Bragar- This is insane, we need to stay together and act together or Strahd or has already beaten us. We might as well lay down here and wait for him to kill us. I am with Fendt, He follows Fendt.

Date: Nouluna 6, 1221
Time: 3:48 AM
Weather: Light rain
Moon: Waning gibbous
Location: Castle Ravenloft, Courtyard
**************************************

Agrippo, Tumbler, and Melampus somehow manage to reach the gate ahead of the rats. Fendt, despite their shouts, has not opened the portcullis, so Melampus lifts it. Agrippo and Tumbler pass through and Malampus follows, dropping the portcullis behind him. Agrippo gives you the bad news: Tibbius is dead, killed by Helga.

You quickly discuss your next move as rats stream through the portcullis. Agrippo skewers six rats. Castran urges going back to recover Tibbius's body and belongings. Iluq smashes a rat. Melampus yells that you need to go. More rats scurry through the gate. Sharp words are exchanged. Agrippo is bitten by three rats (-6 HP). Robert tries to decide whether to try to talk with the rats or fight them. Fendt runs from the rats, taking off for the castle gates. Castran drinks a potion of invisibility (mark it off, please). As he is drinking, a rat bites him (-3 HP). Robert heads off with Fendt. Castran climbs the portcullis to get out of the rat race. Bragar, Melampus, and Tumbler follow Fendt and Robert.

The current situation: Agrippo and Iluq are on the west side of the gate fighting rats. Castran is invisible and climbing up the portcullis. Fendt, Melampus, Tumbler, Bragar, and Robert are about halfway between the courtyard gate and the castle gate, running for the exit.

Actions?
I made some adjustments and assumptions re: your moves, given that people were talking about going through (or even climbing) the portcullis, but no one was actually opening it. Rats were able to attack any character who did not run for the gates. Even giant rats are small, so eight of them can attack a single man-sized person per round.

The rule that fighters get one attack per level vs. creatures of less than 1 HD is in play.

Animal Friendship wouldn't work well in this situation. It keeps only one animal calm, assuming it fails its saving throw, during the spell's one-hour casting time.

Initiative: Party [1d6] = 3 Monsters [1d6] = 2
Rats v. Agrippo: [8d20s13] = 3

Agrippo v. Rats: [3d20s6] = 2
Rats v. Iluq: [8d20s19] = 0
Rats v. Castran: [8d20s20] = 1

Bragar do we want to return and help those 2 escape? I have a spell that will help them destroy them rats. We do not need to lose anymore party members. He turns and heads back towards the porticullis.

Fendt happens to turn back and notices there are some still back fighting rats... "Guess we are not out of it yet folks. Best go finish off the rats before we abandon this place." Fendt will attempt to cast Strength on Tumbler. Unless Tumbler is out of his range then he will cast in upon himself. Strength Spell [1d4] = 3 MU & Monk [1d6] = 6 thief & Cleric [1d8] = 5 Fighter

Tumbler is with the group that is away from the rat combat, and hasn't indicated that he wants to go back and fight rats. Are you sure you want to cast Strength on Tumbler?

most beneficial would be him but the spell max is 18 so on myself is fine as I noted in my ooc above.

Robert cast Summon insect and targets the rat swarm. OOC - If that isn't possible I'll use Scimitar and shield to attack them to help out.

Summon Insects has a target of one creature. Robert could swarm one rat. I assume he'd rather use the scimitar?

Your choice; just tell me who. But I'd prefer if you'd declare a target then roll a strength increase for just that target. Rolling for all possible targets makes it look like you rolled first then chose a target that would benefit the most.

Robert just goes Scimitar and Shield then.

That was my intent if I could not target the swarm.

I was trying to prevent having to make a macro for each type but that is fine I select Fendt as the target and will roll now is it roll for F or MU since I am both?

Iluq lets out another roar of pain and anguish, swinging wildly at the scurrying creatures.

Dual +1 Hammer attack: To Hit [1d20+1] = 15+1 = 16, [1d20+1] = 16+1 = 17; damage [1d4+2] = 2+2 = 4 (+1v.L), [1d4+2] = 2+2 = 4 (+1v.L)

As he crushes and bashes rats away from him he screams out, his voice raw, tears streaming down his dark face, his eyes are full of rage, "HELGA!!! GET YOUR UNDEAD SELF OUT HERE AND PAY FOR YOUR ACTIONS! I WILL AVENGE MY FRIENDS!!"

Date: Nouluna 6, 1221
Time: 3:49 AM - Combat Round 2
Weather: Light rain
Moon: Waning gibbous
Location: Castle Ravenloft, Courtyard
**************************************

Bragar, Robert, and Melampus, who had just spent a minute running away from the melee, rush back to help Agrippo and Iluq. Halfway to the portcullis, they encounter a host of rats that had been pursuing. Bragar smashes a rat. Robert slices another. Each receives multiple bites (Robert: -8 HP; Bragar: -4 HP).

Fendt remains behind and begins casting.

Meanwhile, near the portcullis, Iluq smashes two more rats. Though he is surrounded by several rats, none of them are able to bite him. Castran continues to hang from the portcullis, the light from his sword concealed in its scabbard. His shining axe lies on the ground.

Then all hell breaks loose.

Robert hears a firm command spoken in Melampus's voice: "SLEEP!" The druid yawns, lies down in the middle of the rats, and immediately starts to snore.

Fendt is barely into his spell when he feels Tumbler's dagger in his back (-7 HP). Fendt's concentration is broken.

Agrippo lunges again. But instead of adding more rats to his rat-kebab, he thrusts his spear twice towards Iluq! Perhaps the warrior's conscience is not completely overwhelmed, for his strikes bounce harmlessly off the cleric's armor.

Things look dire for our heroes. Not only are they surrounded by surprisingly dangerous rats, but some of the adventurers have turned against the others!

We are now in PvP mode. Everyone, please send me your next moves via PM. If you want to talk to each other (e.g., to coordinate strategy), post that here—everyone can hear what everyone else says, but no one will know next round's actions until I post them.

Locations: Agrippo, Iluq, and Castran are by the portcullis. Melampus, Bragar, and Robert (sleeping) are about 45' away from the portcullis. Tumbler and Fendt are about 45' further away from the second group (i.e., 90' from the portcullis).
Status: Agrippo: 26/52, Tumbler: 24/39, Robert: 8/34 (asleep), Fendt: 7/15, Melampus: 16/21, Bragar: 27/42, Iluq: 13/34, Castran: 10/23 (invisible)
Effects: Invisibility (Castran)
