
"Begone foulness, back to whence you came!"
He attempts to turn.
In case you need a roll:
Turn Attempt [1d20] = 17

Olaf nods his thanks to the healer, and charges to attack some of the ghasts if any aren't turned.

Date: Autumn, 432 ca., Campaign Day 10
Time: 12:40.6
Weather: 50 degrees
Location: Steading Dungeon - Rockpile
************************
Magic in Effect: Lorath - Levitate
Prayer - cast round 5 (60' radius'+1/-1 to rolls)
PfE 10' from Arqos
Elemental
Arqos - potion of super heroism
**************************
The monsters continue their hot hand with the initiative, this time winning it by a wide margin - acting almost immediately, while the party is sluggish in their response.
Two ghasts continue their desperate attacks against Arqos, while two more lope forward and fall upon Gaerys. A final two fall in behind the line of four, growling and hissing for a taste of adventurer flesh. The ghasts' attacks are vicious, but the heroes' skill is formidable...they manage to fend off all of the attacks!!!
Gaerys returns the favor, badly wounding one of the ghasts before him. He is unable to reach the Messenger. Arqos, covered by his shield, consumes a potion.
A - please note the effects of the potion in your next turn.
Flambeau hurtles himself over the rockpile and brings his holy symbol to bear. The six undead horrors cower in the presence of the LORD OF LIGHT and prepare to flee. THE GHASTS HAVE BEEN TURNED!
Just as Hollis arrives to turn her, Vorsyin's "wife", appearing satiated in the most profane of ways, takes a step back and completely vanishes from view. Would she remain in the fray, only emerge again? Or was she simply pursuing her own ends? The party is left wondering...
Olaf also scales the rockpile and lands at the edge of the fray. He passes Lorath, who shouts out a desperate evocation in a wise attempt to prevent the Messenger from casting another spell. The magic missile zips towards the Messenger, zeroes in on its target...then dissipates harmlessly just as it strikes the mysterious creature.
ETA: Ethan manages to evade a strike from the marsh giant, and return with a pair of slashes. The giant is wounded but still very much in the fight.
Meanwhile, the Messenger, having taken a step back to make way for the ghasts, and growls a brief incantation in an unknown tongue. It then holds its free hand up as if to say "halt". Gaerys, Arqos, and Ethan feel their muscles seize, though each of them asserts their considerable willpower to try and resist the foul magics...
Arqos, Ethan and Gaerys, save v. spells please at A and G at +3 --- Ethan at +1
Vorsyin desperately completes an incantation necessary to take back control over the elemental. He feels the psychic connection re-establish itself with the spirit of Earth.
Please mark off the spells that are lost due to level loss.
From the long hallway straight east re-emerges another giantish foe -- the evil priest adorned in a purple robe. The servant of whatever horrid deity calls out in a guttural growl and projects the darkness forward at the elemental. The elemental instantly crumbles into dust...the magic holding it to this plane dispelled
Finally, from the north east, another threat emerges...another group of reptilian ghasts slither and lope towards the party, frighteningly quickly...
Declare Actions!!!

Re: Take Two...
WOW! That was damn ugly!
Given that they are standing more or less next to each other, the wand can be tossed as a "free action" subject to a dex check for Lorath to catch the wand being tossed.
The casters still have some juice here....the wand, dispel magic, turning, wall of fire, magic missile, etc. This fight is far from over.
BTW, if folks are not going to make the rolls for their characters, that is fine -- I will do so.

Re: Take Two...
I only have Hold Person and that wont be effective against giants so melee is the way forward
Hollis moves over the rocks to turn the newly appeared ghasts. He again raises his Holy Symbol and confronts the undead.

Re: Take Two...
Flambeau
Once he sees the power of the oncoming cleric, Flam will cast his Silence spell. Not on his person but on the disgusting purple robes the creature wears.
if he continues to advance on us this might affect the BBEG as well!?!

Re: Take Two...
The situation is grim. Just as Vorsyin feels the connection to the elemental take hold the creature is sent back to its home plane.
Drained and in poor health Vorsyin tries his best to buy the group some time. Lorath!! he yells and tosses him the wand of lightning.
As soon as it leaves his hand he attempts to bring up a Wall of Fire directly in front of Ethan to block out the giant, reptilian ghasts and the marsh giant caster further down the hall.
He knows that there is a risk to Ethan but it is one he will take for the good of the whole party.
What do I put Vorsyin's xp to after a level drain?
I also removed Dig and Interposing Hand as two spells lost through the drain.

Ethan, Arqos, and Gaerys are all held by the terrible magic of the Messenger. Perhaps moved by their desperate circumstances, the party takes a narrow (1 seg) initiative. That time remains critical in the firefight that the battle has become.
Vorsyin tosses* his wand to Lorath, who catches it deftly, then fires a lightning bolt, aimed carefully to catch both the marsh giant attacking Ethan and the foul priest behind him. As the "toss" is being made, the marsh giant casts its horrid face into some type of twisted smile, knowing that its deadly foe has been rendered helpless. Ethan cannot flinch or even blink as the giant's club swings around to smash Ethan's head. Mercifully, the fighter feels nothing as he crumbles before the giant to the ground.
Giant scores hit on prone opponent! ETHAN DOWN!!!
Just as the blow lands, the lightning bolt pops and crackles through the flesh of Ethan's attacker, as well as the evil priest, likely spoiling whatever foul magic the latter foe was casting. The bolt is very weak [13 damage rolled!]...but enough to bring down the already weakened giant attacking Ethan! The priest is but slightly wounded. It collects itself and prepares for its next act.
*1 seg, so Lorath's acts come simultaneously with the giants.
Olaf charges the Messenger. Bloodlust clouds the eyes of the brave fighter, as his heavy swing goes amiss. The Messenger's plans to continue taking out party members one at a time are undeterred. The servant of THE OTHER again calls his shadow flail into being and sends a heavy blow towards Lorath. It connects with a sickening crunch! The spellsword tumbles lifeless and broken on top of the rockpile!!
LORATH DOWN!!!
The Messenger's glowing eyes fix onto the wounded Olaf...
Hollis bravely scrambles over the rockpile and holds his medallion of the Old Gods high. The ghasts -- all of them -- cower at the power of the Old Gods, and prepare to flee.
DM fudged the time it takes to climb a bit. If you would like to roll for turning, give me a d20 and a 2d6. Then again, I rolled an 18 and a 12, so you might want to stick with the hot hand!
Flambeau takes a step or so forward and casts silence upon the robes of the foul priest, smartly nullifying any chance the priest would have to save itself from the Lord of Light.
But an instant later, Vorsyin's spell goes into effect! A scorching inferno forms a wall between the party, and the ghasts and giants. The ghasts shriek out from its midst and an indescribably horrid stench bellows from the flames. Ethan is spared the "Kjelti treatment" by way of Vorsyin's precise placement and Frostfell protecting its wielder.
The party is battered and weakened -- but seem to have only one foe remaining....though that foe is a formidable one.
