CHAPTER 9: Return to the Tunnels

Ron surveys the three Scavenger bodies inside the pod with more scrutiny. The dead blaster bug and the headless victim of Kurot are fresh and continue to leak body fluids. The burnt corpse has an almost succulent odor about it.

Denslow seems to realize that he has more branchlings on his gripping branches. He tries out the new "fingers". Maybe that's why I felt so clumsy in battle, he muses.

He announces to the others that the way down the tunnel he's checked out appears to be clear. I wonder if they fled.

Kurot confiscates the blaster bug's blaster, then leans out the door, holding the metal rod up. "Come take a look at this," he calls down the hall to Silvestri. "It's...well, I have no idea what it is, and isn't that interesting?"

If it's a lightsaber, I call dibs.

But it's probably not a weapon, or the bug would have used it.

MacMak investigates the floor slime and ponders if it can be collected and utilized. The mutant seagull notices a slight degradation of the color and consistency of the mucus, indicating that it is slowly changing into a different form.

Hoping his new foot coverings work, Silvestri heads over to see what Kurot has found.

Seeing MacMak successfully negotiate the slime, Silvestri traverses the contaminated corridor and enters the hyperpod. Kurot presents the psionist with the two odd devices, suggesting they collaborate and determine their function.

"Interesting. Why don't we start with the blaster, at least we know what it's basic function is"

"Before we do, perhaps I should attempt some self-repairs." Kurot dips into his supply of repair parts and applies them wherever he can find damage.

"Good point, all those who don't need to be here should remove themselves out of the immediate area. Anybody helping that is injured then I will heal them before we start"

Silvestri examines the blaster, with assistance from Kurot, Frank and Ron...

Taking the lead, Silvestri confers with Kurot, Frank and Ron while attempting to understand the blaster weapon. Bruce remains inside the station room and Denslow exits the pod for safety reasons.

After 30 minutes of tinkering, Silvestri has Kurot open the back hatch to the hyperpod, yells a warning to his comrades and fires a discharge from the weapon. A blue, linear blast of electric gas shoots forth from the three metal prongs and impacts against the side of the tunnel over 50ft away!

All three buttons must be depressed to fire the weapon. If only the back button is held, an orange light glows from inside the black translucent handle.



OOC: Silvestri understands the basic operation of the weapon. He may make additional checks to gain more knowledge (any rolls above 19). There is still a chance he could damage and break it while attempting more detailed investigations.

He can teach others to use it if they roll a successful Intelligence check against DC 10.

"Handy, that," says Kurot. "Let me try..."

He runs a self-diagnostic, reaches into his pack for spare parts, and begins effectuating repairs.

Bruce gets Silvestri's attention and attempts to communicate that there is an opening above within the tunnel. Worth a Look?

Bruce signals with his torch to Silvestri and others his intent to scale the hollow tube. They acknowledge his sign, so he proceeds up into the column.

Kurot spends some time repairing the damage from the energy grenade. (5 hit points repaired)

Silvestri marvels at the Scavenger hand blaster, and Ron is receptive to its basic operation.
