It takes some careful maneuvering, but the adventurers finally put themselves into position, taking shelter behind a relatively thick copse of trees just within range of the nearest group of orcs.
There is a rough map here on Google Drive you guys can fiddle with: https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/1A1o ... sp=sharing

The magic user should get this one. That way we still have one sleep spell apiece.

Agreed, also it'll be quieter and we want as much surprise as possible. Wonder if any of these orcs are from the island garrison?

Rhys rather thinks these are the same orcs -- or some of them, at least -- from the island garrison.

Quint Kacie
With the orcs now within range of his spell, Quint watches until he's satisfied they're close enough to each other and then casts Sleep upon the group of them.

Tev Meren, Fighter

Upon seeing Quint cast his spell, Tev motions to his comrades to move forward stealthfully so as to not yet attract the attention of the other orcs. If the spell doesn't fell all of the target group, he's still hoping to be able to sneak up on the remaining orcs and end the fight quickly.

Quint casts his spell. Such enchantments are impossible to cast in a discriminatory manner, however, and four humans and four orcs collapse to the ground, insensate. The other two -- an orc and a human -- do not immediately comprehend what has occurred, and both blink stupidly at their sleeping comrades.
The spell affected 8 HD, I rolled randomly to determine who was affected. Four of each were caught in the spell's radius. The awake orc (and human, for that matter) are surprised for one round.

Rhys releases a regular arrow at the same orc.

Severi approaches the standing orc with his sword bared, with the intention of gutting it where it stands.

Tev Meren, Fighter

Tev's already in motion, running stealthfully to end the orc's life.

OOC: You sure you don't want to keep invisibility? There's hopefully enough of us to take down the orc in a surprise round.

Ah, crap! Sorry. Like I said, I'm unsuccessfully fighting off a flu bug and not at all in the right at the moment. Yeah, no arrow fired from Rhys' bow...

Quint Kacie
As his companions rush forward to deal with the lone remianing orc, or slay his companions, Quint focuses on the sleeping laborers, re-waking them.

Surprise Round

Thurgan steps out from behind the cluster of trees and looses a bolt that arcs through the air, burying itself deeply in the remaining orc's belly. The creature grunts in pain and stares about wildly, trying to determine where his attacker is. Although the sun is not bright, and the forest here provides some shade, it is obvious that these are creatures bred for a near dark, subterranean existence, and their eyesight is badly hampered in daytime.

The rest of the companions begin to rush forward, able to close over half the distance before the orc is able to react.

Round One

Thurgan looses another bolt, but it flies wide of the target. The lone remaining captive scoops up an axe that has fallen to the ground, and swings mightily at the orc's head, but misses as the orc begins to beat a hasty retreat. We're under attack! it calls, just before Severi's swordstroke parts head from neck.

Severi Silvertongue, Elf

"Wake your friends," Severi orders the woodcutter. "They only sleep, but might require a smack about the jowls to awaken. Follow in our footsteps, and keep your axes to hand. We aim to slay these Orcs down to the last one, but you can help by freeing your fellows as we go along."

Thurgan, dwarf

"Enough time for shooting" Thurgan says putting aside his crossbow and getting ready to fight with his sword and shield. "Let's slay these sleeping orcs fast then kill the others".

The three visible groups of orcs look around wildly at the alarm. There is a moment of confusion that the adventurers no doubt can take advantage of.
Refer to the map. At this point, only the orcs that have cover are not alerted. The sleeping orcs can be dispatched by the captives. Note that (rolling on phone) 3 of the freed captives are willing to fight. They count as unarmed normal men, armed with weapons that do 1d6 damage. Someone should direct their actions.

To clarify, y'all have the equivalent of a surprise round. I don't have time to change the map now, but you all are in the same square as the southernmost orcs. Refer to the map for distances! One square equals 20'.

Invisible Rhys

"It will be best if we all focus on the same group, preferably the group with the largest orcs, since they seem to be the leaders..."

Invisible Rhys slips off to the side to avoid being hit by any ranged attacks at the group of larger orcs while attempting to flank them so he can get an attack at the largest one from behind.
I believe one of the groups had more of the larger orcs in it, anyway. If my memory is off, then I'll adjust accordingly.
