Got a whole play through of the boardgame I can send you (with turn maps). If the Out World Coalition don't elect "Moronic" as per their (canonical and frankly bonkers) strategy you get just a little more than the original "Pearl Harbour" model...

As an aside having studied and admired the US Navy's Pacific Campaign it so mirrors the Royal Navy's painful evolution on the cusp of the Napoleonic wars. On the same route we shot an Admiral* while the WW2 US Navy ruthlessly prosecuted the same route via Darwinian selection and magnificently "Nelsonic" aggression.

* Admiral John Byng in 1757 and then famously Voltaire's commentary "pour encourager les autres".

I'd love to see the FFW play through!

King and Nimitz were brilliant fighters. Essex carriers, a working submarine torpedo and proximity fuses didn't hurt!

As for the FFW we use our stealth ship to off the Joe brass

I have no intention of actually prosecuting the war. Even if it wasn’t two and a half years out gamewise. Doesn’t mean there can’t be sneaky spy stuff going on.

I am a huge FFW fan. Don't they have a TL-16 merc unit? And a monster WWII fan as well.

Okay, now that sounds interesting. A TL-16 merc company? I could use that. Oh, and I might throw the Aslan invasion early. Because reasons.

I forget the background on the counter.

I don't think the Aslan would have been so successful as mega traveler portrayed

Aslan just aren't in the FFW (boardgame) but Vargr are! ;)

I'm not sure Trojan Reach etc were even a thing when the board game was created. The Pacific Campaign was the inspiration/template for the GW campaign. I'll dig out what I have and post/PM it dependent on size.

From memory I think there is a (Darrian?) high tech merc counter and the (so naughty) TL 14 Fulacin Battalion Zho "Fifth Column" counter as characterful units.

Also one of the Imperial Commanders is so bad that they need to draw the "Emperor's Letter" to depose him! (This based on Napoleon's issue (pre campaign! ;) ) of the same authority to his Marshal "advising" his (amateur General) brother commanding one of his Corps invading Russia in 1812).

Here's a FFW game map showing the (relatively small) section of the Marches featuring in the war.

If anyone wants a better zoomable image I can mail it to you.
Auto Zho Victory.JPG
Auto Zho Victory.JPG (748.26 KiB) Viewed 191 times
This is the stage where in my replay of the electronic version of the game the Auto victory conditions kicked in for the OutWorld Coalition.

The Zho have besieged/screened Efate and Regina (but don’t need to take them). They’ve given the Swordies just enough help to take Lanth but not so much that they come to Imperial attention and get squished. Likewise the Vargr have been looting like its 1999 (and scoring Victory points galore – in captured planet Tech Levels if I recall).

The Zho main effort was through the neutral zone heading for Regina and collecting a chunk of Lanth subsector and linking up with the Sword World effort. Their secondary thrust took Jewell subsector and high scoring worlds there (see the ground troops left as garrison forces on previously Imperial border fortress worlds). The pale blue Ine Givar insurgents are still active and being a right nuisance to the Imperials while acting as “pathfinders” for the Vargr and Zho Fleets.

For Terry: The "different orange/buff" counter near Dinom is one of the Merc ground force units [Strength 1 TL 14 armoured (grav) cavalry] a regular TL 15 Imperial unit is of the same type (red on white counter) garrisoning Yori.

It’s a hard game for the Imperials if the Zho play “inscrutably smart” instead of “daft” as per GDW canon. The Imperial Black Globe fleets are on route from Core but in this game it’s too late!

That's pretty cool. As for this game, I wouldn't be shocked if you guys happened upon some clues it was coming. Where that might lead, well, no one knows.

Going dark to write. I'll be back this afternoon to see what I can respond to. Once we wrap up the meeting, if there is nothing more that the characters need to do, we can jump ahead to Aki. I'll need your training goals for the jump, and that's in the main thread. If you have anything else you're doing during jump, I'll need to know about it.

Yes. Done in the AutoDoc, you will need to spend some time under the slow drug to recover and so will be out for that day.

Would you want anything in addition to the below? The PRIS vision can be done without the neural jack, but it will be more difficult for you to process and will take significant practice to become used to it. Metz will suggest you have the Autodoc at least install the Neural Jack, but that's Jaelah's call.

Peripheral Vision Enhancement: This augment enhances the depth and acuity of standard, far and mid-peripheral vision. It confers DM +1 bonus to Initiative rolls and Recon checks made to spot unusual or hidden objects.

PRIS vision: At tech level 19, he does not need to replace the eyes. Additional sensors are added to augment nature and this all ties into your neural jack to display everything. It extends vision into infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths and beyond and provides passive light amplification. A PRIS sensor grants the IR/UV Vision trait and includes the functionality of a Geiger counter. It can be recorded.

Ballistic Tracking: The Traveller’s retinas are laced with tiny receptors, outlining any object targeted by the Traveller’s weapon. Ballistic tracking grants the Traveller DM+1 on all ranged attacks where they can physically see the target but cannot be combined with scopes or other sighting aids.

Arkar has voiced (at least to himself) about immediate cyber surgery, but are external arguments that are available?

360 degree glasses, attachments to his extra appendages et cetra.

BTW, neat game, I miss the old day of Panzer Leader/Blitz and so on.

Eris, you were talking getting some augments. That was discussed in detail in the Aki thread via a link, and if you want something like Walt and Metz have, or something lesser, or nothing at all, I need to know before life eats you up. Garvin called you a Luddite, and this is your chance to show him! ;)

I played a lot of Panzer Blitz/Leader back in the 70's. Followed on with Tobruk (not great), Arab/Israeli Wars (better) and Squad Leader (great). I really preferred the more strategic level games, though, like D-Day, Midway, 1776, Origins of WW2, oh and Blitzkrieg. Yeah, I liked Blue vs Red on a great big continent. Heck! I go back to Gettysburg and Tactics II with AH games and that was mid-60's. Did y'all ever play The Perfect General over modem? Flawed in 1 player, but a lot of fun in 2 player mode. :) That was the last "war game" I played, though. I considered the internet version of The Perfect General, but never picked it up.
