Ok, you are going with Washer of the Winds as a title rather than the nickname I was thinking of on first use.

Haha, sorry, yeah, title.

Which post are you linking to with that link? I think we view a different number of posts per page. :)

Okay, never mind, MM! I see the post to which you were linking.

...

Yeah, you told me Washer of the Winds was a take-off of Rincewind (sp?) from Terry Pratchett? That was an awesome post, and yeah, I appropriated it as a title for "village hedge-wizard" in this game world.

Ugh, I got like two hours of sleep last night and am dragging. Not sure I'm going to make it through the day. Please puppet Cadmus as needed.

No need, in retrospect. I am a bit slammed with getting back to work after the holidays. Off to update IC.

Okay, there's been a majority vote (two counts as a majority in a group of four---first past the post) for assaulting the bandits.

Let me know (IC preferably, OOC if conditionals or some other reason renders an IC post not all that feasible) what other questions (if any) you guys have about the bandits. I know it's been a while since there's been some action, so I'm kinda wanting to leave it up to y'all how much talking there is before the stabbing and stuff.

For reference, back when the party was in Caius' Place:

"Exactly seventeen and one half miles northwest of here, sir. The path lies through grasslands and then light forest, primarily deciduous, mixed with rocky outcroppings and rolling hills. Their lair is no wise concealed or secret. They make their home in a ruinous castlet of grey stone which is much overgrown by vines."

That was a loon's response to Tacitus' question about where the bandits were.

Fort Pertinax, where the PCs currently are, is exactly 20 miles due north of Caius' Place.

Okay, there's talk of buying oil and grappling hooks? Please post what y'all are buying. I've got some free time tonight to move things forward, but since these are actual game resources presumably pertinent to the intended task at hand, I'd like to now how much and how many before proceeding.

Please assume that, within reason, the peddler has what y'all would want to buy at book prices. "Within reason" meaning that he is a peddler peddling to small, isolated communities out in BFE, so he's not going to be toting around lances or suits of plate armor---stuff like that.

How much flaming oil has he got?

I figured two lengths of rope and two grappling hooks (unless we have those already), and then we just see how much flaming oil he can sell us.

I agree to Wyzard's proposal. About what time would it be when we're done with the peddler? If it is top late to make it to the band lair in the remainder of the day Cadmus is going to pray for different spells (2 CLW and a Hold Person).

I don't know, 30 minutes transacting with the peddler? Too late to safely make the journey considering it's already late afternoon/early evening.

Thanks for letting me know on the spells---you'll record on the wiki, please?

Let's say he has at least 20 flasks of lamp oil plus 1d10 more.

Lamp Oil: 1d10+20 22

There you go. Twenty-two flasks of lamp oil to be had.

God-damn, it's not real D&D until you're rolling dice to find out how much lamp oil a peddler can sell you! Awesome stuff.

Someone please indicate to me when the lamp oil, rope, grappling hooks have been purchased & recorded on the wiki.

Please let me know if there are any more questions or anything, anything I've overlooked, any other info y'all're looking for, etc. I'm gonna wait a little bit to see if MM and Vek have anything they need/want/whatever to add, then hopefully move ahead with another post this evening.

JS, stupid question, but can clerics throw oil as a weapon? Like, I'd assume they can, but I want to make sure of it.

They can in my games, anyway. So can magic-users.

EDIT: And not a stupid question.

We started with rope, so I don't think I'll buy any more rope. I will purchase 6 flasks of oil (12 gp) and a grappling hook (what does one cost, anyways? It's not on my chart.).

How many trail rations does the merchant have? I might as well stock up on those, too.

I think we should buy all the oil, a lantern and as many trail rations as he has.

Let's say 21 weeks. That's 21 man-weeks, not 21 weeks for four people.

Grappling Hook costs 25 gp. Let's say he has seven, in case that becomes a question. Don't believe that cost is in the Basic rulebook.

***

Just a respectful reminder to all (not any player in particular) that I'll need to know exactly who has what. If y'all are going to be climbing stuff, it's going to be pretty important for me to know who has what. :)

Okay, Alfius bought 6 oil, 1 grappling hook, and 6 weeks of iron rations.
