Xenos backs away from the creature, trying to keep it's attention, but not quite close enough to be in range of it's arms. He'll use the barricades where he can to protect himself.

He'll head south between the middle X and right hand _ then behind the middle ^ and then to the left.

Euripides Nereos

With others believing fire may hold the key, Euripides steps away from the monster. Retreating to the pile of rubble in the northeast corner, he grabs a rock and hurls it at their foe, more to cause a distraction than any real attempt to harm- but if it does hurt the creature, that's good, too!

Ghost-Val

Behind all the actions and dodging of thrown rocks, a misty figure, dark of hair and pretty of face floats into the room though her legs move as though walking.

Not being able to do more than mourn her present state, she hopes at least to get by as 'a friendly spirit looking for redemption' rather than some undead spectre sent to haunt those who abandoned her to her fate.

"What is done is done, now what do I have to do?" she thinks.

Not sure trying to sing any suggestion or blessing will work, I might be received as a grieving banshee. So she watches and looks around, remembering some final advice from Kazeffron to read the notice on the door.

Valkrina Returns

Xenos suggests they simply leave the threat behind and exit through the door, even though there is no door.

Drest backs away and rushes over to grab the torch on the ground nearest him.

Akhilleus does the same thing with the torch Euripides discarded.

Xenos backs away as well, keeping his distance from the flailing arms but still well in range for a thrown attack. One rock misses him completely while the second barely grazes his shoulder before he can jump behind cover again. 2 dam

Euripides runs over to the pile of rocks in the corner and tosses one at the weaponless monster as it too resupplies its rocks at the pile on the eastern side of the room. Though the rock hits it right in the head, it only seems to upset the creature and does no real damage. Drest and Akhilleus charge in with their torches, attempting to burn the thing this time instead. (Attack rolls, please?)

Suddenly, in the middle of all the chaos, the southern door opens again, but this time the ghostly figure who enters is not the sorcerer Kazeffron, but the groups very own Valkrina. Whatever fate befell the first woman seems to be spreading, or perhaps their bard has recently been possessed by the woman now instead? She stops and closes the door, reading the scrawled message carved into the wood that the others simply bypassed. (see private thread, and welcome back, sorta)

Akhilleus, distracted with the mass of flesh in front of him, attacks it with the torch.

Torch [1d20+2]=18+2=20

And we have ignored the text at the entrance. Perhaps that could have given us a clue.

Euripides Nereos

Distracted by the sudden appearance of a very dead Valkrina, the rock Euripides throws at the monster sails high and wide. Oh, hey, Val. Sorry we left you to die. We got kind of busy with this thing.

In his defense, Euripides did not ignore the writing on the door; in fact he pointed it out. He just...couldn't read it.

Xenos uses the barricades for cover as best he can while he watches the effectiveness of fire on the creature.

Do The Opposite?

Xenos stays put behind the safety of the barricade, watching as the ghostly figure of Valkrina slowly enters the room to tell them they should "do the opposite", whatever that means.

Euripides might not be able to read, but his vision is astounding when he somehow spots Valkrina enter the room through darkness, distance, and barricades. His thrown rock flies over the fight, hitting the barricade beyond with a hard thud.

Drest and Akhilleus continue pressing their attack on the walking cadaver, this time applying fire from their torches which seems to do about as much damage to the monster as their swords did......Nothing. The flames applied directly to it don't even singe the things pieced together flesh. The mumbling automaton continues smashing at them with the rocks in his deadly hands, hitting each of them once. 4/5 dam Drest looks very close to toppling over now himself. Is he the next victim destined to join the cadre of ghostly figures walking this underworld dungeon?

Xenos calls out to the others.

"Do the opposite? Well the normal reaction is to attack the creature, so the opposite is to not attack it. Or maybe it's the opposite of what it's doing to us, as it's attacking us then, again, we should not be attacking it. As we can't hurt, what have we got to lose.

He puts away his sword and steps out from behind the barricade and towards the creature.

"I'm not going to hurt you, we just want to pass through this room." he says in a calm tome and holds up his empty hands

Akhilleus

Akhilleus backs up and stops attacking the... thing. He doesn't lower this guard though, but lets Xenos do the talking.

Ghost-Val

Can read the words in the side of the door but not fully understand it all. Do the opposite?

So if I came to a door with that on and it related to the door not who or what was in the room then I would think if my intended action was to open the door but the magic instruction was to do the opposite, but the door is already closed so open/close is out, then maybe the intended Rel trick is that we should lock the door?

Anybody have a key?

She suggests that as an action, but consider following her own wise assumptions, she was herself pierced for her transgressions and bruised for her iniquities.

While we wait for Scott some more, I will remind you all that the note on the door is on the inside of the room you are currently in. It is also scratched into the old wood, as if done in duress. (not painted on a sign or something)

You get the impression that it was done by someone else who faced this same problem at one point, and likely has nothing to do with the door itself.

Euripides Nereos

Do the opposite? What the...wait a second! Suddenly, a lantern goes off over Euripides' head as he gets an idea. This could be brilliant or it could mean he dies next. Either way, it'll be...well, something.

To the astonishment of those watching, the Atlantean calmly walks up to the creature and places a hand on him, muttering divine words of holy power.

You're good you. :D

Doing The Opposite

Drest takes off for the door, a rock thrown at his back just missing his head as it whizzes past him.

Akhilleus backs away as well, catching the next thrown rock with his shoulder that will likely leave some future bruising. 1 dam

Xenos puts some thought into the scratched note, wondering if simple diplomacy is what they're missing. When he addresses the monster from across the room, it ignores his words completely.

The ghostly figure who was once Valkrina floats around by the door, having many thoughts but keeping them to herself for now.

The only follower of Rel in the group seems to be starting to understand what is going on in this strange place. The sneaky cleric moves over to the monster as it rearms itself with 2 more rocks. Euripides reaches out and calmly touches the creature, calling on his powers to heal. As soon as he touches the beast it transforms into a pillar of black oil that subsequently falls to the floor in what appears to be a perfect black rectangle spilled out across the stone at your feet. Looking a bit closer, the rectangle seems to morph into a dark stairway right in front of your eyes. The stairs descend into a dark area below the floor of this room. There is no sound or smell coming from the darkness below.

Akhilleus

"Hm. That's something I couldn't have made. Thanks Euripides. It looks this thing goes even deeper. Get ready for more darkness. By the way, Euripides, get the torch, I need my shield if I'm to walk in the front line..." The warrior then looks behind them. "What? Valkrina? Is that you? How in the nine hells did you...?"
