OOC II
Re: OOC II
Who would have known that this sandbox Harnmaster tryout should turn into a full blown campaign. Thank you Rex for making this possible, and for all the great things you do here and to this community! Having the great Island of Harn come to life with the massive amount of information that exists for this setting is no small task, but you manage to pull it off in such a great way. I really enjoy being back on Harn, thanks for making that happen!
Re: OOC II
Spot on and well said! Thanks, Rex.
Re: OOC II
My pleasure, I am not sure I always do the best job with describing things but it has been fun and will hopefully continue to be. Thanks for playing and giving Harn a chance.
Re: OOC II
Rex, let's talk about clothing styles. In the 1200's, many men wore long, loose tunics and such. On Gerolt's character sheet, there a suit of "formal clothing". Is it available, and in the time we have available, would it work for Eldura? The advantages for us are pretty easy; tunics were loose, and Gerolt and Eldura are close in size. He is 3 inches taller, 4 pounds lighter (not something he would mentionsastaz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 5:00 pm Eldura eyes Sir Gerolt, maybe to judge if he is being serious or not. Finally, she says:
"Fine, sure, I will go along. I am quite well versed in conversing with the gentry mind you. In these rags, everyone will think me a chambermaid though, at best. But, there's not much to be done about that here and now, I fear. Even if there's a seamstress or clothier around here, it will take days, or weeks, to have a dress ready. I will follow along and stay a bit back, okay?"

Take a scarf and make a sash, and set her up on the palfry. Any issues would get passed off as "she just killed a drake, what do you expect?"
On a totally meta-gaming note, Gerolt is helping Eldura because he's a nice guy, and chivalrous. He's not expecting anything, nor is he planning on trying anything. Of course, if she succeeds, it makes him look all the better. SInce he's talking about leading a village, and maybe starting a chapter house, etc, etc, those sorts of advantages are useful.

Re: OOC II
I am sure you could make something work.
If interested, this is a god article on clothing on Harn.

Re: OOC II
Question is, does Gerolt know, or even care, that Turnip more or less grew up in the Palace of the Floating Moon in Aleath? I mean, my interpretation of Harn culture is that attitudes towards Halean temples vary wildly. The Aleath article does mention that the Palace is popular but (officially?) frowned upon by the merchant class. Locally, at least.Leitz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 6:04 pm On a totally meta-gaming note, Gerolt is helping Eldura because he's a nice guy, and chivalrous. Re: OOC II
Unless she is very tight lipped about it, then given the length of time that they have spent together, I would say yes, he knows. PbP is often just the highlights, and Eldura has mentioned Halea more than once.sastaz wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2023 12:47 pmQuestion is, does Gerolt know, or even care, that Turnip more or less grew up in the Palace of the Floating Moon in Aleath?Leitz wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 6:04 pm On a totally meta-gaming note, Gerolt is helping Eldura because he's a nice guy, and chivalrous. I'm not sure what sort of personality Gerolt had before I started playing. However, I'm trying to portray him as a nice, fun guy. He is serious about his calling as a knight and his duties as a noble. Yet he can laugh and jest. He can go to a low cost inn and not grump about the service or the floor. He can get along with people who are not like him, as long as they don't try to hurt him or his friends.
Turnip didn't freak out and run during the drake fight, she moved closer! In Gerolt's mind, she is a valiant and awesome woman. He'd love for her to join his church, and maybe even become a knight. But he respects her bravery enough to like her even if she doesn't follow his path. She can probably see that if someone harasses her, Gerolt will stand for her. He considers her a friend.
Given Eldura's high level of Intrigue, she can probably also see what he's doing with the outpost and the village rebuild. Chysbia produces and exports food. Gerolt isn't a farmer, but he can protect farmers who would make Chysbia stronger. He isn't a dwarf, either, but if dwarves fortify the outpost in Chysbian territory, then Chysbia becomes stronger. He isn't an Ivanian, but respects their warrior nature. Building the village with the support of Ivanians makes everyone more likely to succeed; their strength of character is something he deeply respects.
She can also probably guess that while Gerolt is trying to improve his own station, he has limits on what he's interested in. Being a baron is not his goal, but being a more affluent and influential knight/noble is.
Addendum Added "he knows" to the end of the first sentence, since two questions were asked. The first sentence deals with if he knows, the rest of the post answers how he feels about it.
Re: OOC II
Oh yeah! It'll take me a little bit, but I think I have the way Gerolt will approach the presentation.

Re: OOC II
Now, it's going to be embarrassing if I fail my 55% tongues roll.
Could I call upon the Elkyri Easlyn to help boost my tongues roll?

Re: OOC II
Yes, but you could also spend some piety as well. Upto 20 points, each point gives you +1.
Re: OOC II
All good, I didn't think to post the baron giving you the go ahead but he was good with your oath. As for the 99 roll, they happen and will be more of a difficulty in communication in this case.
As an aside I played in Kallen's FTF HarnMaster game Sunday and I rolled back to back 00 in combat. Stuff happens.
Re: OOC II
Ouch.
I just realised there was meant to be a bard. Oh well, sorry.

Re: OOC II
No worries, Arngeir did better than Gerolt would have. We didn't have/make time for the bard, and I think that's okay. It means we get the advantage of new news, and that's always more interesting.
Re: OOC II
I am heading to work, feel free to post if you want to add anything. I will check in after work.
Re: OOC II
I'm thinking the outpost will function as a sort of keep, or last defense, for our upcoming village? If we need to improve defenses, maybe a palisade would do? Stone is expensive and construction of even a simple structure could take many many years, with experts having to travel there.
Re: OOC II
That depends on how much support we get from the baron. The keep is a distance from the village, it would be better to build a palisade around the village and also renovate the keep. That way the two could support each other, and attackers would have to either split their forces or worry about an attack from the other.
Re: OOC II
Hopefully the intent of Gerolt's comment about Eldura not being from Chysbia makes sense. He is saying that she isn't like other "ladies", but can deal with topics like threat analysis and not spending a lot of money. My guess is that most people will think there is some link between Eldura and Gerolt; he is neither confirming nor denying. That should make those who wish to approach her do so thoughtfully, which is what he wants.
Re: OOC II
Makes sense.
I am spreading stone on my washed out driveway today so just checking in when I need a short rest. I can do short posts on rests but not long ones. So will probably update the game late tonight or tomorrow depending on how beat I am.

Re: OOC II
Makes sense. If it helps, I just did a roll.

Gerolt's Rhetoric is 43, so the question is, with coaching from Eldura and Arngeir, studious writing from the player, Arngeir's tale-telling, Eldura's charm, and the situational modifiers (interesting mixed party, drake head, present well, focus on things the baron himself is interested in), do we reach the +40% mark?

Re: OOC II
Probably, will need to look some sheets over later when I get a chance but I think you should have some good bonuses.
