Theket watches his brothers getting ready to climb down the rope (he thinks), so he figures he may as well get ready too. After all, they will probably die without him, and then he would probably have to carry their bodies around, which he's not in the mood for, really.

Ull looks around and can tell his brothers are too chicken to go down there first. So, as usual, he sacrifices his own safety to lead them onward and downward. He utters an orcish world reserved for special occasions such as this, and descends down the rope.

Pol will follow Theket down the rope. He doesn't want to be last.

Day 1, between Turns 10 and 11 - The Shaft
Musical Theme: Abseiling Half-Orcs
Ull takes the lead down the rope that took the braving of danger and spilling of blood to recover, soon followed by his brothers Onn, Theket, Pol and Lipput. A ropy slide of some thirty odd feet lands them on the "floor" of the shaft. Here the vertical pipe takes a 90 degree turn upwards and continues onward in the same direction as far as orcish infravision permits sight. This section of the pipe looks much more level than the descending one the brothers traveled trough just before arriving at the top of the shaft.

Ull looks confused.
How you spect we should get it back up there to climb out if we were to take it down?
He will look around for anything that looks lens like.

Theket draws his scimitar,"Should I cut the extra off wit Blacktooth, we mebbe need rope again, an don't need extra here, eh?"
OOC: Is there extra rope? 30' drop and was it a typical 50' coil?

Ull starts laughing before he can even answer...
I say leave it there. If we find we need it, we can always come back for it, right?

Theket exclaims, "But there's 47 extra yards of rope!"

Ull scratches his head and replies...
"Then you have have to tie the knot if we need it all together again. And You better get it right this time. I still remember that tangled mess you done when we lifted those rubies from that monastery.

When Onn gets to the bottom he will scout ahead while the others are busy with the rope. He will will move ahead cautiously looking for any signs of movement. He will move ahead about 50' or until something comes up. Short sword in hand.

Theket looks at his other brothers to see if they don't want him to cut the rope.
If none of them move to stop him or say not too, he will cut the hanging rope at waist level and coil up the 20' of rope and sling it over his shoulder.

It had lain in wait on its dark lair since that time immemorial when it was spawned (several weeks ago) and it was hungry. The little humanoid tasty morsel mere inches in height come into view. He was alone and trudging carefully, its right upper appendage ended the shape of a short, straight spike made of odd silvery brilliance. As a whole the little creature was ugly to behold, but it seemed nourishing. The alien intelligence that inhabited the bloated body gazed upon the creature with its multiple, dark, multi-faceted eyes filled with deep curiosity and lusty appetite, and reacted, launching itself from its hiding place propelled mightily by several stong, arched, hairy limbs as it made its strike...
Could Onn roll a 1d6 to determine surprise please?

Ooc: I typed out the following as the above was being posted, so I'm going with it as simultaneous:
"I dunno Theket... what are we gonna do with a 20 foot rope? Hold on."
Before he can cut the rope, Pol will climb up the rope, detach it, then climb back down the 30 feet. The idiocy of this after all he went to to get the rope so he could climb down this pipe with it eludes him.
Ooc: How many climb checks will I need for the climb back down?
Edited to include my climb walls roll (95):
[1d100] = 30

Onn's surprise roll
Surprise: [1d6] = 3
Onn will scream like a little goblin when he sees the thing (hopefully alerting his brothers)...

Day 1, Turn 11 - The Shaft
Pol climbs the rope up the shaft and releases it from the spike. As it falls down to where his brothers wait he busies himself with yanking the metal shaft off the pipe wall.
Meanwhile, a scouting Onn is in trouble...
Surprise Round
Huge Spider attack: [1d20] = 12, Damage: [1d6] = 1
A huge greenish shape comes bolting out of the left side of the pipe in the direction of Onn. caught completely by surprise only an instinctive reflex saves him; Onn leans as the thing passes by, takes a step back and turns to face it.
When he sees what foe lies on front of him he screams like a little goblin. The sound of his squeal eaves down the pipe an alerts his brothers at the bottom of the shaft, even Pol all the way up it can listen to the startled sound.
A huge greenish spider faces Onn with malicious hungry eyes, mandibles and limbs quivering with anticipation.
Surprise Round Ends
Situation: Pol does not need to declare, he will be busy climbing down the shaft for the next round. Onn is in melee range of the spider. all the other brothers are at the base of the shaft and must run to get to Onn in one round and still make an attack (by charging). They cannot actually see the melee from where they are standing.
Declare actions and make rolls for Round 1

shortsword in hand, Ull will head toward the sound, to assist his brother in whatever trouble he faces.
I dont follow, can Ull still attack this round, normally, or only by officially charging with the pros/cons that it entails?

Theket, already with his magic scimitar in hand from his thwarted attempt to cut the rope, runs in the direction of his brother's girly gobliny shout, ready to chop whatever might be there. He adds a non-girly non-gobliny bellow for good measure as he closes the distance.
Theket's Scimitar, +1 (THAC0 16): to hit [1d20+1] = 13+1 = 14; damage [1d8+4] = 7+4 = 11

Lipput; a bit lost in his thoughts as he climbs down suddenly snaps out of his reverie as the scream from his brother ehcoes out to him. Quickly drawing his longsword and shifting his shield into position; he charges towards the sound of danger; noticing the huge spider and moving right towards it with a wild swing....
Attack roll +2 (STR 17 & Longsword +1):
[1d20+2] = 7+2 = 9 (well....that sucked)
Damage roll:
[1d8+2] = 1+2 = 3 (and....so did that.....)

Ull will not charge. He will cautiously walk toward the battle instead.
He cannot afford the risk of double damage if the spider hits...
