One More Excursion
Starday, 20th of Goodmonth
Early Morning, Sunny, Warm, Humid

Before the party is more than a few steps into the caves again, things already start to get crazy.

Alordan stops where he is, not allowing anyone past him in the tight passages. But Cu keeps running into the northern tunnel, causing a few members to worry about him getting ahead of the light. When Tlachtga is questioned about it, she tells the others to keep up with her dog so he doesn't get lost, admitting that she forgot all about the light issue.

The politely bossy Andronichishche strains to see what the others have stopped for, assuming that there is a dead kobold in the passage. He urges that the group stay its course before suddenly remembering the light situation himself. He then proceeds to follow the excited hound instead, stopping about 15 feet into that passage while the dog runs on. Once Maag notices what is happening, he follows them both as well.

Not sure what else to do, Caracenus draws his sword and pushes past the druid in the tight confines. He follows the rear members of the party, who have now become the lead members of the party, into the tunnels after Cu, Andron, and Maag. When Andron stops to allow a few stronger members to catch up, Cu disappears ahead into the darkness, quite literally. The animals sniffing and barking noises instantly becomes silent.

After some urging from Gramble, Tlachtga calls for her trusted companion to return to her. The hound does not return, and she hears no reply from the dark tunnel he ran into. Dangerously close to the limits of their light, the group is fortunate to have a source at both ends of the widely stretched party.

Andronichishche

Andronichishche turns about and chases after Cu. He pauses momentarily at the niche where the trapped scroll tube was opened, utterly destroying the minotaur statue that once stood there. After his recent near death experience he allows wisdom to temper his actions and therefore waits for one of the fighter types to catch up. No sooner than Maag and Carucenus arrive does Cu slip beyond the range of his light stone ... the ensuing silence indicates quite clearly the hound was teleported.

Andron utters the most colorful curse he had overheard in the Treehouse Tavern. It's apparent though that he's unaccustomed to such language as he stumbles through the delivery, somewhat lessening its impact. "I was afraid of that happening. He could be literally anywhere in these tunnels now." He shines the light from his pole down both the east and south tunnels. "Mr. Cu ran east, so that suggests Brutus is in Cora's chamber ... or maybe it was his a long time ago. In any case, the treasure room is directly south of here and it would seem no ambush is likely, yet ..... either Mr. Cu finds Brutus and leads him back to us or Brutus heard the commotion." He cocks his head to one side, listening as the others hasten to catch up. "Let's wait for the others, then quickly move to secure the treasure. We may not have much time before Brutus comes to investigate."

Lerrick

After catching up with the others the cleric quickly checks to make sure the glow stone on the bamboo pole she is holding is firmly attached.

Carucenus catches his breath as he looks into the darkness where Cu disappeared. "Yes, I guess he'll end up finding us. Dogs can catch a scent from far away, you know? Even in these intrincated tunnels..." The fighting man recalls his experience being lost in the dark. A shudder runs down his spine. "I hope he's doing well." He'll advance to the front of the formation until his companions catch up and they all get back to recover their original positions.

Maag

Maag raises an eybrow at Andron's profanity and smirks. He too tries to listen for approaching threats but hears nothing.

I rolled 43% on Hear Noise but need 15%

"Dog 'ead will be back. If I 'ad a gold piece for every time a dog found me 'idin' in der dark...I'd still 'ave a lot less dan if der bloody fings just left me alone to nick stuff".

Maag nods in agreement to Alordan's proposal. "Yeah, now dat we are 'ere anyway, we might as well look for der treasure".

The Bull Knows
Starday, 20th of Goodmonth

After a bit of priestly profanity, Andron listens and searches for Cu with his pole light to no avail. Everyone seems pretty sure the dog will show up again eventually. Despite all the deadly acid traps, undead monsters, black holes in the floor, snake pits, cave-ins, unsearched ponds, unusual fungus, kobolds, and minotaurs roaming around, it really is one of the safest places you could ever be lost in the darkness.

Just in case, Gramble pulls out his magical light stone taken from the medusa’s bedroom, before anyone else runs off into the darkness. The consensus is to find the treasure, so the group moves around the tight passages to the spot Andron pointed out on his map. After a thorough search of the walls in that area, a nearly undetectable tiny horizontal slit is found about 4 feet off the floor. The slit in the otherwise solid rock wall is only about 12 inches across.

My curiosity is piqued!

Andronichishche

Andronichishche kneels to more closely examine the almost imperceptible slit. "It would seem the copper ring should slide into it." He twisted his head back to look at Maag. "Mr. Maag, would you please check it for traps?" Recalling the acid trap in the ceiling and Marquees's insanity, he again checks his curiosity for caution. "I suggest we use one of the poles to push the ring in. Make a narrow cut in one end to hold the ring. Might take a couple attempts, but would be safer from a distance."

Andron steps aside into the south tunnel to allow Maag to work and enact the plan, if there is agreement. A sudden thought then seems to occupy him for a moment as he pulls out his map again. After unfolding it, Andron points to the natural rock grotto to the northwest. "If Marquees was responsible for the statue puzzle, the secret door, the acid trap, the rockfall trap, and now this ...". He gestures to the stone wall with the slit. "Obviously these were intended to guard treasure or something else of value. What I find odd is that he simply buried the silver coffer in the grotto. Why not store it here?"

He rolls up the map and proceeds to gesture with it, emphasizing his next thoughts. "Unless ... what he was protecting in the grotto could not be moved? We never did search that pool of water. Well, except for Sir Crestbrook tossing a clod of dirt into it. I'd like to examine it more closely and collect a sample of the water. That may be what must be mixed with the tube of magic powder. When we're finished here, the tunnel directly to the north can lead us back to the grotto. We can also close the secret door from the other side with the hidden lever. I doubt Brutus knows of it."

Lerrick

The cleric turns to Gramble and Andron. I agree with the pond theory. There is not much liquid left in the box after we had tried a few unsuccessful tries in activating it.

Maag

Maag takes his bamboo pole and pokes and prods around the tunnel in the area of the slot. "Nah, der is nuffin' dodgy round 'ere". Then he moves in to inspect the slot more carefully with smaller tools. "Dis looks good too".

"Wot appened to dat disc?"

Andronichishche

"The tiny box contained water with a distinctly salty smell. I don't recall the pond smelling of salt water, which, I believe, was used to preserve the eyes of a maedar in that box. A gift to Marquees from the medusa. It may just be simple spring water, yet conceals another treasure. When we return to the junk room we should search for anything else with writings. Papers, books, notes. He may have left more clues."

Andron looks at Maag with a quizzical expression after the professional risk analyst completes his assessment. "The copper disc? From what I read while unconscious ... I mean, heard ... I ... nevermind. I thought you had picked it up to check for traps? You still have it, yes?"
